This is just ridiculous!
Harry P. replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I can see it now... you're driving somewhere and the scenery bores you. So you flip a switch and your choice of scenery is projected onto the windshield... -
Hey Mark... not to put too fine a point on it, but once more, explain your method of creating the seat decals. How were you able to lay the top decal over the vinyl diamonds and base decal without the base decal detaching from the paper? Is there just not enough moisture there to disturb the base decal? And once the "decal sandwich" was made, how were you able to wet the sandwich to release it from the base decal's paper without the top decal layer coming off?

Alternatives to toxic glues?
Harry P. replied to modelcars87's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Unfortunately, pretty much any glue that actually works, whether "model glue," super glue, epoxy, or liquid cement, will have toxic chemicals in it. That's why they work! If a glue is labeled as "non-toxic," you can pretty much bet that it won't work on styrene plastic. -
Just an FYI... if you post pictures here directly from your computer, you're going to run out of room here real soon. This site only gives each member a very limited amount of storage space for photos (after all, this is not a photo-hosting site). Much better if you open an account at a photo hosting site like Photobucket or Fotki, load up all your images there, and then just post the links to your images here. That way we see the pictures here in your posts, but they are not actually stored here on this site... the space they take up is on the photo hosting site. That way you won't run into any limits this site imposes on posted photos.

Hey, wait a minute! The article lists Mustang GT as one of the cars that does this. I have a Mustang GT! Have I been scammed all this time? -

Whooda thunk that one day the "driving" experience in their self-proclaimed "ultimate driving machines" would include cheesy sound effects... -

They have? I've never heard of it until seeing the story this morning. -

Now that is one good looking BMW. -
Walmart has all kinds of plastic storage bins, plastic storage drawer units, etc. Super cheap prices. Take a look next time you're in Walmart... the stuff is in the storage aisle near the kitchen stuff.

A taco is a taco. A pizza is a pizza. A "taco pizza" is neither one. It's a train wreck.

What next? A Nissan Leaf with A HEMI engine's sound? -
BMW has a reputation for loading up their cars with all the latest electronic gadgetry and technology, like their infamous "I Drive" system that was so complicated that nobody could figure out how it works, and BMW had to simplify the whole system. So this morning I'm reading a story in the paper on their new i8 hybrid ($136,000!!!), and I came across this little nugget. Quoted from the story: "But the best way to play is with the i8 in its Sport setting...Sport mode tightens up the steering and adaptive suspension, quickens the transmission shifts, makes the throttle more eager and lets the electric motor kick in earlier." So far, so good. Then this... "It also pipes the engine's divine whir into the cabin–in a way the company calls 'augmented.' BMW prerecorded the i8's best engine noises. When driven in Sport mode, the car plays this sonic mixture through its speaker system." Prerecorded engine sounds? Sheesh...

Is Reliable Resins reliable ?
Harry P. replied to nitro norman's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Everything that can possibly be said about Reliable Resins has already been said here over the years, many times. Let's not drag this old topic out yet again. I believe Norman's questions have been answered. -

Don't know, I just grabbed it off a google image search.

That is one good looking model!

Wow! Who would ever have thought there would be a diecast of that!

Wait, I want to understand this. So you laid down the two layers of vinyl diamonds on the decal paper, then on top of that you added a separate decal consisting of the overall "vinyl" texture and the red stitching... then you applied that "decal sandwich" to the seats? Am I reading that right? Very ingenious.

Yes, I heard that the other day. 93 years old, I believe. Talk about "unsung heroes"... I'd bet 9 out of 10 people would have no idea who they were or what role they played in WWII.
