I was doing the same...$50 a month, covering two people, instead of $400. No brainer! I can only imagine how much that $400 has gone up since I switched. REALLY struggling with this at the moment, though. I've been trying for SIX DAYS to get insulin out of my pharmacy that they will let go out the door without me paying for it out of pocket. THREE of my doctors have told them to get their heads out of their arse and they still......anyway, the head pharmacist was just given a revised lesson in "lividius maximus" and I think I'm finally going to get what I need. Unreal, I tell ya. Hm. Yet I'm returning from Hulk to David Banner, and still haven't had a smoke.

Heheh...thanks guys, and Jim just make sure it's not a menthol.

Okay, that's just an amazing flathead. Straying from the carbs for a second...Hypodermics for the looms? Back to the carbs...are those Norm's? They're stunning. Fuel bowl looks great, too. Love them all, but this and the Olds are killer. It's understandable to not want people to hotlink to competing magazines or forums, or even to type their names out, because it then becomes a matter for the almighty search engine to sort out and we all know what a fickle son of a barge that one can turn into (google took my customers WHERE?!). But to outright flog a well-spoken and informative poster for pointing out something completely in context and done respectfully? Come on...

Fantastic!

Yeah, and I love the way you guys rise above being all petty about other magazines even existing, and such, because we all know how easy it would be to be all childish about it and treat it like cootees. /sarcasm Grow up and let's see some killer carbs.

Nice start...I'll also be watching this one.

Great stuff, Don. In 1:1, those flat4's make a real sweet special song when they've got long pipes like that to breathe through.

Thanks a lot, guys. So far so good. 3 days no smokes, even.

Thanks guys. Yeah, even away from it for not even a couple days, the smell is a bit repulsive to me. Yet even so, I wanted one the moment I walked in the door. I've had a couple tonight, Bill Clinton style. Seems to be doing a good job of satisfying the craving while turning me off from it at the same time. Just the thought of inhaling made me half wanna yak.

Thanks a lot, guys...I really appreciate the kind words and thoughts. I'm home. Not only did I make it through a major heart attack (actually 1 major and a couple minors, soon after), but the event brought to light that I'm type 2 diabetic as well. The attacks definitely took me by surprise, but the diabetis is not so much of a shocker, having gone from being a pretty active guy to mostly sedentary for the last few years with a wrecked to heck back. The specialists I spoke with felt that was likely a major contributor. So, yep. Feeling grateful it wasn't worse than it was, but dreading nothing aside from the quitting smoking part. The rest will be relatively easy things to adapt to. So far the patch is a big fail, so I'm giving the e-cigs another try. One way or another I'll kick that one in the nads. Not wanting to experience a massive attack like that again is pretty dang good motivation. One thing's for sure. Nurses sure have gotten a lot younger and prettier since my last stay in the hotspittle. If I hadn't looked like death warmed over I'd have likely needed treatment for a few extra injuries.

Bare Metail Foil - Which One?
Gluhead replied to MILD's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Yep. Improved Chrome. -
Nice job. I had one of these in gold, and a Cutlass version in maroon. Pretty good cars, considering. I've toyed with the idea of making a model of my Malibu. Just too many other projects have come first.

Can't cut BMF nice and even?
Gluhead replied to Johnt671's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Burnish it well. I like a toothpick, so I can either use the super-pointy end or quickly cut the shape I need into the other end. Ditch the handle for your blade. Really. It does more harm than good in this situation. Make sure it's a brand new blade and that the very tip has not broken off. Do yourself a favor and pick up a pack of Excel #11 blades. They blow any version of Xacto brand away. No line to follow, to speak of? Or a really bad angle of approach? Take a ruler and give yourself one nice good straight edge when you trim your foil off the backing, and carefully line it up with the offending trim. -

Unfortunately, while bleach eats up the chrome plating in no time, it leaves behind the clear undercoat. LA's Totally Awesome degreaser or 91% isopropyl alcohol do take longer, but get the undercoat as well (if one doesn't get it all, the other will). I also use both of these for stripping paint...the alky on synthetic lacquers, and the LATA on enamels. I did used to use Castrol Super Clean, which I believe is basically the same thing as the Purple Power, and it was good for quite a few rounds. -

I'm partial to these: http://stores.scaledreams.com/-strse-664/Assorted-grit-Polishing-system/Detail.bok and these: http://www.micromark.com/soft-touch-sanding-and-polishing-pad-set-set-of-6,7787.html -
That's the only way I've ever been able to work it here, Bill...but it definitely does work! Stunning Cougar, btw.

Lookin' good! -
Hey guys. Slowed up by the ol' bod again, but I'm back to picking away on this one. I guess I never included this detail in this thread, so if ya missed it in the other section, here's what I did to the door handles. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=71690 The floor monster came along and ate one of the taillight lenses. I think it actually did me a favor, though...the kit ones weren't anything to brag about. Still, the plan was to keep this one a quicky so it's a bit annoying. Here's the kit lense. Whittled a new one out of a chunk of clear red sprue...it's on the drivers side. Kit part on the passenger side for comparison. Scored the newly shaped lens to guide a micro saw blade, and slowly drew that through to create the troughs to hold the trim. Using stretched sprue to create the trim. Black, specifically, to prevent any funky lookin' reflections inside the transparent plastic. I let the liquid cement help gloss the plastic back up. I'd buffed it a bit, but it still lacked luster. And foiled up... Oh, I threw a little foil at the body, too.

Fujimi Enthusiast Series BMW B7 Turbo Coupe/1
Gluhead replied to wgflatliner's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Nice start...these were pretty dang cool for a late BMW. On the carpet, I'd smooth up the floor some with panels cut from a for sale sign...the thinner the better, in this case. I would cover the entire floor with it...rather, I'd smooth off the areas that are heavily contoured and leave the large, major shapes unchanged. A lot of the European cars have/had quite a different approach to the floor coverings compared to American cars, especially when you have a model that has little compartments in the floor to stow electronics (as I'd imagine a BMW of this era does). Some good reference could be invaluable on this one. Good luck and keep us updated. -
Impressive!
