  1. Judging by the lack of replies, I'd say that not a whole lot of forum members are using it. I've never even heard of it until now...
  2. Photobucket, people!
  3. As far as model CARS go, none of my class of 2009 graduated...
  4. I like that idea! That makes good sense.
  5. The first thing that comes to my mind is... how does this material behave as compared to styrene or resin?
  6. What's a computer-generated model???
  7. The thing is, we're a big group of very different people who are all crowded into the same room, trying to get along, so there are going to constantly be things that come up. Something bugs this guy, another thing bugs that guy, and so on. It's inevitable and it's not ever going to end as long as we keep things pretty loose around here... which is the way I think most of you like it. The only way to cut down on the disagreements is to have so many rules in place, and run this place so strictly, that most things we might disagree on are eliminated before they ever become an issue. But do we really want that kind of forum here? Isn't the fact that this place is more "member friendly" than some other forums the very reason a lot of you are here in the first place? If the "cost" of keeping this place open and fairly free is a minor disagreement now and then, I say it's well worth it.
  8. Nope, that's not what I said. I didn't say that everyone should get an award just for showing up. I said that anyone who wanted to enter should be allowed to enter... and let the judging separate the "best" from the rest... not the opinion of a select few who have decided up front who's "worthy" to enter their contest.
  9. I'd prefer no pictures in the sigs at all. We already have an avatar, that's enough "personality" for everyone. I agree that some of the members are getting a little carried away.
  10. Because we get to express our opinion here, that's why. I guess it's the idea of an "invitation only" contest that bugs me. It just sends out a bad vibe, and doesn't do anything to enhance comaraderie or fellowship or good feelings in the hobby. Obviously if people want to organize that sort of thing, they have every right to do so, regardless of what anyone else thinks, including me. Sort of like a private country club... if you're on the inside it's cool, if you're on the outside looking in it's not so cool... but it's still going to happen regardless of what the people on the outside think. I'm not saying that the organizers have no right to hold that sort of contest... I'm just saying I think it's a very bad idea. Since we're spouting opinions here, I'm just adding mine. I don't like the idea, I don't like the message it sends to the hobby in general. I think a contest... any contest... should be open to all comers. Let the entrant decide if they have what it takes to compete, and let the judges decide if their work was good enough to deserve an award. The whole "invitation only" idea...maybe you'll get to participate if someone "recommends" you... that whole thing just doesn't sit well with me at all. Again... that's my opinion. Opposing opinions (like yours) are just as valid.
  11. Cyanoacrylate. Super Glue.
  12. Exactly!!! One for all and all for one, as they say. Park your ego at the door, pull up a chair and join in! "Invitation only" contests don't exactly extend the welcome mat to us all, if you know what I mean... just my humble, non-master level opinion...
  13. CA or epoxy. Pitfalls? Resin is fairly brittle, more so than styrene... so be careful when sanding or filing. Don't get too forceful.
  14. Man, does that sound familiar!
  15. Now put the 24s down and slowly walk away...
  16. Or even more to the point... exactly who gets to decide who "the best of the best" are? A handful of "master builders" in their own little self-contained bubble world hardly have knowledge of all the thousands and thousands of "master builder" level modelers out there who don't happen to be part of the "inner circle." For every "master builder" on their A-list of invitees there are probably hundreds, if not thousands, of "unknown" master builders all over the country that would never have received an invitation or a "recommendation" to be allowed to enter. A far better idea would have been an open invitation to everyone who thinks they have what it takes to compete at that level. Let the entrants themselves decide if they think they're worthy to participate, and may the best model win.
  17. Maybe there's hope for you yet...
  18. I wonder how many more guys would join the force here in the US if the cops ran Lambos?
  19. Geez, that's classy! But I think you would have to say "to-MAH-to"... and be holding your pinkie finger in the air while you say it!
  20. It's salad, George! Green stuff. Just a fancy type of lettuce... it's what they put on the Big Macs in Beverly Hills...
  21. Who can argue with logic like that?
  22. Very nice in every way! And I love that color!
  23. Chardonnay I like (having some right now ... ). Brie? eh. Arugula? Too bitter. Guess you can count me out!
  24. No, the money goes towards the champagne and paté...
  25. I'm assuming that GM still uses common platforms... so my guess would be a Malibu and a Buick (whatever the Buick model that's the same size as the Malibu) are more or less the same car under the skin. Maybe not... I dunno. What if you're an upwardly-mobile drifter currently passing through a nice slum while eating jumbo shrimp out of the dumpster of a fine dining Long John Silver's establishment? Would your head explode?
