Just completed this over the last week or so, built box stock other than paint and home grown decals. Found the chassis/frame to be a bit flimsy so de-chromed it and laid it up on a sheet of plasticard for strength and painted it Plasti-Kote metalic Red. and then finished the build-up.
  4. Yes Dann they appear to have more detail than Tamiya, Fujimi, Hasegawa etc!
  5. Mine is the Belkits 2015 version of the VW Polo WRC.
  6. Having built 6 or 7 of these Manxes I've seen a few methods of masking, one was using what we have in the UK called Blu-Tack, it's a putty that kids use to stick posters to the bedroom wall. It's easy to mold round things and once the paint has dried just peel it off. At least you can stop bleed through. For my 4X4 Manx I bought a Jimmy Flintstone resin body with windsheild and scratchbuilt the chassis from plasticard. If your using a Beetle kit you have to shorten the chassis pan as they do with 1:1 kits.
  7. Thanks Ray. Yes but these have a twin edge and it's dificult to get the black marker, and I have three thicknesses of pen, to get into the middle, without actually painting them, allowing the paint to run in.
  8. As soon as I tried to place the two dashboard decals I realised that the date on the plans (1983) meant that the other decals were shot. I dived into my decal reserves and found a recent buy of Cartoon Characters by Hobby Design would take their place. I also fitted some Cibie (headlights) , tuner and tyre decals I also found that the inside doors between the driver and goods had no glass supplied so I found and cut and fitted some frosted plastic windows in place. Apologies for the state of my window seals as I still can't get that right!
  9. That looks just superb Jonathan! That's definitely on my 'to buy' list for this year. I still have the Citroen HY Van to get on with.
  10. Superb! I love everything about the LB Performance look!
  11. Yes Kai, I buy all matter of 'Evergreen' made plasticard/plastic sheet, round stock rod, square, tubes all of these in different sizes from Fred Aldous in Manchester. Just Google search on that name. Good to see you back and enjoy yourself!
  12. Thanks Dann, yes the original shots on the deck outside my cabin workshop weren't really a finished scene so I did these yesterday.
  13. Purely for my education, staging a scene relating to a build has been a problem for me. I had a quick search on Google for beach scenes, came up with two and printed them off. I then found a piece of sandpaper I use for woodwork and took two pics on the mantlepiece over the fireplace..... I then went into the garage to play with the sand and came up with............ Then added Ed to the scenes................................... Now I think I've got a rough idea of what to do next time!
  14. Thanks guys, all of a sudden I like quirky, loopy cars!
  15. Cheers Derick.
  16. Yes I learn't that lesson, 'strip the chrome before painting' I use (in the UK) a liquid oven cleaner. It doesn't damage the plastic, but use carefully, and well rinse the parts afterwards. I did paint some chrome parts on the Manx's I built (7), I used acrylic clear colours, red, orange (rear light lens paints) and blue. It gives a beautiful coloured shine.
  17. Thanks Chris.
  18. Thanks guys. Yes I wish I had seen these crazy kits sooner.
  19. Well V8 Trucker, my photography was hit n miss. So I went into, Currys/PC World ( Electricals,Electronics, Camera gear, Computers, very large store) recently and bought two things. The first was an update to an old bit of kit, a small table standing tripod. The second, something our eldest son keeps telling me to buy, a monopod, a single leg height adjustable camera stand, both are by Manfrotto. I've also started to use the telescopic button on my cheapy digital camera. So most of the pictures here are taken about three feet away, and are all in focus! We learn something new every day, well I do anyway!
  20. Well thanks guys, I've only made a couple of these, what I would call unusual kits, you know cartoon type vehicles. But all of a sudden I like them and perhaps It's good to build something that's loopy!
