  1. I wasn't going to buy anymore kits until I finished a few more projects, but it was pretty hard to resist a new '57 Ford when my brother called me up and said "Hey, I'm headed to Hobby Lobby with the wifey and we've got an extra 40% off coupon." Since the nearest one is an hour away, how could I not? Can't do much painting anyway, 'til the weather is more friendly, and I want to hack on one of these a bit.
  2. Looks great. What's the source of those carbs?
  3. Kenneth, it's great to see you back into a project. Interesting subject, too. I'll be watching along with everyone else.
  4. Thank you, Terry, for that post. So far, the only valid reason listed in this thread for not having one here is Tom's comment about the possibility of loss of advertising revenue for the magazine. I guess what I find distasteful is the perpetual "we can't do that! we're not a store!" excuse, when it's really just a matter of personal preference. Just say "we don't know how to do it without drowning ourselves in it so we won't even try" and let that be that. Anything else is an insult to our intelligence. Maybe that flies fine with some... But I digress. Plastic, here I come.
  5. Not being particularly fond of the smell of dead horses while they're being beaten, I'll happily drop this and go back to working on some plastic. Threads like this are precisely why I tend to avoid the "general" section. I'll just take this as a gentle reminder of that.
  6. Sorry, Harry, you're just plain wrong on that one. Thousands of enthusiast forums have for sale sections. Denying that is simply being obtuse.
  7. So let's hear from Gregg exactly why? I could see it...maybe...if eModelcars was a flourishing marketplace, but it's a dead horse. It's not even got a life-support-induced pulse. You may get more pm's, but you're not responsible for transactions. Thousands of other major sites do it without hesitation, so what exactly is the hangup? You'd get more traffic from...gasp...model builders, as well.
  8. Lookin' good, Joker.
  9. Looks good so far. If you don't foil the beltline trim, maybe hit it with a different shade/sheen of black.
  10. Thanks, guys...glad you like where it's headed. I've mentioned earlier in the thread that I'm saving the engine for a hot rod. Can't leave the bay empty, so I've been picking away at this sbc...just a simple, reliable mill with a bunch of fins thrown at it. Works for me. The valve covers are unknown parts box pieces. They're too shallow as is to look right, so I'm making them taller. In this pic, the drivers side has been re-worked and the passenger side is untouched. Any guesses what the air cleaner started out as? Also, I'm having a hard time finding a nice small Rochester 2bbl in my stash. If anyone knows a good kit to steal one from, or possibly has an extra laying around, please let me know. A big carb on this thing would be a joke...it needs a normal sized squirter.
  11. Agreed...that leather look is real nice. Might have to steal that.
  12. Tom sure did a great job on that body. I'm sure this will look great when finished, even with the big wheels.
  13. Mike, this stuff strips off chrome and it's undercoating in less than an hour...a few minutes in some cases. Cheap, too. Get the big jug because you will love it. Great at stripping enamel paints, as well. LA's Totally Awesome Concentrated Degreaser.
  14. Hey guys, sorry for the lack of updates on my projects lately. I'm lacking a heated space where I can paint, so it's hard to make big visual progress during the worst months of winter. I keep picking away at things, just not much picture-worthy. But I've finished up a few things on this one now that it makes sense to show it off a bit. Lost the rear quarter side and rocker trim to clean things up, finished out removal of all the mold lines and minor sinkers, and built a visor out of polished printing plate and styrene. It's all but ready to prime and paint, but that'll have to wait for some warmer weather. Oh, and Charlie...I did find a creamy metallic that goes just right with the root beer. It's Krylon Blonde Shimmer. Prob'ly not that much different than the Cool Vanilla although maybe a touch more tan. Can't wait for paint day...if the spoon tests are any indication, this thing will look real yummy.
  15. I like that it's not a clone, and it really is an excellent tribute. It draws just the right elements from the Doane roadster. Beautiful.
  16. Gotta love a good quickie! Nice job.
  17. Exceptional!
  18. Yeah, probably not very likely, but it looks cool anyway. Nifty T2.
  19. I've had all the bmf woes that everyone else has had as well. I think a lot of it is shelf life with the more recent stuff. I've gotten my last few sheets from Scale Dreams, and they've been in great condition. Scale Dreams has the best shipping rates that I've been able to find, so I suspect that helps move it out the door fast enough that they're able to keep their stock pretty fresh. My only minor gripe with the stuff now, is the adhesive that they use has a slight lumpiness to it. It doesn't show itself much on fine trim, but on large pieces it can become more obvious. Fortunately, I've gotten the hang of using alclad, so if I get a trim piece that can't be coaxed into submission, I can always spray it.
  20. Lookin' good, Chris. I think I'd go for the giraffe, but mostly because I've used the leopard a few times already. And yep, I can fully relate on the needtofinishsomethingitis. My attention span is that of a fish, lately.
  21. Okay, ya had me hooked until the outboard turbos. Since you typically catch your build issues and resolve them, I'm just going to say that I look forward to seeing what you do to make them look like works of art instead of afterthoughts.
  22. Sounds like a fine plan to me. Looks a lot better already.
  23. Not much I can add after the insights already given. But I can say I think it's a great kit, and if you absolutely must chop it (T's are so easy they almost chop themselves), a little goes a long way. Signed, Someone who loves tall t's.
