  1. Hi, was wondering what the Badger equivalent is of the Paasche H external mix single action airbrush. Donn yost recommends the paasche H, but the Michaels store here only carries badger airbrushes. Was wondering what the Badger equivelent would be to the Paasche?. also what'ss the better airbrush the Paasche H or the badger ?
  2. hi, just trying to get a grip on the different levels (grits) of sandpapers. What grit levels should the model car builder be concerened with for polishing out etc. I went to ace hardware and the finest grit they had was 1500. I just called autozone and they told me that 2000 was the finest they sold. is there a reference chart or something that shows the various grits etc. what is the finest grit available. thx, john
  3. I layed down a coat of clear on a 69 GTO i'm doing. I guess it was a little to thick or I put on too much and have some minor orange peeling, especially on the hood and trunk - How should I handle it to smooth it out?? Otherwise it came out pretty nice. I should have thinned it a bit more when i airbrushed it. oh well. Thanks! john
  4. Beautiful Build!
  5. I'm glad other builders feel the same way - Perfectionism is a double edge sword. Envy is a bad one too - i'm always looking at other builders and their work in total amazement, then I look at my work and say "it'll never be that good". There are some amazing builders here for sure - just glad to be a part of it all -
  6. Well maybe not torment, that's a bit harsh, but you get what i mean. This is true especially if you're the OCD type. I guess it's true with any hobby, but there is certainly a break point where perfection can take the fun out of building. The trick is to pull yourself back and remember it's never going to be perfect (is it??) john
  7. I figured that - its my third build and i learn about another technique after each build - the check list gets longer and longer. Mike what's a "PE" saw?? also wouild it help if i draw pencil lines in? thx, john
  8. Are they any good techniques for safely deepening panel lines after paint has been applied. I haven't clear coated yet.
  9. artful - is it too late to do that? i haven't cleared yet. what do you use to scribe them? john
  10. OK still playing around with painting the raised letters on these tires. I'm trying a few different methods that look promising. at first i was using enamel paint and was told not to as it never fully dries and gets tacky. so i started messing with acrylic paint, but i find taking off the acrylic paint after an error is harder than removing enamel based paint from tires with thinner - what is the best acrylic paint remover?? i have been using windex but its not the best - is there something that exists that takes it right off with little effort?? loving this hobby! thx, john
  11. yeah not bad cobra! thx!
  12. ok casey - i didn't know that - thx for the tip for sure buddy. yes mineral spirits takes it right off and you know what they are still tacky from last night! john
  13. no casey - i find that the enamel works better for some reason - it's thicker and a bit easier to control
  14. Thanks hemi i will, i wasn't sure if it was correct to highlight the steel belted radial part, but now i will.
  15. I don't think i could physically paint any smaller - on these particular tires the letters were very small - painted them with a pinhead and a glass of wine!! They didn't come out that great, but i'm leaving them alone. Should I paint the "Steel belted Radial" part also???
  16. This is my third build. My plan was to paint the badge after painting and clearcoating, but the badge was slowly disappearing under the layers. I have not clear coated yet. I exposed the GTO badges on either side by masking it off and then slowly sanding away the paint to expose the badge. In retrospect i wish I had foiled underneath. I'm going to keep this badge white for this build, but now I know how to handle the badges for future builds (i Think!)
  17. Thanks Jon and Ray. That's what i shall do then - learning tons here - thanks!! john
  18. Hi, I'm getting ready to clearcoat a GTO i'm building and just wanted to know if I should paint the details such as the amber side lights etc before or after I clear - or does it matter?? thx
  19. Beautiful!!! I want one!
  20. agreed donn! thats why i'm putting of clearing this GTO until i have enamel clear coat - i just might have to order it on-line. by the way is enamel clearcoat poly urethane??
