  1. looking for the modern style aluminum covers that have the chevy bowtie and chevrolet letters..... ive seen them a few times, but cant remember where they were from..
  2. I agree with Jonathan....Tamiya spray cans are very easy to use, and you get a pretty good finish right out of the can. Testors Lacquer system painys are also pretty easy and give a good finish, but I find more overspray from these then the Testors enamels or Tamiya's.. you could also look into the Duplicolor auto touch up spray cans from autozone, or other parts store, they may be easier to find than hobby paints, since there is usually an auto parts store every few blocks..
  3. I am going to agree with Bill on his family observations....heres my example: I am divorced and remarried. I have 2 kids from my first wife, and none with my current wife. I have custody of my kids every other week, including weekends. My daughter, who is the oldest at 7, has been raised around cars both before and after the divorce. I brought her home from the hospital in a Camaro to help carry on the family tradition that my dad started with me. Of my daughters 7 years on earth, there is about 1 year total that i havent had a camaro in the garage, and models in the closet, and out on the work bench. Just last month my daughter asked ME to take her to the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Races, and informed me that she would love to go to the NHRA races later this month( which i proceeded to go out and get tickets for with a huge smile on my face). And just this month alone we have assembled 2 Revell snap kits for her, at her request!! Going to the races and building models were her ideas, that she picked up from me. So to back up what Bill is saying, there is that factor of having an influence at home to get kids involved in the hobby. Now, my father never built models, it was my uncle who got me into building. When i was young, I would would see him 2-3 times a year, and I would always stare at his built collection in his display whenever I was at his house. Later in life, late childhood, early teens, when we lived in the same town, we would build together on a weekly basis.
  4. Happy b-Day Bill !!!!
  5. thanks Marc...now to figure out which style to use... btw, I forgot to check psf before posting this, but they have the non-outlaw cowl hood for this car as well...
  6. there are actually 3 releases of this kit... release 1 is the pro-modeler GT version with flat hood and hidden headlamps, orange or red on box with pro-modeler label on box. release 2 is the yellow car on box, it is the cobra version with shaker hood and scoop, and non hidden lamps release 3 is the current one with red car on box, same as cobra version release 2 btw. when kit was changed from gt to cobra, revell needed to remove the side louvers from the quarter panels but didnt, so they will need to be sanded off the be correct for a cobra version.
  7. looking for a non-outlaw style cowl hood...or even a '67 corvette style stinger hood???
  8. This is the newly, re-released california wheels edition of the '66 El Camino.... it is pretty much a straight reissue from the previous release of this kit with a few notable exceptions. the kit now includes the wheels, tires, disc brakes and chrome tree from the '66 Chevelle wagon(5 door handles!!!, but more on this later). the kit is a very well detailed model, but I cannot comment on the buildup due to my original release still being boxed up in my closet stash. the decal sheet contains disc brake detail, gauges and license plates, and also includes what appear to be very well done flame decals depicted on the box. The decals also include all scripts as well. the model is molded in white styrene, thank god, and appears very well laid out in terms of detail. the firewall heater box, radiator support, oil filter, fuel pump, ignition coil, steering box, interior dome light, and heater hoses are all seperate peices and very well done. the rocker mldgs, door handles, and wiper arms are also seperate items and included on chrome tree. the hood is the non-SS variety, for those of you who want to build a stock non-SS version, or kitbash to build a non-ss chevelle wagon, with factory hubcaps and small tires from original release included as well. the interior is a platform style build that includes the aforementioned dome light, as well as seperate side panels, seperate chrome steering wheel horn ring, a very well molded seperate 4 speed console with tach, and a 2 peice dash that thankfully the dash pad is seperate. the chassis/ suspension includes seperate full dual exhaust, seperate upper a-arms, and a typical revell 1-peice lower a-arm/engine crossmember assy. the rear susp consists of 3 peice rear axle assy with the lower half containing the lower control arms , and the upper half bring the upper pumpkin, and a seperate rear diff cover, the shocks and rear sway bar are also seperate. there does appear to be quite a bit of flash on the parts trees, but very little flash on the body, with very minimal mold seams. the flash on the parts trees is managable, but will require extra clean up time. now, on to the chrome tree, which, is in my opinion, horrible!!! it it quite honestly the worst chrome plating job i have ever seen from a current revell kit in probably 10 years. the chrome appears to be crazed like someone has put too much paint on a model. since I have already started building the kit, I will attempt to get revell to supply a replacement chrome tree, and will keep the post updated as to the results. if I am unabble to obtain a replacement, I am going to rob my original issue kit of the chrome is better, or use the chrome as is if i cant, since I do not have an airbrush, and cannot spray alclad.
