Scale I Build

Found 7 results

  1. My next build is this hot rod that my daughter picked out for me ! She choose the colour also, it will be Testors (#1629C) Custom Red Metal Flake. I think it looks like candy apple red. TCB, Adam
  2. This is a car that I had my eye on 18 years ago. I bought Revell's 32 Ford Highboy kit and wanted to build a replica. Life happens and it was mothballed ...... until now !! I have these flame decals from a Revell '37 Ford Coupe kit that I was thinking of using, either that, or I stencil my own flames on there ? TCB, Adam
  3. Some of the crazy projects appearing on these pages lately have inspired me to share this one here...the general idea is to create a '60s custom-rod referencing a bunch of 1:1 1960s hot rods and customs, like the Invader, Asteroid, Manta Ray, Strip Star, Cosma Ray, and others. There will be a mild "surf" theme, but nothing super outlandish. The plan is for Indy-style independent suspension front and rear, and hopefully an opening gullwing door. This project has been creeping along for about 3 months now, so I'll post a few photos to bring things up-to-date. The victim: After pushing the cabin back, filling in the nose, bracing the body: Front fenders cut out and replaced with concave sections of sails from a model sailing ship: Hood roughed in, passenger-side A-pillar removed in anticipation of creating a partial wrap-around window, custom taillight made from Edsel grille and CD jewel case plastic: There are a few more details not shown here (ie, chromed headers will exit from the fender cove), but that pretty much covers it so far!
  4. With long term projects still on the bench, I needed to "finish" something. This is box stock, with detail work such as opening up the exhaust ends, intakes etc, and then just trying to do a clean, yet quick build. The idea was to build it quick, like I would have in the 70s, but with hopefully more skill that I possessed then. I did cut the silly dollar sign out of the grill. Body was shot with Testers stainless steel burring metalizer, and buffed out.
  5. Nice rerelease from Lindberg/Round 2. I plan on doing mine as a GI Joe Cobra Commander hot rod, in the red and blue scheme. It fits the old 3 inch figures perfectly. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nwQPwxMouKo

I have built so many of these, i decided i needed to do something completely different. I started with late model Aoshima Kranze wheels, and made the rest to fit. There are a lot of subtle modifications, and the paint is Purple Pearl nail polish.
  7. Who doesn't love late '60's/early '70's, totally off the wall, OTT show rods? Well... I'm kind of lukewarm about them myself, but there are some pretty cool ones out there. The designs of Ed Roth and Tom Daniel are among my favorites, and the Ice T... well, I can't say it's one of my faves. But as a chronic kitbasher, I can say it has some really cool parts that could make their way into other models. As you can see, in typical early Monogram fashion, there isn't too much to it. The big bonus is the parts are nicely molded, and the chrome looks good. The wheels resemble the ones found in the old Monogram Paddy Wagon kit, and you get a pair of those big, wrinkled, 'non -directional' , slicks. I'm also really fond of the twin, side mount, crescent-shaped fuel tanks, which mount just aft of the front tires. The bummer is you'll ruin the plating joining the two halves together and eliminating the seam on the fuel cap. And the kit has lots of other little doodads I find very tasty... the quick change rear diff, the ladder bars, the aformentioned slicks, and I'm really thinking of grafting that roof onto something! I've seen these built up, and they do look cool (oh, jeez...) if you like the style. Mine won't end up looking anything like the box art model, though.
