Last week, I was in the basement looking around, and I noticed this forlorn AMT '63 Ford XL Hardtop in a bag. I polished it up, and re-did the bare Metal Foil.

I built this one when AMT first brought out the Prestige series of kits. I have at least 7 '63 Ford XLs in the stash waiting for me to do something with them including 2 original convertibles, a Square Roof Hardtop, which I am restoring as a full detail car , using the guts from a '60 Starliner, and an original annual '63 XL Sports Hardtop. I painted it with good old Testors Model Master Paint, in a color called Champagne Gold, which is remarkably close to a color that was on the real car.

Very nice, Ron. I remember SAE's build article on this and how to foil-cast the "GALAXIE" lettering for the trunk on the fastback using the formal-roof car. I'd like to give that a try sometime.

I have a photoetch set with those letters that I could have used on this one. Funny the convertible and the box top has the G-A-L-A-X-I-E across the trunk lid. I have been considering turning the box top into an XL 4-Door Hardtop, in Black with a Black interior, with wire wheel covers. One of the convertibles is going to be Rose Beige, with a Rose Beige interior. A Friend of mine had that very car when I was a kid. It was beautiful, and I have the MCW paint for it.

Looks great from this end, I really like those 63s. Planning a full detail with the promo square roof and the 60 kit. Let me know how that goes if you beat me to it, LOL.
