  1. Thanks Dann, the backdrop is the 'Backstreet Garage', a resin kit from Scale Production.de, in Germany. I think the scene depicts, an old family run garage in the backstreets of France/Belgium/Germany/Holland perhaps just after WW2.
  2. Having found this in the loft, already built from 1992 I thought I'd better put the decals on and finish it. Back then my decalling was worse than dismall. The bonnet came in clear plastic so I just put the decals on.

Cheers guys, that's the real upside of being retired, no downsides allowed, well over nearly 5 years none so far! I passed my school exams, in woodwork, metalwork, art and english 50 years ago and been building kits since the age of eight. I had an office based job so no creativity there, and made redundant 4 times and found other jobs totally different, pnuematic engineering, selling insurance, car leasing, warehouse fork lift driver, and postman in a large post based university, so modelling kept my sanity! I'm constantly looking at art and design (hope to design and build our own house some day, built our own cabin 5 years ago where I do all my 'work')) so these things help when it comes to building kits.

Finished today, de-chromed all chrome parts and sprayed satin black. Sprayed body Plasti-Kote Chrome and polished with micro gloss to give alloy polished look. added two home decals on two front aero-foils leaving off lights, added seatbelt decals and kit decals.

Hi Dann thanks for your comments. I certainly think that the buttercup yellow i've used on this better than the pink that is suggested! I have 3 left........... a Trantula dragster, the Monogram Garbage truck with the surfboards, and a model T rod with trailer. The rest (60) are boring production saloons and sportscars and a few trucks/vans and rally/race cars. Nothing really that I can modify, I can perhaps camo some. I looked at an old kit of a Ford GT40 Le Mans car. It's supposed to be a light coloured body plus period decals and it's been moulded in gloss black plastic!! I was thinking of putting it on 20" and 21" Centrelines and making it a road car? Anyway I've got the Trantula kit out today in yucky green, de-chromed it, painted some of it Satin Black and I'm looking at my stash of my self printed decals,(Camo/Surf/Race) as far as that I don't know! But I may wake up around 4 or 5 in the morning with some thoughts/ideas! So I better take a pencil and paper to bed tonight. I was also lookig at one of our race series here called Time Attack where the car does just one sprint lap against the clock, interesting as most of them are production cars but are heavily modified with big wings front and back, like some they use on Pikes Peak, so that's another idea, swimming around in there.

Thanks guys, it took a lot of time to get each piece right, chassis, engine, interior, body, bubble top and boot flap. All needed work to get to fit square and level.

Just completed this over the last week or so, built box stock other than paint and home grown decals. Found the chassis/frame to be a bit flimsy so de-chromed it and laid it up on a sheet of plasticard for strength and painted it Plasti-Kote metalic Red. and then finished the build-up.
  16. Yes Dann they appear to have more detail than Tamiya, Fujimi, Hasegawa etc!
  17. Mine is the Belkits 2015 version of the VW Polo WRC.
  18. Having built 6 or 7 of these Manxes I've seen a few methods of masking, one was using what we have in the UK called Blu-Tack, it's a putty that kids use to stick posters to the bedroom wall. It's easy to mold round things and once the paint has dried just peel it off. At least you can stop bleed through. For my 4X4 Manx I bought a Jimmy Flintstone resin body with windsheild and scratchbuilt the chassis from plasticard. If your using a Beetle kit you have to shorten the chassis pan as they do with 1:1 kits.
  19. Thanks Ray. Yes but these have a twin edge and it's dificult to get the black marker, and I have three thicknesses of pen, to get into the middle, without actually painting them, allowing the paint to run in.
  20. As soon as I tried to place the two dashboard decals I realised that the date on the plans (1983) meant that the other decals were shot. I dived into my decal reserves and found a recent buy of Cartoon Characters by Hobby Design would take their place. I also fitted some Cibie (headlights) , tuner and tyre decals I also found that the inside doors between the driver and goods had no glass supplied so I found and cut and fitted some frosted plastic windows in place. Apologies for the state of my window seals as I still can't get that right!
