  1. "Hey, can you xerox this for me so I can tape it to the side of my frigidaire?"
  2. Agree 100%. Regarding the use of "scratchbuilt," it's like the old saying goes... you're entitled to your own opinion, but not your own set of facts.
  3. Like Matt said. Be more specific in your search. If you're looking for a Golden Delicious apple, don't search for "apple," search for "Golden delicious apple."
  4. *Plus shop fees. Or the similar *Plus disposal fee. As in, "Oil Change Special, only $24.99!!!* *Plus $3 disposal fee. Uh, if the oil change is $24.99 plus a $3 "disposal fee," then the actual price I'll have to pay is $27.99. I assume they won't sell me the oil change without the "disposal fee," so why play the silly games?
  5. Explain. What do you find annoying about that phrase? (I know people are always falsely claiming that their model is completely scratchbuilt, but that's not the fault of the phrase, it's the fault of the person using the term incorrectly).
  6. If you mix the epoxy correctly (half resin, half hardener), the amount mixed is irrelevant. Epoxy will cure no matter how large or small the total amount as long as the 50/50 ratio is correct. And it doesn't even have to be exactly 50/50, just reasonably close. More resin than harder means a longer cure time, but it'll still set eventually.
  7. Dang! You guys are good! I can't even begin to compete with some of the stuff I see posted in this thread. For starters, I rarely if ever build entire assemblies, like some of the engines posted here, from scratch. But I do like to scratchbuild details and smaller parts. Tonneau from newspaper dipped in watered down Elme'rs glue, shaped and left to dry and painted with craft paints. The welting is thread: Quarter window latches out of bits of styrene, brass and sewing pins. A little out of scale, but as small as I could make them and still have them work: The cargo box of this Mack: Blanket and tiedowns: Seat and seat springs:
  8. The reissue was done for two obvious reasons: One, the tooling is already paid for and any sales at this point are 95% gravy, and Two: They are appealing to the adult modelers that remember this kit from their childhood. But in its original release back in the day, it was aimed squarely at kids. That was 90% of the market then, and kids loved kits like this... simple, easy to build, and lots of shiny chrome parts. Accuracy wasn't an issue then.
  9. Well, since a few of you decided to give away the answer, this is a bust. Thanks a lot.
  10. Pat and Dave, take your never-ending argument to PM. None of the rest of us here are interested.
  11. Real or model? The answer FRIDAY!
  12. If you use a filter there will be very little, if any, overspray getting past it. And if you vent to the outdoors, the fumes will dissipate very quickly... in a matter of moments. And being on the top floor is the best place to be... any air movement at all will dissipate the fumes almost immediately. I can't imagine your neighbors ever being able to tell at all that you're painting.
  13. Yeah. living in Pocherville is very spendy...
  14. Pochers are great kits, but they come with a lot of baggage. They can be the most satisfying and the most frustrating model you've ever built!
  15. I didn't tell anyone that they shouldn't build it, I just answered the original question. Why does that bug you? It's not my fault that the kit is inaccurate and simplified.
  16. There are a few members here that would rather see a Harry P. punching bag!
  17. Cost is a factor today. In a few years costs will drop dramatically and "do-it-yourself 3D printing kits" will be sold at the local computer store, or even Walmart. You'll see. New technology always starts out priced high, then comes down as the technology improves. Remember how expensive camcorders or VCRs or flat-screen TVs were when they first came out? Towards the end of their "reign" as the dominant way to record TV, you could buy a basic VCR for way less than a hundred bucks. They barely cost more than a nice toaster.
  18. NO! No Pocher, not if he wants to stick with requirement 1 (Pocher instructions are vague and hard to follow sometimes), requirement 2 (Pocher parts don't fit well, some don't fit at all without major reworking), or requirement 3 (the only newer cars Pocher made are a Porsche 911 and a couple of Ferraris... not much choice there as far as newer cars).
  19. A 3D printer is going to be on most modeler's workbenches soon.
  20. Wow! That is just spectacular in every way, right down to the key in the ignition. You have some talent there, buddy!
  21. Nothing says "Christmas" like a garbage can holder!

  23. Odd how you have such a low opinion of this site, yet you stick around to moan and complain. Who's holding the gun to your head and forcing you to stay? Why not find another forum that you actually like?
