Will there ever be a plastic mk III lincoln?
Zoom Zoom replied to JAFFA's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Same here; I've got all the '50's subjects I already want, but many in our hobby are still lost in the '50's and earlier. I'm surprised how '70's era stuff is being almost completely ignored except for a few reissues. Coupe de Villes, Marks, '76 Eldorado CV, Rivieras, LTD's, Grand Am/Can Am/Grand Prix/Monte Carlo/Laguna/GTO...lots of interesting stuff that could be kitted in both stock and with "fad of the hour" custom parts to make it appealing to the widest audience. -
Filthy? Hardly. Must have been painted with Clearview 2000

Water-based Spray Chrome System.

That's my mantra! As soon as it gets too complicated or too much like "work", back in the box it goes -

Yes, with enough time, talent, and hard work anything is possible. Now whether that eventually gets anything into other builder's hands is a complete ###### shoot! Seems ripe for the picking for someone, somewhere to give it a go... -
Considering that Tim is one of the original NNL crew, what he says goes. Any alternative viewpoints really don't matter in the grand scheme of things. It's really not in the spirit of the NNL to nitpick or count rivets about this or that...remember, the whole idea was to get away from that mindset and have fun. Straight from the horse's mouth, that's the best way to get information. Thanks Tim for attempting to get people to realize what an NNL is and what it stands for.

If I had the money to tool up some '70's kits, I'd do it. Seems nobody else ever will -

I'd love to see plastic Mk. II, III, IV, V... but I seriously doubt it will ever happen. Resin would work if the master is done by a master. -
SAL and EMS are for US shipments; not sure about to other countries. SAL is "surface air lift", takes longer to get to destination. EMS is an overnight air service, once it's shipped it's only a couple days and it's delivered, therefore it's much more expensive, shipments are also tracked. Boxes over a certain dimension/value will be shipped only via EMS; friends ordered a case lot of Fujimi kits and they were automatically shipped EMS; the per-item shipping cost was a bit higher than SAL but not ridiculous, nor approaching what the US retail for the kit would be in a hobby shop.

Great service; but you must realize how they work their orders or you could be frustrated beyond imagination. If you make an order for items not in stock, they do NOT hold the rest of your order until that item(s) come in stock. You must carefully decide when you place the order which box to check; to wait X amount of time for items to arrive (and hope the stuff they have in stock now is still in stock when the others arrive), or cancel items not in stock, or cancel the whole order. Generally on new items, they'll get restock pretty quick. You might order something that shows in stock and find it to go out of stock during the time between you placing the order and them actually filling it. That stuff usually comes right back in. But if you have an order peppered with new stuff and older items that aren't in stock, there's no guarantee they'll all ship together. There's a good chance something you want that's there today will be gone tomorrow in someone else's order while waiting for something else. It's frustrating that they do not hold anything for your order until out-of-stock stuff comes in. I brought this up in person w/Scott Hards at the IPMS Nat's, he told me that's simply how they operate. I don't particularly like it, but I learned how to play the "game". I only pre-order items, or only buy items that show "in stock". I don't bother ordering anything there that's not in stock. You might have better luck getting items/faster email service to find out if something's in-stock, or how long a wait for restock, from Rainbowten or Hobby Search. They're not as big as HLJ, but also have great service. And they're faster to ship items once the order comes in. HLJ can be at times painfully slow to ship an order. You can sometimes wait 2 weeks for them to process the order, the payment, and actually get it out their door. Sometimes it's only a day or two, but most often it's about 3-4 days of waiting for an order to ship. I had a box crushed by UPS once; sent photos, the kit had some minor damage, not "terminal", but they shipped me a completely new kit and I have the crushed-box kit (Hasegawa Miura, only got some minor chassis damage and to a chrome part or two) to build later with a few repairs. Great service...but you have to know the ins and outs of dealing with their order system. Ship via SAL; it's much cheaper and takes about 10-14 days to reach you once it's shipped. Longest I waited for an order was about 3 weeks from submitting the order to getting it in hand.

And to think that Polar Lights was going to do the then-new '05 Mustang GT convertible, but canceled it (the Ford GT got canceled but then un-canceled). I think it would have had a decent shot of being a good seller, but someone obviously got cold feet on that one along the way...

