  1. From now on, the "General" area will be limited to general topics related to model cars and/or general automotive-related topics. From now on all off-topic stuff needs to be posted in the new "Off-Topic" Lounge in the "Community" section. Note, this new off-topic area is NOT a rant section. No ranting, personal attacks, political or religious posts will be allowed–all current forum rules apply to this area. This new area has been created as a courtesy to those of you (including me) who like to socialize here beyond model cars, and to keep the "General" area limited to model car/automotive topics only. Casey and I will be gradually moving all current off-topic threads out of the "General" section and into the "Off-Topic Lounge" over the next day or two.
  2. Depends on what I'm trying to achieve. For chrome, I use BMF... for stuff like polished aluminum or stainless steel trim, Metalizer paints buffed out. For raw metal, Metalizers not buffed out or overcoated with Dullcote.
  3. Dave, do you use an Artograph? Or maybe the "grid method?" Your likenesses are just about perfect.
  4. Amazing what they do at such a small scale. Those models are real beauties!
  5. Those cars had no fuel pumps, so keeping the fuel pressurized meant working the hand pump pretty much all the time, didn't it? Wasn't that one of the jobs of the ride-along mechanic back in those days? Skip... "reifenluftpumpe" means "tire air pump." German has a lot of long words that are combinations of several smaller words, in this case "reifen" (tire), "luft" (air), and "pumpe" (pump).
  6. Beautiful! I have fond memories of the first-gen Falcons... it was my dad's very first car ever.
  7. To say that the aesthetic sensibilities of certain Italian designers working in the '70s/'80s was, um.... questionable, would be being kind!
  8. Pretty sure he meant his latest one, not his last one...
  9. It's amazing the results you can get if you keep calm and reasonable. More often than not, your complaint/problem will be taken care of. Recently my TV/internet provider raised their rates in what I think is a sneaky way... by not only raising the rate, but by also adding a brand new "fee" and raising all the other various existing "fees" they tack on to my bill. So I called and asked about the new fee that I had never seen before and what is was for, etc., etc. I was nice and polite, even joked around a bit with the customer service person... told her I wasn't blaming her for the rate increase, just looking for an explanation. So she says, "let me see what I can do for you"... she came back on the line and gave me not only a faster internet speed, but also cut $25 off my monthly fee, based on my old rate (the rate I was paying before this new increase!). It pays to be nice to customer service people!
  10. Do you think that a store that refuses to replace a part two months after that part's warranty has run out is in the wrong? Since they are a chain, maybe the stores are told not to honor warranties that have already run out.
  11. Just don't "loose" your keys while you're on that vacation...
  12. Bet you're a barrel of fun at parties.
  13. Reading through the posts on this topic, a lot of you guys are confused... You can shop in a store aisle... or you can vacation on a tropical isle... But you can't shop in a store isle...
  14. What's the one single day that almost nobody has to work? Sunday. Common sense would tell you that most stores would be wise to be open on Sunday. As far as accommodating employees who want time off for worship, nobody works seven days a week, so stores would always have people whose shift would include Sunday. Give them the morning. Open your store from noon 'til 8 or 1 'til 9. Makes sense to me...
  15. I looked it up, and you're right... car dealers are closed on Sunday in 15 states as a holdover of old-fashioned "blue laws." But the weird thing is, according to what I read, they can be OPEN on Sunday, but they can't SELL on Sunday. Man, we have some really stupid laws on the books!
  16. Doesn't that apply to any business? I could never understand why car dealers are closed on Sunday...
  17. Did you know that you can start a blog right here? Just click on the "Blogs" tab at the top of the page.
  18. Pretty sure either Evergreen or Plastruct (or both) make scale diamond plate. Just a few: http://www.hobbylinc.com/htm/pls/pls91682.htm http://www.hobbylinc.com/htm/jtp/jtp97452.htm http://www.hobbylinc.com/htm/mcg/mcg2270.htm
  19. Bill is right. A question should be posted in the Question and Answer section.
  20. Jürgen... I clicked on your link. Your model is absolutely spectacular! Could you post a few photos here on our forum?
