A few I like... Bob

I like that. Other than the altered wheelbase it is like most of what I built early in my model making. I really like the partly opened window and the plug wire protectors. Bob

How did you get started building models?
turn1wonder replied to clovis's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My brother is 6 years older than me and he needed something to shoot with a pellet air gun (cars) and burn (aircraft). Did you know that pellets ricochet leaving dings all over the furniture and burned plastic sends thousands of black sperm-shaped threads all through the house...and older brothers will sell you out to your Parents? Bob -
Use adds please, but if I had to I would pay. A "members only" forum is not a "public" forum, use one or the other but having both dilutes both. Bob

I built one of these using the custom parts long ago, black like yours but nowhere near as well done. Great job Al! Bob

If I remember right from surfing the web, Mr. Geiger's entry in this topic is different from most if not all others. The build before the box top! Bob

turn1wonder replied to mnwildpunk's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Great vid JM! I turned 16 in '76 and got my 365 the same day and my license, I think, a week later. I was immediately the best driver in the world. A not-very good buddie's mother had a new Pacer and somehow I ended up driving it with 4 others in it. There was a steep curving hill in my 'hood that at one time had tracks of some kind that had been paved over but some spots were peeled away. I had that fishbowl up on 2 wheels. Everyone in the car thought I was the best driver in the world. I knew I had just used up a cat's life. Bob -
"Low-tus" Europa Special... final assembly!
turn1wonder replied to jaymcminn's topic in WIP: Model Cars
The TV show Overhauling did one of these up...but WAY up! Was not much of the original parts or body lines left. I liked it. Maybe Google some info for ideas? Bob EDIT: Google search... https://www.google.ca/search?q=Overhauling+Lotus+Europa&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a -

Had a '73 Camaro SS-RS that had a rear spring perch come up through the trunk and I parked it at my Parents. My Dad had a strange sense of humor. When it was dragged away there were 2 dead skunks under it. Bob -

turn1wonder replied to Chris White's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Chris, have you checked out Panther Hobbies in the Dundas/427 area? Bob -
What a coincidence, I just took this one back out to see if I want to work on it some more... Bob

Pulled an old "built" apart and found this... ...thought it might be of interest but did not want to start a new thread so please excuse me bumping this old one. Bob -
Nice work, I like that gen of 'Bird. Question: would not that setup have massive turbo lag? Bob

What makes a pro modeler a pro ?

Harry, I'm tempted to mention the professional fisherman...but I might get a warning. How about the farmer who was out standing in his field ? Bob -

Impass - AMT 67 Impala / Revell Pro Finish NASCAR Grand Prix
turn1wonder replied to turn1wonder's topic in WIP: Model Cars
The body...oh, the body. Frustration! The plan was for dark purple with flames with a cutout at the base of the hood for the NASCAR cowl induction and a screen in it. Dark purple. Purple pond. Twice. Silver. Purple pond. Transparent candy emerald green over silver base. Purple pond. Twice. Satin black. Check. Flames. Check. Add pinned mirrors as the final detail, put on masking tape to lay out holes... Purple pond. -
Impass - AMT 67 Impala / Revell Pro Finish NASCAR Grand Prix
turn1wonder replied to turn1wonder's topic in WIP: Model Cars
The NASCAR chassis was lengthened, tires sanded, wheels-backs modified to use the Impala ones, all of the suspension was modified, hand-made distributor with too-fat wires added, modified the headers and added hand-made side pipes. The Impala interior sides and dash was used, the cage was hand-made other than the lower center section and parts-box seats were added. The NASCAR interior floor pan was smoothed and the oil pump box was removed and the hole filled in. All of the floor and the top of the dash was then sprayed black and Metamucil spread over it, dumped out, the sprayed black again. After I looked at the pics I found a lot of stuff that needs more work/paint done. -
The name of this build represents a point that I reached in my life. The last few months of 2012 I had a bunch of heart attacks, all but one of them I ignored because I didn't want them at that time (yes, I am stupid). Finally I had one in December and I called EMS because things had settled down at home, and anyway, it was a big one. The next morning I had a massive one and flat-lined. I had a quad bypass that went pretty well, although my heart is quite damaged and my leg got infected which still is not good. Anyway...with a long stretch of down time ahead I looked over what builds I had been working on, frustrating concepts that held no interest now. This build is a fresh start, though it has been frustrating as it nears completion! I didn't take any pics until well into the build, I just wanted to work on it. Some pics for those that have that have followed along this far...

Thanks very much Ray, Tom and Dave The body has been painted for a few years and I've been looking at the wheels on the SSR for about the same length of time and then the 2 came together in my head. The wheels had to be modified quite a bit, I acually clamped them in a small tabletop vice and used my small drill press as a milling machine, moving the vice around Bob

Nice clean build, putting me to shame Bob
