  1. Very nice! 8)
  2. That's one of the coolest builds of this kit I've ever seen 8)
  3. I've now seen a third Camaro kit in person w/wheels like the two I have; the sink marks are nothing like Ismael's. Since some examples are far better than others, the fix is at the factory-they need to adjust the the mold cycle. They're likely churning them out way too quickly. AMT needs to know of the problem, some how, some way. Sad that AMT's customer service isn't; you have to do the legwork to return the product to where you bought it and hope that you get a better replacement. Those wheels that have the deep sink marks should have been factory rejects and not sold to the customer. Yeah, some of us find it easier/less hassle to simply fill and sand vs. the hassle of driving/sending a kit for return, but reality is that parts that poor should not have been sold to a customer.
  4. I simply call it "modeler's ADD". The grass is always greener...or something like that. One reason that I attempt to only seriously work on one project at a time. It takes little for a new kit to get attention over one that's already familiar. When I'm building I'm rather manic, as I don't want to lose steam. If it sits too long, it's often forgotten. I went to build a model during Thanksgiving. I ended up spending 2 solid days reorganizing my wheels/tires stash  Haven't built anything since September.
  5. Your wheels are waaaaaaaaaaaay worse than mine! I have two examples and neither have spokes anywhere near that bad. Three of the four on each tree are nearly perfect, just one of the smaller fronts has slightly larger dimples. Guess QC isn't all that great. I need to check the hood fit on my second one, the first one is perfect but I've heard that some hoods are warped. I'd be PO'ed too if those were my wheels.
  6. Maybe some Camaros are better than others; mine has sink marks but they don't look that bad, the wheels aren't terrible, shouldn't look nearly as bad once I get that chrome removed and the wheels finished in a more authentic finish. And their shape isn't that hard to sand the spokes a bit. Yeah, I know...making excuses, but I've seen much, much worse from AMT. I have to build one completely OOB for a review, but I have a second one that I'm going to have some real fun with 8)
  7. Those are too C 8) 8) L! Nice use of the Fujimi engine stand for the roll around too
  8. I had heard that the Lindberg Charger was going to be based on the same tooling as the Testors kits, glad that we'll get the option to build so many variations. I'm going to get a Daytona, police car, and the Superbee SRT-8 when Lindberg comes out w/it. Thanks for the review 8)
  9. Welcome Chris! Even though I didn't have any trouble w/crazing on Revell's new kits, I just do a "standard" coat of BIN over the lacquer primer (Tamiya) and haven't had any problems using Cobra Colors paint. Thanks for the warning, and I'm also glad Revell is trying to rectify the problem. I guess I'm lucky that the paints I normally use didn't cause me problems...I tend to use hobby paints for chassis/motor/interiors, and the bodies usually have a good coat of primer before any auto paint. Using only Tamiya sprays for my Corvette Z06 (Mica Silver/clear) resulted in a perfect finish w/o any crazing; in fact I didn't even use micromesh, I went straight to Tamiya fine and finish polishes and it's smooth as glass 8)
  10. Looks like something worthy of a sci-fi diorama
  11. Even though a '58 Lincoln is far from my favorite '50's car, it would be awfully cool to own a Scion xB for a daily driver and have a '58 Lincoln for weekend cruise nights 8) Anyone ever seen a '58 Lincoln done as a custom?
  12. Like the Lincoln, I find them pretty ugly, but again '58 wasn't a stellar year in design for Ford or GM. They're neat, but I suspect over time I've grown accustomed to them so they're not a slap in the face like the Aztek; which also doesn't seem to even get my attention anymore...heck, if it was (dirt) cheap enough I'd own one...never buy something like that new, but they're supposed to be one of GM's most reliable vehicles. As they say, beauty is in the eye of the beerholder  Oh, and one of my favorite cars of all time was a chopped '58 Edsel which was the inspiration for the Modelhaus chopped Edsel which is one of my favorite builds of all time. Sometimes fugly cars make great customs 8)
  13. I had enough kits years ago, I have enough to last me a few hundred years, and yet I still buy new ones I want. At a much slower pace than before, but I still buy more than I can build. I like new cars, so when there's a new car I like that there is a model of, I buy it. If it passes my "it's cool enough to build vs. anything else I own" test. Or if it's somehow too good a bargain to pass up  I managed to build 19 models in the last 12 months and that's probably kept me building about as many as I bought; but that number is deceiving since I haven't finished a model since September. Started messing w/a few, but nothing done. And many planned. And since I'm mostly out of town until early in January, well...not much getting done but dreaming Hmmm, Hobby Lobby restocks on Thursdays, I have a couple 40 off coupons, and the Magnum or Charger might show up...hmmmm.... Soon I'll have Tamiya's new Ferrari FXX, Fujimi's Porsche Cayman and Ferrari Boxer and Ferrari 599 GTB, Revell's 599 GTB and Superamerica...y'know, I won't mind a bit if all the manufacturers quit making models for awhile...I can't catch up...I'm drowning...
