Revell Germany New Releases for 2009
Zoom Zoom replied to larrygre's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Yes, I do believe they did that one too! I want a second SWB so one can be built as a roadgoing car, the other more of a weekend racer. I lucked into a very reasonable SWB in November at our NNL, but I'm greedy and want another -

I read far too much into the title of this thread I'll go back and hide in my bunker where I belong. Carry on! Oh, great idea for the model -
Revell Germany New Releases for 2009
Zoom Zoom replied to larrygre's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Unless that VW bus is a barn door ('68/newer), there's nothing on the list that interests me, especially the Desperate Housewives Edition tarted-up Lexus SC 430 aka the Ferrari California. As for Italeri Ferraris, I've talked w/someone close to the situation, they could happen, as of early November nothing to report and no guarantees. From what I gather the intention is to hopefully renew Ferrari licensing, do new "has to look like a plastic kit" boxart to satisfy licensing, and get a few of the unique-to-Italeri Ferrari subjects out on the market again. Personally I want to see their 250 SWB, 275 GTB, and California Spyder back on the shelves. Harold Bradford has a nice set of 275 GTB alloy wheels and proper tires available for a nice upgrade from OOB. -
Two-toned paint schemes masking question.
Zoom Zoom replied to GMP440's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
I use something similar to Bill; Tamiya tape for the nitty gritty (or sometimes Bare Metal Foil for really intricate masking), and then Glad Press 'n Seal to mask off everything else. The Glad stuff is nice because it sticks (but not permanently), so it's a lot easier than monkeying with newspaper and more tape. -
Noice! Would make a nice replacement for the Lincoln, wouldn't it?

I haven't bought from him, but he has plenty of happy customers. A few people have had shipping problems (outside of the UK and US) and he's apparently not good at communicating via email even when people have had problems, but apparently he does pick up the phone. If you need paints, you might as easily contact Scalefinishes here on the board, he'll mix up nearly any color and already has many of the colors offered by Hiroboy. Make sure the check with Strada Sports here in the US; they're in Missouri and have free shipping deals and carry a lot of detailing items that overseas websites like Hiroboy carry. Strada Sports

It's just a German term for sedan, I think. Google the name and it just shows a regular Trabant on the Wiki page. I have to wonder about the descriptions on two of them; new tooling for a T1 VW bus or Trabant just doesn't make sense. Revell has an old full-detail bus kit, and Hasegawa did one most recently and it's been in current production for a long time. With some variants reboxed by Revell US. Revell AG did a Trabant in the early 90's, I can't fathom retooling a Trabant...reissue, yes...but tool a new one? That's crazy! Maybe I'm just mad that they haven't reissued/retooled their VW Corrado A kit that they have the tool inserts, but no way to run them in any molding machines because the company that did the kit had proprietary machinery, and is apparently gone. So no way to reissue, and I suspect they'd have it in China by now if they could reissue it economically. Too bad about the 612 straight reissue. They'd get a lot more mileage from a few upgrades to interior, wheels, roof to make the Sessanta. They could also use Challenge wheels in their 599 kit to get more mileage from it. But what do I know? The Ferrari world is already questioning the California Spider; at the worst time in economic history since the great depression they've doubled their production capacity for a car that's a "Desperate Housewives" Beverly Hills real estate agent cruiser selling to mostly badge-sluts, many who have never had a Ferrari before. Ferrari owners are already feeling the pain of resale value; their sterling above-sticker resale has evaporated and they're all selling for sticker or far less, especially used.

Thanks for the info. Luc! I love Ferraris but I won't get the California simply because to my eyes it's a ghastly looking beast that screams "Lexus" I would be amazed if the 612 Scaglietti is one of the newer "Sessanta" versions w/the clear roof, 2-tone paint, and the 20" Challenge wheels. Why another new-tool T1 VW bus when the T2 barndoor has never been done? Both Revell and Hasegawa have done plenty of T1's already. A T2 would be worthy of a new tool, though they also list the Trabant as new and I can't fathom them retooling a kit they've already done.