Revell Shelby GT500 and Shelby GT350H kits
Zoom Zoom replied to gasman's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I measured the '05/'06 GT wheels, amazingly enough they measure .785" visible diameter, which correlates to an 18" 1/25 scale wheel, a scale inch larger than they should be. I would guess the GT500 wheels appear small because OOB the model sits high (especially in front) and the sidewalls are so tall and devoid of engraved detail. Stock 1:1 GT500 wheels look a bit small to me The stock GT500 will look best if the builder uses lower profile tires and lowers the stance a bit. The KR that was on the 1:1 show circuit had beautiful 20" wheels, low profile tires and a lowered stance which looked perfect on the car; the production car has 18's, higher profile tires, and a higher ride height, making it look tame vs. the show version. It looks like Revell's using larger wheels and tires on the KR that appear sized more like the show car. One inherent problem with Revell Mustangs is shallow wheelwells; fitting custom or wider tires is difficult without some serious surgery, and the prototype KR in the flyer looks like the wheels/tires stick outside the fenders a bit too much. I have yet to build a completely stock new Mustang, having used Aoshima 19" wheels, Fujimi Brembo brakes and lowered ride height on my otherwise stock '05 GT and Fujimi Porsche Cayman 19" sport wheels on my Jada GT500: -

That's disappointing. They should be a scale inch larger; I assume the tires are the same too? I gather that the GT-H wheels are also undersized. Undersized wheels are a consistent scourge on our hobby The GT500 KR wheels look to be more accurate size-wise if their photo is any indication. -

What? You don't care for Mustangs?

Hey Revell, where's my ZR1?
Zoom Zoom replied to ismaelg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Unless there's some disaster for Revell in the upcoming months, I can't imagine them not doing the ZR1; it fits their lineup and they've already got the basis for it...they're finally exploiting their '05 Mustang kit with the GT500, GT-H, GT500KR, and Bullitt (sure wish they'd done that with the '99 Cobra to make an '03 Cobra, '02 GT, Bullitt, Mach I...) so I'll bet by the next time they have a new flyer and some new announcements that the ZR1 will be on it. It's a no-brainer If they're not careful, who knows...Jada or Auto World might have a go at it -
That's one impressive model Dave! Nice work, very inspiring. The review will be helpful to those of us who have this kit
-
Revell's flyer says "'57 Chevy 150 Sedan "Blackwidow" 2 'n 1 Special Edition". The kit itself was never really canceled; marketing "canceled" the "California Wheels" 2 'n 1 as it was originally to appear, and now it's to be marketed as a "Special Edition". The snap Hummer and GT500 are 1/32 scale.
-
Good stuff; looking forward to the KR and sounds like the Uptown Super Bee will be a lot closer to stock than the previous kit. Interesting to note that by the time these new kits hit, prices for Revell kits will be 30% higher than just a few months ago. The retail price for most of the new kits is $21.95.

I want a ZR1 kit so I can put the motor in a Nissan GTR so it can chase itself round the 'ring -
Nice work! Love that color and decal package

1/6th scale. I voted "real" and quickly found out I'd been had

Ismael, it's looking fantastic. I have an urgent warning for him though; people are having difficulties when doing final assembly; the separate bodyside/rocker area is the culprit; when stretching the body over the rear wheelwells and the bulkhead, it can easily crack the bodywork where the fender/rocker was applied. Mine cracked a bit on one side, others have had the entire part break right off. If he hasn't done a test fit, he should be verrrrrry careful assembling this area! Some have suggested not assembling the bulkhead to the chassis; letting it "float" inside the body while the chassis is installed, and then gluing the seats in from outside vs. before the chassis is installed. Best way to avoid cracking is to weld the part in place w/strong liquid cement, use some styrene strips to reinforce the glue joints, rescribe panel lines as necessary, and test fit while in primer. It sounds horrible, but it's not that bad...just knowing to look for it in advance is the most help.

Revell US has both GT500 and the KR is another variation due later; two issues ago in SA they had a b&w photo of the GT500 next to the Hertz version. The next issue had the KR. -
