  1. Got my 70 1/2 Camaro in the mail earlier....Amazingly packed by Hobby Lobby...lol...pic is after opening box and removing packing slip...not packing at all
  2. Looks good so far....I plan on replicating my 1:1 71 Camaro...and plan to detail it also...will be watching how this one comes out.... Which kit is this?
  3. yeah. think i will leave them like they are, just for that reason.
  4. thanks guys..it looks better in person...my camera isn't the greatest at snapping models...no macro setting (or I haven't been able to find it lol)
  5. I installed the center 3 and realized they were backwards, but liked the look of the point, so just went with it....I have thought about reversing them and see how it looks, but will leave it as is for now.
  6. Yeah I thought about laying some flat clear over this one...but the flat clear I had wasn't any good....and didn't feel like buying anymore lol. Before clearing the body, it had a satin finish, and looked amazing....I may find me another kit and do it in satin...but I am just glad to get this build done...been planning it for about 6 months. Now I plan on cloning my 1:1 vehicle...thanks again for the compliments guys
  7. thanks...it was interesting for sure lol
  8. Got this rig finished up just a few minutes ago...check it out in the Underglass section...thanks for the comments and suggestions http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=67362
  9. Here is my finished big rig...It is the Revell Kenworth W900 Snap kit with some custom touches. I made the front just a little lower, by notching the spring mount. Everything else is stock underneath. I made the exhaust stacks from a plastic coat hanger. They had the perfect bend already, and are twice the size of what the kit came with. I was going for the stealth look, and had planned on doing black with dark grey accents...but ended up going with flat black accents. All the original chrome pieces were painted with auto trim black paint. They have a black chrome look, but hard to see it in pics. I decide to change things up with the engine...now I know its not CAT yellow lol, but this is a custom built truck from the factory, and the driver wanted an red/orange engine. The interior is a dark grey with red accents. Installed a white steering wheel and shift knob for some contrast. I decide to leave the mirrors, headlights, cab lights and horns chrome, to give a little depth to the truck, just so its not all black. Everything is snapped together, other than the glass. I planned on putting the diesel fuel only and numbers decals on, but like the look without them. I might add the later on, or make some custom ones. Thanks for checking out my first big rig build. The only thign I have a problem with is the hood doesnt fit tight against the base of the windshield...but it will probably be displayed with hood open anyways You can check out the build up here http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=67082
  10. Yeah i was thinking about sending them to the purple pond...but the trim paint stuck pretty good....I was wanting to scrape some off and have a little chrome showing, but the paint etched into the chrome...so only bare plastic is what i got...so had to shoot a quick coat and just go all black. they seem to have a black chrome look to them, which was unplanned lol... Here are a few pics of the chassis together...getting everything ready to install the body...will have those pics up ASAP
  11. Here are pics of everything painted....going to start assembly later tonight....I ended up having to us auto trim paint on he chrome pieces...the other paint wouldn't stick to it. It adds a little realism to the pieces and a unique finish.
  12. Got all the flat black sprayed, just waiting for it to dry and I will get some pics...I had to change direction on this, because i ran out of black, so therefor couldn't make the dark grey I wanted. But it turned out to be ok...think the flat black looks better. Will get pics up ASAP
  13. Very sharp build....looks amazing
  14. I have always waned to drive a truck, and if I did I wanted a solid black one....You see the ones that are extreme chromed out, but i don't think I have ever seen one in person that was all black. Just gives the truck more attitude being black....hoping to get more done tonight and tomorrow...thanks again
  15. Thanks...Here is a few of the body after clear has dried....I will be trying to find some more paint to finish this build with...like I said, everything else may go flat black....but will post pics of progress as it happens...thanks again
  16. Been busy, but finally got some time to work ok this truck. I got the body/hood painted black and got the clear drying now. I had planned on painting the grille, bumper, tanks gloss black as well, but ran out of black paint. I had also planned on painting the stacks, frame and wheels a dark grey gloss....but with no black, I cant make the grey I had planned out lol. I am going to try and find some flat black and spray everything else, and go from there. Not exactly what I wanted, but I want to get this finished soon. Will get pics up as soon as clear dries.
  17. I was thinking they were going to be from a kit like that...there is no wheel-back to these, they slip right onto the axle. i just haven't seen any this detailed in any kits I have bought .....figured they were made back when they put alot of detail in kits lol
  18. I got these awhile back in a lot of parts....They have the center caps and valve stems on them, and don't seem to have been painted, but not sure...I have hung on to them for a future build, but was wondering if anyone knew what kit they were from originally...all the other parts I got were older parts 60s 70s and 80s....just thought Id see if anyone here might know...thanks
  19. Just picked this up from Hobby Lobby today....also got a 70 1/2 Camaro Z28 kit ordered and should be here end of the week...
  20. thanks..they turned out alot better than I was expecting lol....the coat hanger trick is awesome...they have the perfect bends...although this one isnt perfectly round...but just adds character tot he truck lol. More to come soon...thanks
  21. Well finally got the stacks worked down to the size I liked. They are about 4 1/2" tall and are just above the cab. Had to make some brackets to mount them with, luckily the styrene rod I had was the perfect size to fit the holes in the truck. Made some V pieces and added the round styrene...Will be basically like the original design. Should look good once painted. Should I paint them body color, or paint them however I do the exhaust?
  22. What exactly would 13'6" be in scale? I think i will cut them down so they are about 8mm (8" in 1:1 scale) above the cab..keep them kind of short. Will try and get them cut down sometime this evening....hoping to get this thing painted asap...thanks for the comments and suggestions guys.
  23. Got some work done on the stacks tonight....think I have the look I am going with, just need to figure out how high they should be...They will be cut down shorter than the pic, but not sure how much....was thinking about an inch above the truck...any ideas or suggestions? The coat hanger is quite a bit bigger than the stock stacks, so kind of had to piece it together underneath, but not many people will see under it lol. By the time I install the tanks and steps, it should cover any eye sores
  24. that is the look I was wanting, but don't think i have the skills to pull it off lol. Mine will be pretty much stock height, about 2 mm lower in front. I LOVE the look of yours....and thanks for the pic
  25. I am going to try the coat hanger first...I would like to keep the original stacks for another project. I and guessing since the coat hanger is plastic i can just glue everything together like I would with the original stuff? I plan on making bracket that will fit the holes in the truck already...so I don't have to fill anything in lol. Wont get much done today, am watching my 2 year old niece for the afternoon...but will update as soon as something is done. thanks for the ideas.
