2010 GS Corvette
Zoom Zoom replied to Scalefinishes's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yeah, with them canceling the '08/'09 promos and mysteriously dropping the previously-announced '62 Corvette plastic-from-diecast kit, it doesn't look promising. The new GS is pretty cool, though there are a lot of whining Z06 owners due to it. The gills are a neat detail. -

I would love to know if Revell plans to update any of their C6 kits into the Grand Sport and/or ZR1 variants. -
Paint over clearcoat?
Zoom Zoom replied to lioniz's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
What paint are you using? Spray bomb or airbrush? Repairs like that are not at all uncommon. What's more uncommon is someone willing to fix it vs. stripping it all off and starting from scratch! Congratulations! I wish more guys wouldn't give up so easily. Obviously the repair is easier if you are airbrushing. I've been known to mask off an area to repair it so that only that spot gets recoated w/color, I blend it, and then reclear either that section or the whole model. Just depends where the repair is, I make repairs in scale much like they make on 1:1 cars. I hate stripping perfectly good paint. 99% of the time a repair ends up invisible and takes a fraction of the amount of time (and materials) of starting over. -

The upside? No spam while the site is broken. Yay -
Cool car, I hope they have a 599XX run at Road Atlanta at a future Challenge race like they did the FXX EVO deal this past weekend. Not a real race, they're glorified "open track" sessions.

Dupli Color Primer, What up wit dat?
Zoom Zoom replied to chris coller's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It's also possible that it's a problem w/the resin itself. How well did you clean it before spraying? Dawn isn't strong enough for some mold releases, but if there's any silicone contamination it would be causing fisheye problems. -
Sweet, you nailed it!

Wheels'a spinn'n, steering's a turning!
Zoom Zoom replied to FujimiLover's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I prefer the wheels to steer but not to roll, but I don't obsess over either because it's more important that the car sit square on four wheels and at the right height. -
Sometimes fitting the wheels over a polycap or an axle into a polycap requires more oomph than expected. I'll bet your wheels aren't fully seated. I looked at the instructions, and that's what I suspect, unless there's something in the assembly that resulted w/the brake discs being mounted outboard of where they are intended. Here is Fujimi's page on the GTO, and the wheels seem to be correctly situated on their prototype and buildup: Fujimi Website GTO Photos

How do I edit this line...
Zoom Zoom replied to Foxer's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You have to go to your original post, click "edit" (lower right corner, to the left of "quote" and "reply") and then choose "full edit" and the title and description lines and everything else from the post will be available for you to change. -
Sorry, but what you see is what you get, no uptops. A friend and I ordered Citroens together, he also got a 230SL. It's nice, but the metallic paint isn't as good as the solid colors on the Citroen (but for $11 who can really complain?!). I saw a couple other Quattroruote cars with a vendor at Road Atlanta last fall, they varied in appearance. I wasn't thrilled w/the dark green Alfa Duetto Spyder or the red Fiat 124 convertible, but their VW Beetle is very nice as is the old Fiat 500. I'm waiting for online dealers to get the BMW 1600 and Fiat X1/9. I know the BMW looks decent, the X1/9 hasn't been shown yet. They've done 3 Citroens so far (DS, 2CV, Dyane), and I really wish they'd do the SM. Let's hope...

Slick, clean, and a great color too!

What to use to strip off ACRYLIC PAINT??
Zoom Zoom replied to chris coller's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Rubbing alcohol, Windex, Tamiya acrylic thinner, diluted ammonia...Tamiya acrylic is easy to remove w/o using heavy artillery (Super Clean or oven cleaner). -
It came out nice!

The following blog is pretty good for showing what's out or what's coming in 1/24 diecast. Check the various album links in the blog for pictures of models from each company. Tom Tanner has posted lists of what's coming on Ferrarichat, and I think the magazine itself has a site for the models. Diecast 1/24 Blog Quattroruote Collection 1/24

Nice work, further proof that Fujimi really nailed the shape and most details.

Cars you wished that was in 1/24
Zoom Zoom replied to ericmaxman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The Genesis coupe is getting a lot more attention than the Accord coupe ever got; they're gunning for the Infiniti G37 coupe. RWD platform, much more expressive styling. They're going after the enthusiast market, Accord coupes are going for the secretary market -

Zoom Zoom replied to ericmaxman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It's okay, clean lines but nothing exciting or inspiring. Better than the sedan (especially w/o the bulging taillights). Typical Accord I would think a Hyundai Genesis coupe would elicit a lot more positive response. It has far more character than the Accord coupe. -
What? How dare you call me a novice

Three people "say" model, but there's only one vote. Okay

Those Pegasus wheels will look good if you make sure the ride height isn't too high and the wheels don't stick outside the fenders, as the photo of Marco's model above proves. It will take work, but it will be worth it. You will not like the look if you merely put the Pegasus wheels where Revell engineered the axle stubs to go. The kit is engineered for tall profile tires, and OOB the car sits too high in front (again w/stock tall tires) because the front coilover shocks are too long and force the front hubs and A arms downward, making the front ride height too tall. Cut coils from the top so the struts don't provide that interference and the stock ride height is normal, w/a slight rake to the front. Modify the brake discs to fit the wheels, and modify them to mount further up on the front hubs and rear axle are the easiest ways to get it lower than stock, you can also cut the rear coils a little but not a lot. Then you have to modify the axle retainer stubs on the Pegasus wheels (by removing material from them) as they will be too long and make the wheels stick out.
