exesivefire Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 This poor thing never really knows what it wants to be.. The only thing consitiant so far has been the engine I plan to use (SVO 4 banger from the 1:24 monogram/revell kit. Started as a roadster pickup then I made some progress on the chassis, stretched it out a bit and found a Jimmy Flintstone body and then the project stalled... I liked the coupe body, but never really was pleased with the proportions. I couldn't figure it out. Recently I picked up a old 30 body as part of a gluebomb kit for $2!! I cleaned it up a bit and gave it a shot, I think we are on to something now! Progress will be slow as I have a few other big projects going on, but this will be a good one to tinker with when I need a break from the others.
crazyrichard Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 hmm i dig it !! i must say the chopped 5-window coupe also looks good to me .. just my thoughts on the looks > i felt with the 5-window chopped body i could see it shiney and all painted nicely .. the non chopped green body .. i see more in a weathered look .. maybe weathered paint and a faded logo on the door .. just what the pics made me think of
exesivefire Posted April 15, 2015 Author Posted April 15, 2015 I love it! Is that chassis scratch built? Yes it is. hmm i dig it !! i must say the chopped 5-window coupe also looks good to me .. just my thoughts on the looks > i felt with the 5-window chopped body i could see it shiney and all painted nicely .. the non chopped green body .. i see more in a weathered look .. maybe weathered paint and a faded logo on the door .. just what the pics made me think of I might do a milder chop on the 30.. not sure yet. Either that or find a replicas and miniatures body maybe? save the full roof for something? I know I don't really like how aggressive the chop is on the flintstone body
JTalmage Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 (edited) I'd chop it. but not as harsh as the JF body. BTW, the frame is amazing. I really like the design of it. Where did you get the rear crossmember over top of the axle, and even the axle itself? Edited April 15, 2015 by JTalmage

afx Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 What kit is the engine out of? I know you said the SVO kit but which one?
JTalmage Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 I'd say the Revell "streetburner" SVO, or the Easy Builder Thunderbird TurboCoupe would have similar if not the same engines as each other.
nkempf95 Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 Wow, I thought that chassis came in a kit! Great work

wayne swayze Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 I love rod builds, so I'll be watching this. Super nice work on the frame!
Skip Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 I like the Stock Roof Height, just setting there with nothing else done it reminds me so much of an early 60's East Coast Hot Rod. They used to Channel them so low that they had to leave a little on the top or else they couldn't get in them let alone drive! For more information on East Coast Style Hot Rods check out "Roddinig and Re-styling" there are a couple other East Coast Rodding magazines, but "Rodding and Re-styling" is the easiest and cheapest to find at swap meets or on eBay. Have fun with this one, has the potential to be way cool!!!
High octane Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 Looks like a great start on your upcoming build Andy, and you'll be a "happy camper" when it's done.
Dirty Dave Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 What kind of induction are you planning to slap on there? Going to retain forced induction?
exesivefire Posted April 17, 2015 Author Posted April 17, 2015 Oh ya for sure Turbo or maybe a custom supercharger
DrKerry Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 I'd go custom supercharger myself. That would look killer on the side of it. I did one for a 57 Vette gasser I'm building. Looks good on it!!!!
hjracing Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 This sounds.like another great model from you! Makes me remind a Hot Rod Magazine project.on the early 80's that mounts a turbo VW Rabbit engine on a Hot rod they make it as.an experiment to create a new.trend!
MuellerFace Posted April 19, 2015 Posted April 19, 2015 Amazing work! I just started messing with the 3 in one truck kit. I want to use both of the body's in the kit and scratch build two chassis. Seeing precision work like this really gets me amped up to do more!
1930fordpickup Posted April 19, 2015 Posted April 19, 2015 You are killing me with this Mr Brooks. I like every body on that frame but the unchopped the best. This is how I have been leaning to do my 30 model a truck if I do not sell it. Hopped up 4 banger.