  14. The town next to mine (Doraville, GA) has at least one black Magnum and at least four black Mustang GT's. I've seen a blue/silver Charger GA state patrol car, and the other evening a silver SC state patrol car while I'm away from home. Kinda makes it easy to forget the Revell Impala police car I'll be picking up a Magnum or two when I get back to Atlanta next week, hopefully the police Charger will be out by then.
  15. We see pictures of the '08 Magnum SRT-8 with (to my eyes at least) a much better looking schnoz. http://www.speedsportlife.com/2006/12/19/e...m-srt8-refresh/ I won't even bother to bug Revell about an update
  16. I think they're pretty ugly, but still neat cars and they're not gag-worthy ugly. A whole lot of '58's seemed to suffer the uglies vs. '57 and '59. I like a lot of Lincolns, but the '58-'60 version is probably my least favorite. The gorgeous '61 Continental was quite a breath of fresh air 8) Sure wish that someone would make a few missing Lincolns, such as the Mk. III, Mk. IV and Mk. V. Resin would be fine with me I would assume you have the Modelhaus '58 Lincoln?
  17. I wonder if anyone has a diecast Revell 300C SRT-8 to measure; with a plastic one coming from that tooling next year that fascia might work w/the Magnum, and it (diecast 300) does have the small chin spoiler, but I don't know how "cartooned" the overall shape is to know if it would be a good donor for either the 300 Touring or to make the AMT 300 kit into an SRT-8.
  18. Looks great 8) Color/wheels go well together. Ditto on the comments of the kit in general. Wish it didn't require so much surgery to stuff modern aftermarket rims, but it can be overcome. If anyone has a Maisto Mercedes SLK lying around, one of the later versions w/5 spoke rims, I've found them to be the most accurate rendition in scale of Ford's new 18" Bullitts used on the Mustangs.
  19. Looks great 8) I really enjoyed building my S600 (non AMG) coupe. Loved how the engine fits together nicely w/o any glue when you're test-fitting. You can't get much better in a Tamiya kit than one of these. I miss you guys down in Atlanta. Can't wait to get back and back building.
  20. Thanks for the sneak peak/review. I figured they'd fix those sink marks; I saw them on the test shot and would have assumed...oh, forget it  I'll be looking at trying to make a Euro-spec 300C SRT8 Touring if I'm feeling inspired at the time and if it looks like the AMT front clip won't be too hard to splice in.
  21. Love it! 8) 8) 8) 8)
  22. The HL here in Greenville SC had two sets of the TE 37's and Kranze, so they did restock this week. I snagged a Road Warrior car and left the wheels, I've got plenty of those wheels and don't need to hoard any more  This particular HL has always had a good selection, unlike the one(s) near home.
  23. I'll have to check out the HL here (I'm still out of town while my Mom is in the hospital), last week I snagged the only set of Kranze LXZ's for 30% off, but I don't have a way right now to get a coupon. I'd snag the Interceptor if I can find it, and the HL here is pretty good compared to the one closest to my own home. Last year they had a 50% off sale between Xmas and New Year's, but they also had 50% off Fri/Sat after T'giving, which they didn't do this year. Not sure if we'll see 50% off on kits anymore.
  24. Those both look really cool! Y'er killin' me, I started a "rat" pickup based on a resin body a couple months ago, and haven't had a chance to work on it...it's a '57, I have to do a few things to backdate it. The resin kit came out before Hasegawa did their pickup, and at least it depicts an earlier truck. I'm even using Hasegawa's gates (donated by a friend who built one w/o them 8) ) I found a great website, I think it's Samba.org or something that has given me a ton of inspiration for projects like these, and your models look fantastic.
  25. Not sure if you mean "club" as in using this forum as an online 24/7 kind of club, or joining or forming a club in your area. From my perspective, a club really is a great way to meet other builders in your area to share techniques and make friendships that can last years/decades. I've been involved w/my local club that's seen several big changes over the years, made many great friends, and we have a blast putting on our show every year. Definitely benefits to that! The best thing is when someone new shows up and then before you know it they've become some of the best builders in the club; seeing other models and striking up friendships w/the others opens so many doors and their models really show the progression, which is sometimes amazing in a short amount of time. Yet there are always some builders that show up out of the blue w/amazing work that they accomplish all on their own, and they don't really seek involvement w/other builders, it's just their own personal artistic expression.
