StevenGuthmiller Posted March 18, 2015 Author Posted March 18, 2015 I would have been honored to take my drivers test in one of these. I took mine in a '78 LeBaron station wagon! Steve
Ramfins59 Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 (edited) Now that is an interesting color combination... I have one of these cars in my TO DO pile for the "Class of '59". I love how your model is coming along Steven. Edited March 18, 2015 by Ramfins59

I love how your model is coming along Steven. Have fun removing the mold lines on this one Rich! The mold lines run right across the double fins! A real joy to get into all the nooks & crannies! Steve
Ramfins59 Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 Thanks for that heads-up Steven. This car is "down the line" in the TO DO pile so I have some time to worry about those mold lines.
Guest Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 Now that is diffrent. The metallic does not show in the pics.
StevenGuthmiller Posted March 19, 2015 Author Posted March 19, 2015 Now that is diffrent. The metallic does not show in the pics. It should be more prominent once clear coated & polished. Some sun light should help also. Believe me, there's a TON of metal flake in this paint. The nice thing about MCW metallics is the scale of the metal flakes. Not always real evident at first glance, which is the way they should be. Steve

I'm just pretending that the original owner owned a coral & gray '55 Chevy & really liked the color combo, so he had this one spruced up by the dealer. Steve
dino246gt Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 That's looking beautiful already, I just love that body style, great color choice!
Tom Geiger Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 Very nice work as usual Steve! I'll be watching your progress! Here's my '59 promo. What's cool about this one is that it's the same colors I remember my Uncle John's car being back in the day. Although I'm pretty sure his was a four door sedan. Nobody left alive who would remember. I always relate cars back to my life and experiences with them. My Uncle John and Aunt Rose would babysit me often when I was a tyke. My favorite activity was following the city bus down the boulevard. So my uncle complied, following the bus and stopping behind it at all the stops so I could count who got off and on. Somehow I found this amusing when I was three.

Somehow I found this amusing when I was three. It's been kind of slow going with my building lately Tom, but I'm slowly making progress. I've been a little pre-occupied lately with a 1:1 '69 Grand Prix that has been in storage for more than 25 years! They're about to tear down the building where it's been stored, so the wife & I decided now is as good a time as any to begin a restoration on it. So my free time has been filled with things like finding a good shop to get things like the engine & transmission re-built & getting a tow lined up to haul it 100 miles. Steve
Tom Geiger Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 (edited) Cool Steve! Nothing like a little push to get you moving on a project! I once had a '64 Valiant convertible in storage. I went there in the spring to find out that the idiot I was renting the space from had pushed it outside in the fall because he wanted to use the space for something else. The car had a bad top and the interior was sogged out over the winter. Of course I was pretty angry, especially since I was paying to avoid the same damage he inflicted on the car and he kept cashing the $50 monthly checks. He just shrugged his shoulders and said he lost my phone number.. well the checks all had my full address on them and I was in the phone book. Edited March 21, 2015 by Tom Geiger
StevenGuthmiller Posted March 21, 2015 Author Posted March 21, 2015 You don't even want to know what happened to me in the past few years with a very nice 1958 Cadillac '62 series coupe I had. Had it stored in a shed in cold storage for many years in the small town where I grew up. thought it was pretty safe as a lot of other people stored their cars & boats & such in the same building. A couple of years ago I started to hear rumors from friends in town that the Caddy was in bad shape. I went to investigate & found that the roof of the building had begun to collapse & it had been leaking right over my car for the past several years. Not a word from the owner of the building!! I could have killed him! Well, needless to say, the car was destroyed! too much water damage to ever be restorable. Such a waste, & an easily preventable one, of a very nice car. Steve
om617 Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 Will be nice to see it with clear on. Metallic paint base dont pop with no clear on,misleading is to say the least. Sorry to hear about the Cadillac,i think i would catch fire if it was me.
StevenGuthmiller Posted March 25, 2015 Author Posted March 25, 2015 Just a little progress report to let you all know I'm still alive! Spent the weekend polishing & got about half the foil on in the past couple of nights. Boy, you wanna talk about fun? try foiling the trim on these fins! Steve
Lunajammer Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 Foiling definitely requires patience and a steady hand, but it sure is the icing on the cake when it's done and you're doing a bang up job.
StevenGuthmiller Posted March 25, 2015 Author Posted March 25, 2015 Thanks Mike! It's still one of my favorite parts of a build. Not so much because I like doing it, but just because of how much a project changes when it's done. That's when I start to really get excited about the build. Especially when it's one of these chrome laden beasts from the 50s! Steve
slusher Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 Beautiful foil work and finish on your Pontiac Steve..
James2 Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 I would call this a beautiful exercise of patience, polish and foil!