  9. picked up the revell snap '34 coupe for my daughter, and the revell reissue '66 elky and '37 ford for myself.
  10. I think is looks great!! spoiler could go either way, as it balances out the front spoiler, but still looks good without it.
  11. HAHAHA!!! I havent seen that book in years!!!!! I lived on Oahu when I was 4-7 years old (parents were Navy), and my parents had that book on the bookshelf, and I used to steal it and read it...
  12. Took my kids to the LHS tonight, picked up a Fujimi Porsche 928GT for myself and a Revell C5 vette snap kit for my 7 year old daughters first build, which we finished tonight in under an hour. She enjoyed every minute of it, and is already begging for another kit. looks like I am helping create the future generation of modeler!!!!
  13. now that is sex on wheels!!!
  14. wow Uwe, looks great, cant wait to see it finished!!!!

  18. picked up some squadron sanding sticks, tamiya masking tape, a Revell '65 Chevelle california wheels kit, and a Model King Torino stock car kit.
  19. Hi, I'm James, and I'm addicted to styrene dust!!!! Lets make a not so long story not so short......I'm 30 years old, married to my 2nd wife, Briana, and have 2 kids from my previous marriage. My daughter is 7 and we are headed to the LHS next weekend when I have her next to pick up her first kit, on our way to the craftsman truck races, which she asked me to take her too, so I think I've raised her right. My son is 2, and as often as i catch him playing with the stuff on my bench that he shouldn't be playing with, he's a future modeler!!! I have an uncle thats about 12 years older than I am, and my family blames my modeling addiction on him, as he has been building since the 70's, and every time we would got to his house, I would sit in front of his display and stare at his completed builds for hours. It is also this same uncle , who in about '86 or '87, got me my first kit, the MPC Pro-Street Mustang II with scenic backdrop. I didnt paint a thing on it, and used atleast half a tube on it, but it was fun. fast forward some 21 odd years, and with a short drop-off in my modeling time in my teens to play with both women and a 1:1 '79 Z28, I currently have over 300 unbuilts in my stash consisting of mostly '60's and '70's musclecars, with a few modern cars, exotics, street rods, trucks and foreign kits thrown in. I am what you would consider an average builder, but I enjoy it. I am a car guy with a huge lust for Camaro's( I have owned 7 already at my ripe young age), especially '70-'73's and '78-'81 Z28's, and I am currently hot rodding a T-Top, Tuned-Port, 5 Speed '88 IROC into a weekend toy to take the family out for fun in. I have lived in Las Vegas since '98, and hated EVERY minute of it. I grew up in Oregon (otherwise known as god's country, which is not Texas as some would lead you to believe ), and the wifey and I plan to transfer with my job as an insurance adjuster back home to the Salem, Oregon area sometime early next year.
  20. I have been using Tamiya 2 part polyester putty for my last couple builds, and it seems to ghost real bad.... I just got a 3/4 full tube of the "Piranha Putty" today from a 3M rep for free, and cant wait to try it out.. he was using it in a demonstration for 1:1 plastic bumper repair for my job as an insurance adjuster, and it seems to sand real nice....
  21. looks awesome!!!! and the stance is perfect!!
  22. welcome to the board...
  23. I ran out of white duplicolor primer, and everyone in town doesnt seem to stock it anymore... I have a body previously primer with duplicolor sandable grey, and it will be painted with duplicolor engine enamel, can i use the krylon white primer i already have under the enamel and over the primer??
  24. thats for the insight into the Fujimi EM kits... I have the Fujimi Enthusiast '76 Porsche Carrera RS and the '84 Toyota Celica kits in my stash to build later when my skills improve a bit...
