  1. Tell me how building a model car will teach you how a real car works. If you have no idea how a car works, how will putting together a model car change that? What you will learn is how to put a plastic kit together. That hardly relates to the function of a 1/1 car.
  2. Explain to me how building model cars gave you the knowledge to understand how each system operates.
  3. There you go. There's where you learned.
  4. The vast majority (if not all) of what you learned about cars was done so on your own initiative through your own interest and research, not by building a model kit. You say that "When you think about it, many of us have learned not just about cars, but how they were/are designed, much of "the how's and why's different types of cars and trucks developed as they did; even a lot about the history of our country in the 20th Century." But you didn't learn any of that by building models. Building models did not teach you how a car was designed, it did not teach you why cars and trucks were developed as they were, it did not teach you the history of the country in the 20th century. Building a model kit teaches you none of those things. Those things were learned by you via other methods. Based on your age, mostly books until recently, then the internet. Building a model car may be fun, it may give you pleasure and a sense of satisfaction for a job well done... but it does not teach you the things you listed.
  5. I actually have had to run the heat and the AC in the same day. It's crazy, especially in the "spring"... you can have one day with a high in the 70s or 80s and literally the next day a high in the 30s or 40s. The weather around here is very unsettled in the spring.
  6. That applies to most of the midwest... Illinois, for sure.
  7. I highly doubt that.
  8. That's some very impressive metalwork. That guy sure knows his stuff!
  9. Wow! A lot of you got this one right. It's a Daimler DS420. They were built fromn 1968-92. I'm not sure of the exact model year on this one, and your answers were all over the place, but if you said Daimler DS420, you were right! 10. Nobody wrecks a model like you do!
  11. Nice work. What kit is that? What year is that truck?
  12. And believe it or not, there are members here that have no idea there's a PM function.
  13. I won't ask why...
  14. Back to the actual box art... shouldn't it be Cadillac Eldorado? Not El Dorado?
  15. What do I win?
  16. Well, seeing as how his screen name is "Metalmad," maybe it was a Black Sabbath concert?
  17. Well yeah, if your "first" was yesterday!!!
  18. I don't even remember what I had for lunch yesterday, much less the first thing I ever bought on ebay or when. The fact that some of you guys can remember something like that amazes me.
  19. Come on, Doug... we're only kidding! It's ok to have a little fun, isn't it?
  20. How can you guys possibly remember what the very first thing you bought on ebay was??? Seriously. Aside from actually having kept a record, how can you possibly remember? That's like asking if you remember what flavor ice cream your very first cone ever was.
