  1. Ever heard of that crazy new invention called the "internet?" Tons of online sources for anything and everything you would possibly want, including plastic stock.
  2. It means a model that has no opening hood and no engine. (the bottom of the "engine" may be molded as part of the chassis plate, though.)
  3. If you've never seen it, rent the movie "Tucker: The Man and His Dream." Great car movie. I guarantee you'll love it.
  4. Also dig the Tucker. I think they called that color "Waltz Blue"... supposedly Mrs. Tucker's favorite color...
  5. Very nice! Hard to believe today, but just a few years ago Chrysler was actually building this car! Man, how times have changed at Chrysler...
  6. Very nice! I love that red Caddy you're standing in front of...
  7. Great photos! BTW... I am a huge DaVinci fan... artist, inventor, scientist, scholar... the man really had it going on!
  8. Since we're asking for deals... how about a kilt/bagpipe combo?
  9. Wow... a 1:1 diorama!
  10. 1:1 area, or actually here would be ok, too.
  11. I hope you have a scale model car wash!!!
  12. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/back_issues.html
  13. What could be more realistic than pavement cracks?
  14. Kind of surprised that nobody has mentioned the Viper V10 yet...
  15. Actually the rear wheels are pretty much in their "normal" place... it's the extreme length from the firewall forward that gives these cars their unique look.
  16. Joe, the proportions are different than what we are used to seeing on American cars... even the big American cruisers of the '30s like Duesenbergs and such didn't have the extremely long look that the mid '30s Mercedes had. In fact, Mercedes deliberately emphasized the long look by extending the front end of the car a good foot or more beyond the radiator grille... long meant "powerful" back then, and those cars were the "muscle cars" of their day. Maybe tastes have changed, but most people agree that the mid '30s Mercedes 500 and 540s were among the most beautiful cars ever made.
  17. It's always nice to hear from a "home town" guy! I did sort of the same as you...gradually got further and further away from the city... started out on West Cornelia, then to North Springfield Avenue, then to West Nelson Street, then to the Lincoln Square area (Wilson and Leavitt)... then to the 'burbs, which is where I still am.
  18. Did the door handles rust away???
  19. So you're from Chicago! Didn't know that... BTW... that neighborhood is definitely NOT as you remember it anymore...
  20. Not a fan of that color on this car (or on any car!)... but you sure did a heck of a nice job with the paint!
  21. Peter, you read way too much into the posts that were made by me (I assume you're talking about my post). Art is subjective. There is no "correct" opinion. I'm not making a comparison to this guy's work, but for example... some people will hang a painting of dogs playing poker or Elvis on black velvet in their homes and find it attractive, and derive pleasure from looking at it. Some people wouldn't be caught dead with either. One man's "art" is another man's "kitsch." Don't be offended if not everyone's taste in art doesn't completely agree with your own. There's no more reason to assume that you and I would agree on what's "art" than we would agree on what music we like best, or which ethnic food we like the most or what our favorite color is. No reason to be "disappointed" in the follow-up posts.
  22. I do both. In fact I create art for a living.
  23. Hmmmm.... since I'm not that impressed with this, a few members seem to take offense? I wonder when my right to express my opinion was revoked? Besides, I didn't say anything derogatory about it... in fact, just the opposite. I said it was impressive and surely took a lot of time and talent. It just doesn't appeal to me as "art" or whatever the intent was. It reminds me of those cars with advertising decals plastered all over them. Just my opinion, guys. I think I'm perfectly within my rights to have one that doesn't necessarily agree with all the other ones.
  24. Well, then you're way ahead of me!
