  1. Brett, that is classy. I love that there is NO side trim cluttering up its lines. Beautiful!
  2. Mike,I thought about that after I posted,I don't believe they did,now it seems odd that they DIDN'T though!
  3. Seems odd that they left out 1/16 in the car pic..neat picture though.
  4. Not a Camaro fan,but as someone said previously,I'd be tempted to steal this one!
  5. That's a good start.Nice details too-the color-matched wheels, painted door handles, blacked out grill, lettered tires,etc..things that more experienced builders often overlook or don't think about. And the best part-she stuck with it and finished it! I've wondered about using the pre-painted fake nails/stickers for seat inserts, just haven't tried it yet. Might want to re-think the title though...
  6. I didn't have pics before, but I'm talking more about the ENTIRE window opening being off-kilter...here is a pic of both quarter Windows. I wasn't sure if the cars were identical enough that they would have worked off the same basic molds. If anyone has the Monte Carlo and could verify for me that would be great. Thanks!
  7. I know the Monogram GNX has a drivers side quarter window that needs to be reshaped. Anyone know if the Monte Carlo suffers the same problem?
  8. I just started one a few days ago. Here's some photos that show some of the "more important" parts. I did a partial engine mock-up so you could get a better idea of how it looks. Only about 150 parts, but the fit and quality seems to be excellent. A lot of it actually screws together, but the screws seem to be in out of the way places that won't show when finished.I haven't done too much for cleanup of parts yet so what you see is "off the tree" with various primers. I haven't personally seen the Revell 1/12 Mustang, but from what I've heard about it,I would say this is very similar in fit and finish to that kit. I won mine a couple weeks ago for about $150 shipped from France to US.It's just the stock version,no body kit. For that price,I think it's worth it. I wouldn't pay much more than that though, definately not $300-$600 that I've seen it listed for. Hope this helps and if you have any more questions or want more pics, let me know. I may start a WIP on this one...
  9. Super build and great colors, only thing I'm not sure of is the door handles on the wrong side of the suicide doors?
  10. Nice job! You chose a car that's not all that different from an airplane though, as it did spend a lot of time in the air!
  11. Forum rules-No Selling Allowed! But,I'll send you my trade list. Nice work. Sometimes we need a reminder that they don't need to take weeks or months(or years!) to build and be fully and correctly detailed to look "just right". This looks just right...in fact, without realizing it, I found myself wondering what the story was-Does he have a baby on the way? Or does he need the money to finish the '65 Vette in the garage? Two thumbs up!
  12. Buick used elephants in advertising in the '60's(?),I guess to symbolize their cars were big and powerful. "Elephant ears" were bumper guards that went on the outer corners of the bumpers and looked like...yep,you guessed it.
  13. These are from Otaki's 1/12 Mercedes 450
  14. How is the quality of Academy's kits? I've heard good and bad,but it's been mostly secondhand(so and so said). Are they from Tamiya's tooling like what Testor's did with Fujimi and Italeri?
  15. If you don't mind a little work, try using the inside buttons from a remote control. There a a lot of different ones, but these are pretty common. They look pretty good with a little detailing...and you can usually find someone that has an old broken remote.
  16. A lot of nice touches to really bring out the best in this kit, awesome job...but,is it just me or are the valve cover decals on backwards?
  17. I have a Roland Camm-1 plotter/cutter that I use on a regular basis for business signs, race car graphics,etc.. I have used it with great results for making paint masks/templates,but as thin and well-conforming as the vinyl is,it is still too thick to be used for actual graphics.Any lettering under 1/4 inch is tricky and when you get into any sharp angles at that size the "points" leave a little to be desired. Also, you will run into adhesion problems and color fade over time. Not to mention the dreaded "shrinkage" problem.Vinyl is affected by temperature changes also,so it shrinks and retracts,I'm sure you have all seen this happen on bumper stickers. The finish would not be very durable either as the vinyl scratches very easily. It really wouldn't be any different than the stickers in a snap kit. Here's a couple pics that may show what I mean. The scallops are about 4"x3/4" to give you an idea of size here. As you can see,the accuracy is very good, but in the 3rd pic,I think you should be able to actually SEE the thickness.Works great for making custom masks for painting like these, but I wouldn't use them directly on something in this small of a scale.
  18. Thanks for moving this..sorry,thought about it right after I posted. So I've isolated it to the tires, the actual plastic parts seem fine.I'll try some more and update results.Hopefully it will help someone else. Thanks George.
  19. I'm sure some of you have had to deal with this problem before and any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I recently received a kit that had been water damaged and it had a real bad musty smell. I thought it was just the box and got rid of it promptly. No luck. After de-chroming some of the parts in bleach and then a good soak/scrubbing in Simple Green, the odor is still VERY present. It's an older Protar kit that is not easily replaced,so I would like to salvage this if possible. I'm going to try to get a few parts in primer today in hopes that maybe this will "seal" it...?? Open to suggestions, please and thank you...
  20. Just got this today, been looking for a reasonably priced builder for awhile and picked this up for less than $20, shipped. The body was heavily brush painted, but it's complete, the glass is excellent, and none of the detail is worn off.
  21. Great job.Looks nice. I'm working on one as motivation to start an Otaki 1/12 450 SLC. It was supposed to be a quick out of box build, but it's such a nice kit, (especially for being 25-30 years old!) and somewhat on the rare side,so I want to take the time to do it right. Nice job on the headrests, that is a huge improvement!
  22. Nice, gotta have tunes! This is my music box while I'm slinging putty... It's got a 5 1/4" midbass, two 2 3/4" midrange and two 3/4" soft dome tweeters. It's powered by a 25 watt 2.1 computer speaker amp with a mp3 plug-in. I'm in the process of mounting the power and volume knobs in the top outermost holes, while the tweeters go in the center two. When it is done it will be a self contained portable music box.
  23. I don't have this but remember seeing it on Ebay awhile back and yes,Toyota did rebadge and sell these overseas.
  24. Here's a '72 Thunderbird pro-street.It was about 75% finished until a recent move ended with the chassis crushed beyond repair...but there was a few things I would have liked to do differently,so here's my chance.
