I built this using the Tamiya kit, It basically fell together and is one of the best fitting kits i have built to date. I painted the body with Tamiya Light Metallic blue (TS-54). I built it pretty much box stock with the paint job and chrome being the only differences. I love the chrome look with the metallic blue so I muscle car'd it up a bit and am very happy with the result. Many thanks for looking, Any and all feedback is welcome positive or negative. Phil.

thanks guys, Daddyfink - the body paint is Tamiya TS-52 candy lime green. I sprayed it over a white primer. -

thanks for the positive comments guys, really appreciated. Steve - The wood grain in the bed was molded as part of the kit so i painted it desert yellow then drybrushed it over with a darker brown. It took a bit of patience but i was really happy with the result. I wish it was my skill painting the woodgrain but sadly i'm not at that level with my painting techniques ! maybe one day. as far as the wheels go they suited the build better than the box stock ones provided but ideally i would have used some that were in between in terms of style and size. thanks again for looking and the comments. -
I built this using the ERTL kit for a friend as a gift. It was my first go with weathering using the little Tamiya weathering kits. Any and all feedback and comments are welcome. I am new to the sci fi models (this being my second effort) so i would really appreciate any tips and advice. thanks for looking - Phil

This was built using the AMT kit, I built it box stock with the exception of the wheels whitch i added as the included wheels were a bit boring and looked wrong with the metallic green paint. The paint was tamiya light metallic green. I'm pretty happy with the results overall but the wheels are too big in my opinion. I will live with them as i had no better options available. Thanks for looking and as always any comments and feedback are welcome both positive and negative.

I am not speaking from experience here but i remember reading something about somebody using a pink primer in order to get a really nice red colour on a ferrari build. I cannot remember where i read this so take it with a pinch of salt but it could be worth looking into.

I have also heard that windscreen washer fluid can be used with tamiya paints as a cheap option but i doubt it would solve my issues with the blobs and lumps. I did however manage to get it working well by just sieving the paint through a piece of grill from a Tamiya castrol celica kit ! after doing that the paint flowed through the airbrush like a dream !

which ones do you need ? the link goes to a google image search with a few different styles. -
cool, thanks for the help, i'll go out and get myself some cheap thinner and give it a go. The Tamiya X thinner has been pretty good for me with none metallics but hopefully the cheap lacquer thinner will improve everything. Do i need to look out for anything when buying cheap lacqeur thinners or should i just get the cheapest one available ? thanks again - phil

Hi all, i've been getting to grips with airbrushing recently and have had good results so far with Tamiya paints, until today when i tried to airbrush with x-31 titanium gold. I have mixed it with more thinner than usual because of the metal flake but my airbrush is still spitting all over the place after a short time. Despite stiring the paint well, I checked the paint jar afterwards and found a lot of "globs" of paint in the bottom. I think this is my problem as my airbrush has been thoroughly cleaned twice to no avail. Do you guys do anything else different with tamiya metallic paints to prevent these "globs" ? I am thinking some kind of filter should be used when transfering the paint into the airbrush jar. If so what do you all suggest i use for this ? many thanks in advance for any help and advice phil

count me in, i'll probably do something from saints row 2.

welcome, this forum is a great place to start, check out the tips, tricks and tutorials section of the forum for a wealth of knowledge. also there is a Q&A section where any questions you ask will usually be noticed pretty quickly. I have found both to be a massive help with improving my skills and learning allsorts from the basics to the more advanced stuff. Good luck getting started I look forward to seeing some of your work.

thanks again Geoff, i'll let you know how i get on once i get started (and probably bother you with more questions that arise !) which brand of thinner do you use ? i currently have a humbrol enamel thinner and a tamiya acrylic thinner, will i need to invest in a different type ?. Thanks for the offer of painting the body but i am determined to get this right however long it takes, thanks again - Phil

brilliant, thanks a lot, what thinner and ratio do you suggest I use with these paints for airbrushing ? or would buying the aerosol be a better option (bearing in mind I am very inexperienced with using my airbrush) I always thought getting paint mixed would be expensive but the prices are great ! thanks again.

I always ask for feedback when i post a build in under glass as I think it is the best way to learn. I do think having a rookie section for the forum could work quite well, I have done a few bad builds in my first year of building that i deemed unsuitable to post in under glass and if we had a rookie area i would have posted them and maybe learned a lot more from the feedback from people. Its just a thought and i don't know how a lot of people would feel about it but i think a rookie section with beginners tutorials and a place to post lower standard builds would be a great help for a lot of beginners. It could also give people who are interested in starting to build a less intimidating place to ask simple (to us) questions and get a bit of confidence about taking up the hobby.

Absolutely brilliant build, it looks amazing. I just started my first Tamiya mini today and i picked up a lot of great info from this WIP. Once again thanks for the help !

Hi all I have been looking for a good match for the Yellow/Green paint on Mr Beans mini and am struggling to find anything close. I have limited options in terms of paint brands where i live and am reluctant to buy online as i find it hard to judge the colour. Have any of you guys built a "Bean mini" before ? if so what did you go with ? Ideally i'd like to mix my own but i am pretty clueless with paint mixing. Thanks in advance for any help and suggestions, all are welcome. Phil

Are You a "One & Done" Builder?
phil-east replied to Casey's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
i'm yet to build any kit twice being a relative newcomer, but i have just bought another general lee kit as i did the first one without knowing what i was doing and i really want a nicely built General for display.
