  1. Millions of Americans have had a rough year in 2010. But remember... throughout our history, every economic downturn was followed by a period of economic growth. Our system is cyclical... and for every downturn there's always a corresponding upturn. And we're all due for that upturn. Let's hope that the recession is almost over and we all have a better 2011. I know that I could sure use it!
  2. There's no way that ANY glue should still be tacky the next day. I suspect you have a bad batch. There are many other glue alternatives... Testors tube glue (everyone's "model glue" from their childhood)... liquid styrene cement, CA (super glue), etc. If the stuff you're using isn't working, dump it and try something else.
  3. Uh oh! Better get Maaco!!! or... "I'll paint any car, any color for $29.95. No Ups! No Extras!" -Earl Scheib
  4. Looks good. I like how you used a wash to bring out the detail in the wheels and lug nuts.
  5. Beautiful work!
  6. The Skip's Fiesta issue was molded in red. Just a guess here, but I assume the original issue came out about the same time as the real car.
  7. "Work in Progress"...
  8. "Galaxie" was the new Ford top-of-the-line model introduced early in the "59 model year, replacing "Fairlane 500". For a few months, the first '59 Skyliners were still badged as "Fairlane 500" but Ford switched to the "Galazie" name early on in the production run. Some of the cars had both "Galaxie" and "Fairlane 500" markings before the switchover was completed. BTW: I don't know about the original issue or the new reissue, but the "Skip's Fiesta" version comes with two figures, a seated male driver and a female passenger.
  9. A major project. Like Rob says, the trunk is much longer and the roof is shorter on the Skyliner (in order for the top to have room when it's stored). It would be a real challenge... but if you think you have the skills to pull it off, give it a shot! You have nothing to lose except a little plastic...
  10. Yeah, that can be a very expensive hobby!
  11. So am I. (Actually 3.6.13... latest update). And Photobucket works just fine for me. So the problem must be on your end.
  12. Photobucket works fine. The problem is probably on your end. If you are using an old outdated browser that may be what the problem is. Might be time to upgrade to a more current version of your browser... or a different browser altogether.
  13. I also built the "Skip's Fiesta" reissued version. No problems, the multi-part body is no big deal... don't let the naysayers scare you! It can be built just as easily as any otther kit, but you need to be careful to get the body panels lined up correctly and make sure your angles are correct. And the top mechanism is a bit delicate... I actually scrapped the kit parts and made new hinges out of paper clip wire. But that's not necessary, I just decided to do that. The kit parts work just fine, they're just fragile.
  14. There are upgrades/revisions going on right now and obviously not all the bugs have been worked out yet. Patience, grasshopper...
  15. Juergen, your work is amazing! Superior craftsmanship... and your paint jobs are always perfect!
  16. What I said is that we're talking about two separate issues here... the accuracy (or lack of) of the kit, and the separate but related issue of whether it's a good or a bad thing to comment on the perceived problems in the first place.
  17. Heck, I build anything and everything in all scales. I don't want to limit myself only to what's available in one certain scale. I've built everything from 1/72 WWI aircraft up through the 1/4 scale Dodge HEMI engine and all scales in between. As far as cars go... if I like the subject I buy the kit, no matter what scale it is (although I prefer larger scales).
  18. What do you say? The answer: REAL!
  19. Technical difficulties have been solved...
  20. I think by this point we're dealing with two separate but related issues. First is the Hudson itself and the flaws and inaccuracies it either has or doesn't have, depending on how rosy your glasses are. I think we've all agreed to wait and see on this one. Second is the issue concerning the fact that many of those who have dared to point out said flaws in the Hudson have been characterized as something less than assets to the hobby by those in the "gee, this kit is absolutely fabulous and it always rains lollipops and ponies" crowd.
  21. Amen, ditto, hallelujah and I'll second that! The people who have pointed out the obvious flaws in the Hudson are not insane, they're not "anti-hobby" and they're certainly not out to personally embarrass or bash anyone... they have simply seen the various inaccuracies of the Hudson and commented on that (not on the people behind the project) as is their right to do so on a model-car forum without being labeled as nit-pickers, malcontents, whiners or "kit assemblers." As others have said before, if you are among those who either don't see the flaws, see them but pretend they don't exist, or just don't care one way or the other, more power to you! Build the model with carefree abandon and have a blast. Heck, build a couple of 'em. But don't try and tell those who DO see the problems that they are in some way guilty of bad intentions or causing trouble.
  22. Ok... you guys really need to open a new Ala kart topic. We were talking Moebius Hudson here... remember???
  23. This looks like it should turn out to be a real beauty! The wire wheels really make this project.
  24. You guys might want to start an Ala Kart thread...
  25. Everyone handles what life throws at them in their own way. Your friend handled it his way... might not make sense to you (or his family)... but ultimately he made his choice based on his perception of his own reality. Looking at it from the outside–the only way you and everyone he knew can look at it–you see things very differently than when you're the person in question and seeing things from the inside out.
