  1. Looks like a year well spent. The paint on the T-Bird is extraordinary! I like what you did with the pickup too; like the original builder could look at it and say, "That looks like my model, but I don't remember doing such an exceptional job it! "
  2. Well, Pete, you've amply demonstrated that with skill and intent, the materials are almost irrelevant. One of the best sounding guitars I ever played was built from used pallets.
  3. Gorgeous paint, beautiful chrome! And, oh my, that interior is awesome! How did you do the seats? It looks too fine to be flocking. And what paint did you use? That red is (dare I say) killer.
  4. "Welcome back" from another re-newbie. Looks like the fingers still remember what to do. No criticism warranted, regardless of your status. As for feedback; one word: BMF. O.K., technically it's three words: Bare Metal Foil . Much more convincing than brush painting chrome trim. Also, try misting your painting area (not the model) with water just before spraying. This gets most of the airborne dust and lint to settle so it doesn't end up in your paint. And, once again, welcome back to the hobby.
  5. Stunning, as usual! I always look forward to your posts, and they never disappoint me. I'll say it again, and it will be repeated here often: that is one gorgeous paint job! (which one? Take your pick)
  6. Add my name to the list of those who love the the Hudson 'vert. It gives me a benchmark to aim for with mine. The entire "Class of 2012" is stunning, it's just that I have a bias for the '40s & '50s Classics. (and you do put the class in classic)
  7. I'm looking forward to watching how you do this. I have a '48 Woodie that I plan to do something similar to, although I'll be using cedar cigar wrappers for the large panels.
  8. Merry, Happy, Joyous, Rootin'-Tootin' (insert holiday of choice)Day to all!
  9. BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH, I'm OLD. The only thing that came to my mind was "Speed Racer". Beyond that, I have absolutely no idea what you guys are talking about.
  10. AWESOME! I love the stance and the MUD! By the way, where did you get the top-loaders?
  11. Congratulations on your well deserved recognition. Of course, now you are obligated to post a tutorial on your award winning paint technique.
  12. This is a great kit: lots of options, and everything fits well. I put suicide doors on mine also, which required piecing the door panel together with part of the interior tub. The door sills were a little tricky; I'll be interested to see how you handle them. Judging from what you've done so far, this should be a treat to watch!
  13. I haven't received my Special Interiors issue yet. Has someone finally addressed the proper thread count for the herringbone twill in the 58 Henderson?
  14. Actually, the definition of inflation is an increase in the money supply (IE. printing money out of thin air). This, of course, results in higher prices and devaluation of the currency. Bear in mind, that prior to the (illegal) establishment of the Federal Reserve in 1913, The buying power of the U.S. Dollar had been absolutely stable for 200 years. Now it's worth slightly less than what a nickel would have bought back then. Thank you, Ben Bernanke (and all your predecessors)!
  15. Geoff, my experience with the Alclad polished brass is that it doesn't look very "polished". It could be, however, that my surface preparation was not up to par, so this might be something to bear in mind.
  16. I just picked mine up this past Sunday, and you are making it very difficult to not tear into it immediately!
  17. When I got the issue with John's Bentley on the cover I was certain it was a picture of the real thing. I still can't find any evidence in the photo to convince me otherwise.
  18. This thread is so true and so telling. I recall receiving a Patton tank for Christmas in '69 or '70. I commandeered the kitchen table immediately after breakfast and was "finished" by the bed time. This included a canvas mantlet cover and bed rolls made from paper napkins. Fast forward to March of 2011 and my return to the hobby. Since that time I have managed to complete SIX whole models. Meanwhile, occupying various corners of my work area are several manifestations of "overcomplicationitis"(Good one, John) including a recon' tank that had to be set aside until I could work out the proper wiring for the radios ! Also amongst my "round toit" collection is the vehicle that brought me to this forum back in February; A 1930 Bentley, which still isn't finished. So, yeah, things change....pass me a paper napkin, will ya'?
  19. I have mixed feelings about this. First; that's an amazing car. Ugly, but amazing. On the other hand, I can't believe anyone would do this to a '63 split window; THE most beautiful 'vette ever produced.
  20. I got up this morning and found a six inch wide strip of snow about one inch deep along the north edge of the house. Nothing else. Anywhere. Nothing on or under my truck. Nothing in or around the trees, under the bushes...nothing. Just that six inch wide strip. Bizarre.
  21. I'm a C.N.C. programmer / machinist at CoorsTek. Not a day job, though; I work swing shift. I also repair guitars on the side. Prior to this I've done everything from custom home remodeling to warehouse management, all the while bouncing in and out of aerospace machining (This industry is notorious for lay offs as DOD contracts run out).
  22. Started the week in the eighties, low fifties today and expecting some white stuff by the time I get off work tonight. Time to break out the snow tires!
  23. Reminded me of this: at Colorado Conclave, last year I think.
  24. Heck, I'd buy three of them!
