  1. Wouldn't THAT make a cool little shop truck with a 4-cylinder Ecoboost engine and a six speed gearbox swapped in ? A natural for an old Jag IRS unit too.
  2. This is one of those things that comes down to "how bad do you want to do it?" Depending on your photo editing capabilities, you could take a straight on shot, raise the contrast to stark black, and reduce it to the size you need. Again, depending on your printer's resolution, you could print it on clear decal film in black or an additive-color gray, but like the man said, no white. That could look pretty good on a lightish color car. Or, you could go to all the trouble to make your own PE parts. Plenty of reference material out there on doing it. Here's a little kid demonstrating making PE circuit boards. Same technique can work for PE parts too. Fun with modeling !!
  3. Oh yeah...some colors that will have you saying "man, I've got to build something just to paint it THAT color !!". Many of the pearls have very small, more scale-correct flakes than Testors metallics and some Duplicolor products, too.
  4. My furry companion, reminding me that if I don't get back to work on this, I won't be able to drive it. The cat's been with me for about 12 years, was a stray that wandered in after being dumped in the neighborhood, moved in after a couple of cans of tuna. She just recovered from a bad infection that required surgery and almost killed her. Some of my non-"pet-people" acquaintances just couldn't understand why I'd spend money on a "free" "stray" cat. She's an indoor-outdoor creature, still gets in fights (which is where she got the infection) and looks forlornly out the window if I keep her inside for her "protection". I understand her need for freedom, and her desire to have a warm, welcoming place to come back to.
  5. Looking great, Bernard. Clean chop. nice work on the back window, LOVE the color...and thanks for the info on how you got it. Everything you're having to deal with regarding the zee and the channel job is exactly the same as building a real car. This is always one of the things I try to remind people...younger and older builders alike...you can learn a HUGE amount about real cars, how they operate, and how to modify them from building models.
  6. My personal all-around favorite of all the cars of its genre. Great, well-balanced car as built by Chebby, lovely tight-winding engine, huge potential to be better.
  7. Looking great. Nice work keeping all the fiddly bits straight and square. I'd completely forgotten that this wild thing was mid-engined.
  8. Sorry about your dogs, Dan and Tom. I agree that people who think animals have no emotions are just unaware idiots themselves. Spend time around animals (with your eyes open and your brain turned on) and it's pretty obvious they think, feel, dream, and are self-aware (and smarter than a lot of humans I know). Plus, they give you pretty much unconditional affection with no hidden agendas...well, except for wanting to be scratched behind the ears, have a warm place to sleep, and get fed fatty snacks. Seems like a good trade to me.
  9. Almost forgot. A cast iron intake manifold and Rochester 4bbl from a '64 Olds Starfire just came in to replace the 2bbl units on my '63 88 convertible. Got a core distributor and a Pertronix setup, plus a set of NOS rocker shafts and rockers. Soon as she's runnin' happy on the 4bbl, I'll swap to the triple 2G setup, aluminum Offy manifold. Still working on how to do a roller cam in this thing without breaking the bank. Getting the engine up & running, sounding pretty, is (hopefully) going to keep me inspired to do the rest of the car.
  10. Holy cow. I can't believe that kit is really that bad. Man. Damm. Good to see you doing something creative and cool with it, rather than just putting it through the chipper.
  11. Who knew?
  12. Beautiful model.
  13. NICE !! Just goes to show ya, a well-chopped '30 coupe looks good no matter what wheels you put on it.
  14. Works great for me running Win7 and Chrome, Firefox or IE. It's a Google search term...are you saying your Mac is somehow blocking Google searches ?? Here's one relevant thread I just pulled up...http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/?showtopic=87001 Here's what looks like a good link... http://www.fireballmodels.info/custom_pricing.htm Here's a 2008 writeup on the Testors decal system... http://www.cybermodeler.com/hobby/decals/tes/decal_tes_decal.shtml The truth is out there.
  15. Gotta be worth at least 10 horsepower and a couple MPG.
  16. Which is better...orange juice, tomato juice, apple juice, or grape juice?
  17. The Model T was built in Manchester, England, from 1911, I believe, using local suppliers for body components. I assume those cars would be RHD.
  18. Cool. One of my favorite bizarro Detroit spaceships.
  19. A great many nail polish colors are lacquer too. There's a huge color selection, different from store to store. I've been picking up bottles of it for $.99 at the thrift store to experiment with. And if you're a little insecure in your masculinity, you can get your girlfriend or wife to buy it for you.
  20. You can put the distributor in any old way you want and number "one" on the cap becomes the terminal the distributor rotor happens to be pointing to when #1 cylinder is at TDC firing position (as long as the distributor shaft engages the oil-pump drive). All you have to to from there is to get the rest of the wires in the proper sequence ("firing order"). As Force says, you just need to allow sufficient swing or rotation room on the distributor housing so you can set the timing without having the vacuum advance can (if the engine even has one) interfering with something. Simple as that sounds, I've seen "mechanics" crank and crank and crank an engine for hours, with it popping and spitting out the intake...scratching their heads like chimps and mindlessly swapping wires around. Sometimes, it's really a good idea to actually UNDERSTAND what you're doing.
  21. The Hellcat blower is not directly visible in the engine bay. Though made by Japan's IHI, the installation is visually unique to the Hellcat. Not terribly hard to scratchbuild something that looks like this, and to do the other visible mods to make a passable model. PS. One of our clients took a ride in one a few days ago with a factory rep. Word is that it's really more like 735HP. Impressive.
