. If memory serves, Marc Nellis uses one as well, and he seems to produce some mighty nice paint jobs with his.

Anyone know anything about Chrome-Cast Resin?
Monty replied to Monty's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Oh, believe me, in hindsight I think it's hilarious. I just happened to be reading it at 2:30 in the morning (insomnia) and it seemed like such a great idea that I couldn't wait to see if it was still available somewhere. Give yourself a pat on the back for your efforts. -

The Spotlight Hobbies board agrees with you. I'm sending this to myself: -
I was reading an old Model Cars magazine (April 2001) last night and I found a one page article on this stuff. According to the article you can cast whatever part you need using their materials and the piece will come out with a chrome finish. They cast an old Cadillac grille and it looks at least as good as kit chrome, although the pics are in black and white. The article lists an address in Wisconsin, but no phone #. My Google search didn't turn up anything of value, so if you have any info I'd appreciate it.

I've been wanting to do a '70 Charger, but I don't want one with the R/T "scoop" at the leading edge of the door. See 1st pic. The two resin bodies I've read about so far are either listed as "R/T" (Modelhaus) or are depicted as an "R/T" with this piece already molded to the door. Anybody else got a regular one? (See 2nd pic)

Marc Nellis recommended these guys when I was looking for an authentic HEI distributor. -
AMC engine metallic blue substitue
Monty replied to drodg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Maybe you should find an auto parts store that carries engine enamels and grab a can of AMC blue. You may need a special primer, as it may be "hotter" than regular enamels. ' -
How would you say this one compares to the Heller kit? I've been told the Heller version is virtually unbuildable unless you're a professional builder. Nice job on yours, BTW!

AMT 1966 Mercury Cyclone GT...restomod of a 44 yr old kit

Sorry I'm late, I was over at the Superlative Store trying to find an adjective that would be appropriate for your car. This may take a while... Gorgeous car! -
AMC engine metallic blue substitue

I'm going to respectfully disagree with Mark on this. The two Pontiac engine colors we're most familiar with are the silver-blue and a lighter blue. Here's a side-by-side pic of each. http://www.jbp-pontiac.com/images/93080024.JPG Conversely, the AMC engines were kind of a medium blue metallic as seen here: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/81/1970_AMC_Javelin_390_V8_RamAir_engine_bay.jpg I'd say experiment with a mix of Humbrol Baltic blue and Boyd's True Blue. Question for the Ford experts: Wasn't this body style only available as the "XL"? In regard to your question about colors for this car I did a quick Google search and found this http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c166/Randy1955/AMT1969FordGalaxieXLb.jpg I think the color works very well. Growing up, we had two '69 Galaxie convertibles and a friend of my parents had a beautiful XL in Ford's light yellow, so I'll be curious to see what you decide to do with yours.

It's a beautiful build. Eventually I'm going to have to step up to HOK paints. I owned a red '73 Fastback Mustang for about a decade & they still catch my eye. In regard to the clear lens in the tail light, here's how Ford designed 'em: http://bradbarnett.net/mustangs/timeline/71-73/73/Taillight.jpg

Here's my toy. I've loved C3s since I was a kid, and the 1980 was my absolute favorite for styling. http://www.sarkiscollisioncenter.com/sitebuildercontent/sbsimages/misc/show_image.html?linkedwidth=actual&linkpath=http://www.inmgroup.net/sarkis/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/corvetmvc-007s.jpg&target=tlx_new Unfortunately, my current lack of employment means I'll probably have to sell it. Where's the 351C? Good enough to power the Boss 351 Mustangs and De Tomaso Panteras. I understand there's a good one in the new Revell Mach 1.

Do any resin casters offer these wheels?
Monty replied to Monty's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks! I'm sure 99.9% of the people on here are honest and reliable. No one wants to be thought of as "that guy". -

Allow me to quote myself: 5-spoke versions of these: http://www.driftproject.com/media/fun/et_wheels4.jpg The wheels depicted were made by ET in the mid 80s (roughly). -

Monty replied to Monty's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Fair questions. Here's why: 1) When I decide to build a '57 Vette, It'll be the Monogram kit, not this one. I have no interest in the MPC kit; other than the wheels, there's not much else I'd want from it. The kit may be common, but hobby shops will still have it priced @ $15.00 & above. Ebay sales will typically tack on $8.00 - $10.00 shipping to whatever the price of the kit is. 2) I have an on-going issue with a fellow "trader" on this very Board who agreed to a deal I posted, PM'd me with his ship-to address, but has yet to respond to any of my PMs since then. My package has arrived at his end. Don't know if or when I'll receive mine. That's not a blanket incrimination of all traders on the Board, I'm just looking to do a direct purchase of these wheels without paying for a whole kit, paying shipping costs that are higher than the price of the wheels or getting stuck in another trader's quagmire. See why I just want to buy 'em? -
Testors Modelmaster acrylic paint
Monty replied to mackattack's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
The last time I airbrushed any of the Testors acrylic paint was 10 years ago, but I made the mistake of trying to reduce it like an enamel. Needless to say, it was way too thin. If memory serves, there's a brief message on the back of the bottle about not reducing the paint. I haven't tried any of the acrylic primers, so I can't advise you on that. However, there's a great trick I learned on the Spotlight Hobbies board: Get a pack of white plastic spoons and try everything that comes to mind on them. They're dirt cheap, the curvature actually helps in assessing paint, and if you screw up, who cares? Wanna try lacquer over enamel? SPOON! How 'bout acrylic over an enamel primer? SPOON! Wanna see my favorite cartoon superhero? http://meaninglessguy.files.wordpress.com/...ick-graphic.jpg One guy over there did a pictorial based on spoons painted with Tamiya metallic spray paints (lacquer) over dark, medium and lighter colored bases - proving that you can virtually triple your color choices. Stick a fork in me. I'm done talkng about spoons. -
Impressive! I really like what you did with that oily engine. May I ask what you used to do that?
