From what I've been able to find, all 2G Hemis installed in street cars were painted Hemi orange, along with the 440+6. The regular 440 and smaller engines were turquoise. Early Hemis were painted different colours depending on what vehicle they were installed in.

I got a little deflated when painting these a few days ago as the Road Runner's paint did not turn out at all and it is this enjoying a pleasant Super Clean bath. But that's okay; it is going to be painted black anyway so it is easy to visualize. The GTX, on the other hand, is turning out rather well. I was waiting for the paint to set up good and hard so I can start foiling. Have started painting the interior in the mean time. I have also painted both the engines for this cars. At this point, the Mo'fans with the weak stomachs may want to hit 'Back' and stay out of this thread. I've always wanted to see what a Hemi would look like done up in Chrysler turquoise, so here it is! I can see I need to touch up the valve covers a bit. The camera hides nothing!

Weather problems on the East Coast?

I've heard there's another whack of snow coming this weekend/Monday. Whereabouts in Maine are you, Miles? -
Weather problems on the East Coast?

Still blowing/falling here. -
Small update. Detailed/painted the wheels; GTX on top, Road Runner on bottom. I have also separated the exhaust from the rear axle for the Road Runner.

Hey Mike. if you're looking to build a Road Runner as I am, you will need the original issue Satellite kit as it has no body emblems and a plain grille. The later issue GTX has the emblems on the body and grille. Hey Steve, I have a couple Chevelles in my stash so I checked the wheels as you suggested. They have the SS emblems in the centre caps and are too small to fit in the tires I'm using...guess I'll have to stick with the ones I have!

It has been a long time since I've tinkered with a car (have been building pickups lately) and certainly a while since I've posted a WIP, but I appear to be on a roll this year so here we go. I'm building a pair of '71 Plymouths: a GTX and a Road Runner. Base kits are the Revell/Monogram '71 GTX and the Monogram '71 Satellite. The GTX gets the hood from the Satellite, along with a set of Magnum 500s from the Monogram '70 GTX. The Road Runner gets the Air Grabber hood from the GTX, along with a set of Torq Thrusts from the Monogram '57 Bel Air. The GTX is getting a Hemi from the Monogram '71 Barracuda convertible (air cleaner is from the '70 GTX). And the Road Runner is getting the 440+6 from the GTX. I have on order a set of decals from Firebird Designs that will give me a set of red strobe stripes for the Road Runner as well as the appropriate fender engine decals for both cars and the insert decals for the GTX's hood.

So I'm not sure if anyone else is having this problem, but I seem to be unable to post new threads at the moment. I recently switched from Chrome to Firefox on my laptop as Chrome was quite the resource hog and running really slow. At first I thought maybe it was just an issue with Firefox, but the same thing happened in Chrome when I tried again. I was trying to post a new WIP thread in the car section, and when I hit the "Post New Topic' button, the little green progress bar did not appear at the top of the window and I got kicked back to the forum index rather than the topic list for the car On The Workbench section. I am running Firefox and Chrome current versions on Windows 8.1. EDIT: I was able to get the thread started on my phone and paste in everything else (phone is running Android KitKat and Chrome).

Something I've recently tried for the first time is melting some scrap styrene (like little pieces of sprue) in liquid glue (like Tamiya Extra Thin). It will turn the styrene to goo and you can apply it like putty. Once the glue evaporates, you can sand it just like the surrounding plastic and the "filler" becomes part of the structure. I was having a similar problem as you with the roof on a 33 Willys kit. I plan to strip all the putty off and try the melted sprue instead. YMMV.

Even if you were to combine the two, you would end up with a truck that was never produced. The full metal sided Avalanche didn't come out until the 2003 redesign of the pickup line.

Oversize load. Too much trailer?

Going by the Manitowoc logo on the side there I would say it is one small part of a very large crane. Any more pieces in the yard there, Clayton? -

1980 Datsun 720 - Update 25/2/15
Fabrux replied to Fabrux's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Thanks, Dad! Managed to get most of the paint work done today. By the time the paint was dry enough to handle it was too dark to take any good pictures, but I did manage to get a few shots in primer. It was satisfying to see it all in one colour. -
77gmc wrecker
Fabrux replied to Bige37's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Looking good! Inspires me to get back to my own wrecker project. Small nit, though: the truck is actually a 79-80; the box is mislabeled. -
Why do your kits end up stalled
Fabrux replied to atomicholiday's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The number one reason my builds get stalled is definitely lack of focus. An idea will pop in my head for something else and I'll move on. The number two reason, especially this time of year, is paint. I can only spray outside where I live and its too cold to do so now. I can paint in my dad's garage, but my parents live 20 minutes away. So, I usually get something prepped for paint and try and paint everything in one go. Sometimes I get several bodies ready to go to get agead. -
Okay, I definitely have to get my hands on one of those!

The way I build is such that I rarely can build anything straight out of the box. I have to change something, for whatever reason. It's a compulsion I can't shake, it it affects the speed at which I build greatly...!

1980 Datsun 720 - Update 25/2/15
Fabrux replied to Fabrux's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
I finally managed to get some good pictures. I've also added a black wash to all the panel lines and grilles. I've been trying to get the hang of this wash thing, may have finally figured it out. -
Ha! I forgot about this thread. I guess I could've put my Scout in here...

Can't say I'm surprised. Those actually look to be the same lug-less wheels that are in the Bush Baby Courier kit, only those ones aren't plated.

Man that's fugly. Not Chevy Reaper level of ugly, but getting there.
