The hotter the primer or paint, the more likely the plastic color will bleed through. Duplicolor all tends to be on the hot side. Your best bet is to get rid of your mold lines, polish those areas back up a bit, then give it a couple coats of Future floor polish. It'll act as a barrier for the subsequent primer and paint. As far as the kit itself goes, it's a very good one. I can't remember any specific issues, but it has been a long time since I built it.

Nice save.

Pretty cool. What's the blue? Looks real good on the car.

A little more progress...you'd think these little mounts would be easy (at least I thought they would be). They fought me like crazy. lol. One of those things that'll rarely get noticed, but I'll know. May seem right out in the open from this vantage point, but by the end they'll be all but hidden by the headers.

Excellent! And +1 on the dingleberries...

65 Riviera Mid-school Cruiser Flaked Paint 6-6

Mine talk to me all the time. It's when I start talking back to them that it starts to get a little weird. -
Real nice job on that one. I don't even mind the modern wheels...in this case, they work. On the pic thing, this is what I've found I need to do. With the fotki image up, right-click on it and copy url. Hit the "image" button here and paste the url. For whatever reason, it's the only way I can get it to display them correctly.

SMP '59 Corvette 3-in-1 Kit ala Watson, Paint Phase 2!
Gluhead replied to John Goschke's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Can't wait to see this one finished...it's gonna be hot! I had no idea there was such a fine looking Corvette hiding in that SMP kit. It really is a hidden honey. -
Yeah, they are very nice, indeed...even when they're on backwards.
-
Nice... I'm glad they brought this one back out. One can only see so many bubble-fendered Cobras before they start to become a bit invisible to the naked eye. lol.

Great work, Kenn. Thanks for sharing it.

No complaints here. I think it looks pretty cool.

Love it. And AMTAxlehead? I lol'd. Some projects are fun to kitbash to make full use of modern tooling, but I can just as easily appreciate using a crude old plate to get the job done. Just depends on the goal, and if it works then go for it...screws and all. -
Thanks, Ron. I've been watching yours as well. One more engine mockup shot that I forgot to post the other day. Nice thing about using the Willys' SOHC block is that its motor mounts line right up with those in the '57. A little trimming on each to fit them together and set the engine height, and that part was all done. Just need to make a spacer for the tranny snout to hold the motor at a slight incline instead of a severe one. I should also note that I clearanced the tranny hump about as much as the existing plastic allowed. Fortunately, it was just enough. I need to get the frame in shape before I get too far ahead of myself on the engine. Typical cart-before-the-horse BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH that comes along with making stuff fit. Change one thing and it all snowballs. Here's where I'm at right now. I wanted to ditch the lower halfs of the inner fenders. The way the kit is designed, it has a full firewall behind the inner fenders. Really nice...especially when they were kind enough to include the lower part of the firewall/frame body mounts in the floor plate engraving. I've left them in place while I removed everything ahead of them, and will build the missing upper portions from sheet stock.

I love that old IMC Bug kit. Rip it up!
-
Lookin' good, Walt. I dig the two-tone variation.
-
Ouch! Hate that... Oddly enough, I painted this kit the same colors back when it first came out...and was also visited by Mr. Murphy in nearly the same fashion. Looks good, though. I really like the taillight treatment.
-
Lookin' good, Tom! Love the un-ordinary interior color combo.
-
Pardon the drool.

Wasn't happy with the front cover either, so today I sat down and reworked it. Still not perfect to the real thing, but it's a lot closer...and close enough for me once it's buried with other parts.

Bugs me, too. I'm still debating over whether to clip the frame or not, but if I stick with the stock rails they'll definitely be smoothed up. Which cammer is that, btw?
-
Yeah, I know...the art of self-delusion, right? Ah well. I try. Yep, Cammer. It was the first thought I had when I read the kit was coming out, although I'll admit that I danced around several non-Ford alternatives before I finally decided to stick with it. I'll put anything in anything and not feel the slightest bit ashamed. Alright, that sounded bad. Yes, I'm still talking about engines. lol. It came down to this one, a blown Pontiac SD421, a tri-carb Olds 455, and a DOHC Hemi. My semi-conscious "backstory" for the car just ended up calling for the big Ford. I'm betting that I build another one down the road with one of the others. It's very loosely based on the Riki Creiger '57. I have several kit Cammers, but I wasn't completely happy with the rocker covers in any of them. I ended up smoothing out the pair from a Polar Lights funny car and replacing the fins. The block, front cover and pan are from the '33 Willys. Intake is, if I remember right, from a '69 Torino kit. Carbs from a T-Bolt, and the Toploader from the '66 Fairlane.
