  1. I know the Hirohata Merc. To me it's a cartoon. The dark cove color is especially jarring and works against the overall design of the car. In particular the awkwardness of the chrome trim strip above the front wheel cutout, which should have flowed back from the top of the cutout and not above it. Small detail... big fail, IMO. Why this car has achieved legendary status is beyond me. Different people, different tastes.
  2. "Attempted" killing, I guess. As far as "Killing Reagan," O'Reilly has said that while the assassination attempt didn't literally kill Reagan, it basically started a long, slow decline.
  3. That's about as good looking a car as it gets.
  4. One of my best childhood friends, who lived two houses down, had a big collection of Corgi and Dinky diecast cars. Some of them were really beautiful. One of my favorite childhood memories is playing with those cars in his back yard. We used to say "wanna play Corgi and Dinky?"
  5. A stock '49 Merc really isn't a bad looking car. A '49 Merc with the obligatory chopped top is a cartoon.
  6. Now that's funny!
  7. I loved "Lost." For a while. The plots kept getting crazier and crazier... it was like the writers felt they had to top the previous episode with an ever more outlandish plot line. But that first season... great show. And Evangeline Lilly was a big part of the reason. In fact, I was such a big fan of the show that I did a series of illustrations of some of the main characters...
  8. A perfect example of the chopped top... the 1949 Mercury. It has become a horrible cliché. Every '49 Merc has a chopped top! It's as if the automotive gods have decreed that no '49 Merc shall be allowed to exist unless the top has been chopped. Well, to my eye, a stock '49 Merc is a far better looking car than one with the cliché chopped top.
  9. Like I said, a top chop works best on older cars, especially those that had straight pillars, like the cars you posted. But on a modern-era car, where the overall styling is much more cohesive and integrated, with curves interplaying with other curves, messing with those proportions generally messes up those proportions. The yellow Chevelle is a perfect example. The end result is dorky, clumsy, ill-proportioned, ungainly... and just plain ugly.
  10. To my eye, most (not all) cars look bad with a top chop... the more the chop, the worse the look. It completely ruins the proportions of the car. It generally works ok on some older cars, but a chopped '72 Chevelle like that yellow monstrosity is just silly looking, IMO.

  12. All of us had automotive toys when we were kids, everything from pedal cars to Hot Wheels to Tonka trucks and more. Sadly, all of my childhood toys were thrown out long ago (thanks, mom...), so all I have now are the memories. So I thought it might be fun to post some of the automotive toys we had as kids... and maybe some cool toys that were not necessarily automotive, but let's say "vehicular" in nature? These photos aren't mine, I found them online. But I did have this toy as a kid. It was the "Big Red" hot rod by Marx. It was huge (maybe 1/6 scale or so?), had a cast metal frame, and was battery powered. It took four of those big old D batteries to power the thing. It could run forward, reverse, or just" idle." You could also turn on the "engine sound" function (that round white gizmo on the bottom of the car was the sound generator... don't really remember how it worked). I remember "detailing" this thing back then. I painted the blower silver, painted the seats black, painted the steering wheel spokes, etc. I even wired the engine! One of my favorite childhood toys. Wish I still had it! How about the rest of you guys? Any cool vintage toys you owned as a kid? Or maybe still own?
  13. When the show started she was a redhead... a few years later on the show she magically became a blonde... and today her hair has again miraculously changed color to black. She's just about unrecognizable with the dark hair.
  14. Julia Child.
  15. How about this one?
  16. The link I posted shows several sheets of 8 pt. letters. No 6, though. The Woodland Scenics link that Chris posted shows very small letters... they don't say what point size, but they go by actual size (1/16 inch, for example).
  17. Not for me. '70s Chevelles all look bulky and puffed up to me. The best looking Chevelles were the previous generation...
  18. The body colored grille and bumpers aren't doing it any favors, either.
  19. It's not Angelina Jolie.
  20. Who is this?
  21. Did you do a google search? There are all kinds of sources. Here's just one... http://us.weluma.com/search/?q=Letraset Transfer&campid=5337771376&gclid=CPqi9fOWyMwCFRIbgQod6nULGg
