  1. flat colors are easier to apply - i do agree. that truck is bad ass!! what do you do for touch ups' though? for instance if you are masking and then remove the tape and need to hit a very small area with a brush, it will be flat and it wont look right against gloss. maybe i'm reading into to much. maybe i will try it that way. by the way, do you airbrush or use cans?? great info - Thanks!!
  2. Hi, sorry if this was discussed here before, but i was wondering if there was anyway to make a testors enamel matte finish paint to a gloss finish? The first thing that comes to mind is to add a gloss enamel clear coat to the matte paint, but im just not sure if that would work. Any ideas?? Thank-you for a great forum! John
  3. hi, i notice mobius and revell both have website displaying their model car kits, new releases etc. does MPC and monogram have websites? cant find anything. thx, john
  4. Hi, I've started an amt 1949 Mercury Club coupe and notice there is no numbers next to the part that points to a color on a "paint key" or chart. Other than the stock upholstery color that could be chosen in 1949 for the seats and the body color, there is no color suggestions for the engine, under carriage, mufflers etc etc. I don't think i'm missing any paper work. has any one built this model and noticed this?? is this common?? What to do? Should I just wing it. I really like sticking with the actual stock colors that came with the car. Any suggestions?? Thanks, John
  5. Absolutely stunning!! Beautiful build and presentation. Could you give us some details on the paint?? Enamel, acrylic, lacquer etc?? Amazing!
  6. ok i think i understand. So basically an "acrylic enamel" or "acrylic lacquer" paint is still basically an enamel and a lacquer paint. So only when a paint is a pure acrylic and the enamel or lacquer designation is not attached to it, can it be safe to assume its water or alcohol clean-up.
  7. can someone explain what the difference is between Acrylic, acrylic enamel and acrylic lacquer? Are they all water based, can they all be thinned and cleaned with water? I always thought enamel meant "oil based" and lacquer meant "lacquer based?
  8. im getting ready to do my first acrylic paint build, using testors acrylic. can i use minwax acrylic poly as the clear?? is anyone using this?? i want something that is easily accessible. Thanks, john
  9. I asked about pure acrylic, like testors Aztek or Model masters etc. etc. Water clean up.
  10. Wow really nice!! is there a clear coat on those?? Thanks for posting. beautiful builds!!
  11. Would love to see some hobbiests acrylic painted models. Up to now i've only used enamels when painting my models. Some how in my mind you just won't get the same results with acrylic vs. enamels paint. Would love to see some nice acrylic builds to compare. I love the idea of water clean up!! Thanks! john
  12. Thanks sid!! excatly the type of thing im looking for. ill check out the videro. john
  13. nice builds!! im going to check it out tomorrow. i have a dollar tree close by. thanks!
  14. Hi, i was wondering if anyone makes water slide decals for 1/25th scale models. i'm currently finishing up a 69 pontiac gto judge and sanded down the raised GTO lettering on both sides near the doors. The reason i did this was because i remember donn yost mentioning that it was too small to BMF and that slide decals were available for these type of details. I forgot who he mentioned sold this type of thing. does anyone know?? thanks in advance. john
  15. hi cato, basically thats what i;m doing now. would like something a bit thinner than the dollar store alumi foil.
  16. Hmmm interesting. HVAC tape would seem pretty thick to me though. can you post a pic of a model you did with it??
  17. Wondering if anyone has stumbled across some real good BMF replacements that are cheap and easily accessable?? right now i'm using the dollar store tin foil and while it works well, i wish there was something thinner and easier to work with.
  18. Beautiful build. Its hard to tell the difference from the real and the 1/25th. Nice job! john
  19. great info everyone - thanks, ill be trying these tips soon. for awhile anyway i'll be sticking to cars that have chrome seperating the two colors, such as the edsel and 57 chev among others. Should i just bring the tape (and paint) onto the raised "chrome" area. If it bleeds a bit, so what right?? It'll get covered with BMF anyway?? Is this correct?
  20. sounds easier said than done! Plain ole masking tape?
  21. Ok this might be an obvious question, but how do you modelers two tone a model car?? a good example would be the 57 chevy. up until now i've only painted cars one color - would like to try a ford edsel or 57 chev, but really not sure how to go about it. john
  22. thanks im glad i held back -
  23. Can i use testors wet look lacquer over enamel paint??
  24. Trucking Sweet! Beautiful job!
