  1. Because in many cases the cars that are represented by the resin bodies are not available as "regular" kits.
  2. Ok, here's a totally non-political "what irked you today" story. I bought an item on ebay the other day (not important what it was, that's irrelevant to the story). Turns out the item was defective. Not the seller's fault, it was a new item still in the factory packaging, but defective nonetheless. So I click the "Return" button and printed out the seller's return label that I am supposed to affix to the box when I return the item. The seller said that they cover the return postage. So I packaged up the item, printed out the return label, stuck it on the box, and dropped it off at the post office. The label clearly says "First Class Package Return Service" and "No Postage Necessary if Mailed in the United States." So what do I get delivered to me today? That package with a "Postage Due" sticker on it. I don't know who I'm supposed to be irked at... the seller or the USPS.
  3. Sorry. That was too political. I'll behave from now on.
  4. Inspiration juice!
  5. That's a real beauty! You really have a knack with these big 50s-60s boats!
  6. That's the newest menu item at Taco Bell! It's called a "Quanundrumchilupa!"
  7. A few years ago Illinois raised the state income tax rate by something like 60%! At the time, to keep us from taking to the streets with torches and pitchforks, they promised us it was "temporary." Now that "temporary" hike is supposed to expire. Guess what they're telling us now? That "temporary" tax hike might not be temporary after all. What a surprise.
  8. It's the same problem you have with polls. You have no idea how many people who you poll are telling you the truth or are lying. Since you have no way of verifying that anyone's poll answers actually reflect their real views, that makes any poll pretty much meaningless, doesn't it? I'm not saying kit manufacturers shouldn't do market research... I just have to wonder how accurate it is.
  9. Hard to say. I'm pretty sure the big brains at Coca-Cola did some thorough marketing research before they decided that "new Coke" would be a big hit. And look what happened. If marketing research can be that misleading, how can you ever trust it?
  10. Got a "love letter" from State of Illinois. Apparently I owe just a bit more in state tax than I thought I did. If anything can irk you, it's the idea of being forced to pay a chunk of your hard earned money to support widespread ineptness and rampant corruption.
  11. Darn "G" and "H" keys are too close together...
  12. Market research can be a tricky thing. Remember "new Coke?"
  13. You'd have to have to apply some sort of coating that would "resist" the plating process, then somehow remove that coating once you got the plated parts back, then paint the unplated areas. Not sure if it's even possible to apply a coating that would A, resist the plating process, and B, be easily removable so you could paint the unplated parts. Makes a whole lot more sense to just plate the whole part, then brush paint the areas not supposed to be plated.
  14. I agree with Austin. If any of you find any major issues with this kit, major enough to make you want to give up on it as Roger apparently has, please tell us. This forum is about sharing information, not hiding it.
  15. I know. That's why I posted the "$10 word" thing... I don't think Art used the word correctly, but it sounds impressive!
  16. Just to put the official end to this one... Genie opener gone, repair parts returned for refund. New Chamberlain opener installed (by me)... works perfectly.
  17. No way I can work that small!
  18. Why does the "blood red" 'vette look purple?
  19. Ok... just wanted to be sure I wasn't hallucinating!
