  1. I think that Jairus is making a point...
  2. Are we looking at next issue's "Editor's Corner" here?
  3. There's no real good answer to that, because most manufacturers have released their share of good and bad kits over the years. To say Brand "A" is "better" than Brand "B" would be an extreme oversimplification. If I can make one very general remark, I'd say that overall, over the years, Japanese kits have been generally better designed (crisper molding, better engraving, more precise parts fit, etc.) than American brand kits...but that's not always the case! Also, be aware that many Japanese kits are/were issued as "curbsides", meaning no opening hood and no engine! See how trying to make a blanket statement as to which brand is "better" than another can get messy? If you're looking to build a model of a specific car, for example, your best bet would be to ask about that specific car/kit here on the forum. Who makes the best model of a (insert car here)? Who's kit has the best detail? Who's built that model and has any insights?, etc. You'll get more useful information asking specific questions like that rather than a generic "Which brand is best" type of question.
  4. Don't forget "Gopher" from "The Love Boat"... And "Buffalo" Bill Cody...
  5. I thought Insight Communications and Comcast were one and the same. Oh well, no matter.
  6. According to wikipedia, all VW emblems and markings were removed from the Herbie cars to avoid any trademark issues. Odd, because actual Beetles were placed in theater lobbies or out in front of the theaters for some of the movie premiers. The cars were not provided by VW, however, but by local dealers.
  7. Well, by that logic the greatest model-car related album ever has to be "Exile on Main Street"!
  8. Biscuitbuilder, is that you?
  9. Cover the area of the model you want to be decaled with masking tape and use a fine tip marker to draw where the edges of the decal area are. Then take off the tape, put it onto a sheet of paper, and cut out the paper template. Finally, put your tape/paper template over the decal sheet and trim out the area of decal you need... but allow a bit of extra margin because you won't be able to place the decal on the model exactly. It's better to have a piece slightly larger than the area you want covered... just like when your foiling.
  10. ebay is about as safe and reputable an aution site there is... you have nothing to worry about as long as you make it a Paypal transaction. As far as if it's "better" to sell kits one by one or in a large group, there's no one single answer to that. Some buyers are only looking for 1 or 2 specific kits and would have no interest in a big lot unless the price was right. Others would prefer to buy the lot all at once... there's no way to tell which way is "better", but I'd guess that if your bottom line is making the most money possible, selling individually is the way to go. If you'd rather have the convenience of one transaction, or just want to get rid of everything fast, sell it in one big lump. How many models are you talking? Ten? Two hundred? Keep in mind that if you sell the whole lot, depending on how many models you're talking about, it could require a HUGE box and a HUGE shipping cost.
  11. Yeah... nobody likes a slacker!
  12. Yeah, aren't model cars fun?
  13. SInce we're being picky, it's Gerry Rafferty.
  14. Hey man... it's not my fault if the lyrics I posted are too deep for you to understand...
  15. The wheels on the bus go round and round, round and round, round and round. The wheels on the bus go round and round, all around the town.
  16. He's in Calgary. You never know! BTW...I also am not a fan of the new Camaro... I think GM missed the boat on the styling, but I do like what you've done to it.
  17. You guys would eat me alive... I'd never survive. Besides, I hate it when I get sand in my shorts... I'll just watch from a safe distance. Carry on, gentlemen. And remember, happiness is a warm gun...
  18. Geez, dad.... you're no fun...
  19. Yeah, that might work... but by this point you've created as much, if not more work, than just using decals in the first place.
  20. This thread is too funny...
  21. Spraying through nylon mesh will work if the mesh is flush and tight against the surface...but if the surface is irregular or has deep indentations, like on this model, wherever the mesh doesn't make direct contact with the surface you won't get a crisp pattern. That's why decals are the way to go...decals and lots of setting solution and/or a hair dryer to heat and soften the decals. Check the "Building the Perfect Porsche" feature in the April issue of MCM. That's how it's done.
  22. Jairus, you're so funny... Let's see how many others get it.