That's just a picture I snagged from a Google search, I don't own the real model

Let's see if this works:
-
I think that Imperial was from a show called "The Hero"...but not 100% sure. Definitely an AMT kit.
-
It was well over 20 years ago; mid to late 80's from my foggy memory when they carried Johan kits and sho cases. Johan kits were cheaper than AMT/MPC/Monogram/Revell stuff, back in the day. Back when Wal Mart stood for supporting American business and American made products...
-
They're worth $2.88 apiece. That's what I paid for them back when Wally World sold 'em, and they were bought to be built

Plans always change, but here's some of what I want to get done in '09: Hornet SC 360 (Missing Link resin w/a chassis upgrade) Digger 'cuda Pontiac GTO Ram Air 6 concept (diecast kit; will repaint. Some exterior details are better than Polar Lights, including headlights/taillights) Revell '09 Challenger Revell GT500 KR (with a correct intake ) 06 Shelby GT (white w/silver stripes and GT-H hood) Charger police car (diecast; haven't decided on GA or SC markings yet; may build a second when the plastic kit arrives) Chevrolet Astro 1 showcar (started) Cobra 427 (started) Revell Ferrari 599 GTB Italeri Ferrari 275 GTB Fujimi Ferrari 250 GTO Fujimi Ferrari F430 Scuderia Something for the 24 Hours of LeMans build *and of course already I'm updating the list, I started a custom '08 Nissan GT-R that I want to finish *

Now that's a great looking Buick

Revell 1/24 Ferrari's
Zoom Zoom replied to curt raitz's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
They're pretty simple to lower, at least the Superamerica was..all I did was whittle down the big axle stub so that the wheel assembly could be glued in a lower position. There's plenty of material to whittle away and still have a bit of a stub to make the glue joint stronger. I used custom wheels on my 612, and had the chassis warp problem too. The 360 Modena isn't good; just spend the money on the Tamiya Modena and never look back. The others are good enough and so much less expensive than the Japanese kits that if you have a good eye and building skills you'll have a nice finished model. -
48 and 96 hour builds? That's a lot of time! Try building a LeMans racer during the 24 hours of the race! Everyone I know who joins in the fun has a blast! And the finished models are generally quite well done. Of course the 24 hour builds are planned ahead, and we allow a few preparations. Therefore it can be completely "grokked", and all planned out. Lay out all the tools/materials and go for it. When working with a group it's 10X more fun. No problemo if you don't understand, but don't automatically dismiss it if you haven't seen it for yourself!

Looks so real I think it's a trick Or a gift

Testors Lacquers
Zoom Zoom replied to Daniel Peterson's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Testors and Tamiya lacquers are so mild they do not need any primer. People will make all kinds of claims about having to use a serious lacquer primer under these paints. There are enamels out there that are far hotter than Testors or Tamiya lacquers. Duplicolor primer is far more industrial strength than necessary. Plastikote is easier on plastic. Tamiya primer is the best for scale fidelity and it's surface is far smoother. I wetsand primers w/2400-3600 grit micromesh because I want the color coats as smooth as possible. Depends on how much bodywork you're doing, final color...but the Testors lacquers cover really well, far better than even Tamiya. If you don't have much of any prep work beyond polishing out mold lines, you shouldn't need primer unless your topcoat color needs a primer. -
That came out really nice

Not only is it real, it's real ugly That is some seriously bad "styling".

Subaru is out!
Zoom Zoom replied to Scalefinishes's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It didn't seem to affect Audi quattro sales after Audi used WRC to promote the quattro and then ditched the series. -
Subaru is out!
Zoom Zoom replied to Scalefinishes's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
In the past week Audi exited ALMS (aside from running at Sebring), Porsche dropped out of LMP2, Honda dropped out of F1 and AMA road racing, Suzuki and Subaru exited WRC. More shoes are going to drop as the world economy slumps. Toyota is next on my radar to drop out of F1. Wouldn't surprise me a bit to see Chrysler and GM exit NASCAR. They get less out of NASCAR than Subaru got out of WRC...
