  1. Trumpeter front headlights look better, too...Meng's are very flat. They each have tradeoffs, fit and finish appears better on Meng, rear hatch openings better on Meng, but Trump/Mag has better wheels, headlights, ride height, overall shape. Initial much higher price for Meng's a big turnoff. I have everything on order for a Trump/Mag, for whenever I have time to build it.
  2. Eh, fenders still look too tall. Here's Meng, Trumpeter/Magnifier, real.
  3. I don't know if I'd go that far...the Meng doesn't look that much more detailed than the Trumpeter/Magnifier. The interior looks nice, but there's a lot of chunky plastic bits in the engine and suspension; for instance, check the carb linkage, what a mess! I'm leaning towards the Magnifier kit with the Icon tires/spare wheel and KA detail kit. It's about the same amount of money but you seem to get a lot more out of it.
  4. More pics here: https://www.themodellingnews.com/2020/10/preview-details-of-mengs-12th-scale.html Unfortunately none from a low angle to show if they fixed the front end. The fenders on the rendering look like they took them from a 330 P3/4.
  5. I spotted this today, I wonder how these pieces look. https://www.shapeways.com/product/GHHVQ7WWM/13p5-scale-gt-40-parts-small?optionId=61212618&li=marketplace
  6. Wow, the Tamiya looks much better...assuming all of those pieces fit together well.
  7. Just curious, where'd you order it from? HRM's been extremely slow at fulfilling large kits recently; still waiting for my FIA Cobra which was ordered last May.
  8. Wow, never figured I'd see this one come to life! After reading an article on the car in one of my Motor Trend Classic magazines, I thought it would be an interesting basis for a model. Seeing that MFH makes a bunch of Cobras, I thought I'd give it a shot and sent them an email in December, 2011. I forgot all about it, but today saw this little teaser shot on their website: A second shot confirmed that it's indeed the AC A98 Coupe! It does say something about a "Lightweight Series," not sure if that means it'll all be resin, or curbside, or what. If it's the latter, I wonder if it could mate with an AMT 289 Cobra for the innards. Link to MFH's site Link to info on the car
  9. Historic Racing Miniatures makes a nice engine for the Fujimi kit.
  10. Do you mean a 289 FIA? He makes one of those already. As for a 'standard' 289, there's not much above and beyond the street car.
  11. Are those photoetch wires in the pic? If so, surely they're not included at that price.
  12. Revell re-released its 427 Cobra....other than the wire wheels (which aren't really historically correct), any big changes or updates?
  13. Historic Racing Miniatures also makes Halibrand Kidney Beans....a couple of versions, not sure of the differences though. Kit's probably still worth picking up IMO, for the tires and velocity stacks. Disappointing about the wheels though.
  14. Awesome story, thanks for sharing! I'm guessing there are many, many similar stories where people sold their Cobras for $2-4k and are kicking themselves to this day. For those interested, Exoto's having another sale - one of the Daytona coupes, one of the GT40 Mk IVs (which I recently bought and was amazed - the paint's gorgeous, detail fantastic, and flawless fit and finish), and three of the racing Cobras: Daytona: http://www.exoto.com/s/1/ProductDetails.aspx?Language=en&CategoryId=158&ProductId=1266 GT40: http://www.exoto.com/s/1/ProductDetails.aspx?Language=en&CategoryId=164&ProductId=1319 Cobras: http://www.exoto.com/s/1/ProductDetails.aspx?Language=en&CategoryId=296&ProductId=1901 http://www.exoto.com/s/1/ProductDetails.aspx?Language=en&CategoryId=296&ProductId=1902 http://www.exoto.com/s/1/ProductDetails.aspx?Language=en&CategoryId=296&ProductId=1903 http://www.exoto.com/s/1/ProductDetails.aspx?Language=en&CategoryId=296&ProductId=1913 Looks like Exoto's coming out with a 1:18 version at some point - another one for the collection! http://www.exoto.com/s/1/ProductDetails.aspx?Language=en&CategoryId=296&ProductId=1893
  15. You're right on that point - they don't offer the $98 deal on all cars for sure.
  16. You should definitely sign up for their emails - they send them often and will include the sale items in them so you don't have to hunt around on their site. They had the pretty maroon w/gold stripe 289 for $98 recently but looks like it's all gone.
  17. Huh? They're constantly on sale, with Cobras and Daytonas often at $98. Such as this one right now: http://www.exoto.com/s/1/ProductDetails.aspx?Language=en&CategoryId=296&ProductId=1901&utm_source=iContact&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Exoto%20Inc.&utm_content=
  18. Oops, looks like prices are back to normal. But if you sign up for their emails they have sales constantly. Just wait for another one where they have the Cobras for $98....normally they'll have the black hardtop street car, some of the racing versions, and some of the Datyonas at those prices. Looks like they also are introducing an FIA body style car too...another one for the list! Street Cobras: http://www.exoto.com...AttributeId=404 Racing Cobras: http://www.exoto.com...AttributeId=296 Cobra Daytonas: http://www.exoto.com...AttributeId=158 PS: I asked Harold at Historic Racing Miniatures about releasing a kit of the AC A98 Coupe raced once at Daytona...he said he'd been thinking about it, so you could encourage him!
  19. Nice! Which is your favorite type, the 260/289 or 427? If you don't have any Exoto 260/289s in your collection, many of them are on sale at the moment for $100. They're a great value at that price. Also, do you happen to have the giant GMP 1:12 289? Those are just so, so nice. I think they're better than the Kyosho 1:12 427. Looks like prices have gone through the roof, I lucked into a perfect blue one for not a bad price earlier this year. I also have a red preproduction version which is pretty neat. The only Cobra I wish was out there is a really nice 1:18 427. Yat Ming has their cheap one, Kyosho sells a similar one with better paint and wheels and a few bits, and the Shelby Collectibles version is more correct in terms of the shape, but the detail's not on the same level as the Exoto 260/289.
  20. Cool! May I suggest, once this is complete you use the AMT '59 Chrysler Imperial kit to build this car: http://www.hotrod.com/featuredvehicles/hrdp_1107_1959_chrysler_imperial_speedster/
