cobraman Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 Thought about putting this in the truck section but since it is mostly car with just a truck body thought it would be ok here. Wanting to build a model that resembles a pic of something I saw here not long ago. Starting with the 'lil Coffin" for the chassis and drive train. The Hasegawa kit will supply the body and at least some of the interior. The body will need to be shortened and you can see by the blue tape how much will be cut out of it. Won't be an exact copy but this is the look I am going for. Not everybody's cup of tea I know but there is something about it I just think is cool.
chunkypeanutbutter Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 Kinda sad to see a VW go, but I wanna see where it goes!
bismarck Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 (edited) That's pretty cool!! I think I saw something similar in a "Car-toons" magazine once. I like it!! Edited April 17, 2015 by bismarck
cobraman Posted April 17, 2015 Author Posted April 17, 2015 Ok, I got to cuttin'. Can't go back now. Will be more cutting up front but will have to wait till I mock up the chassis and engine.
Kennyboy Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 It's Kustom and Kool! So you know I am following!!
Mooneyzs Posted April 18, 2015 Posted April 18, 2015 Ray... I think this is a totally cool idea. I love what you have done so far Its looking good. Keep up the great work.
1930fordpickup Posted April 18, 2015 Posted April 18, 2015 More of a VW Ute and it looks good so far.
Pim Posted April 18, 2015 Posted April 18, 2015 Awesome what is the kombi kit like I am looking into getting one
cobraman Posted April 18, 2015 Author Posted April 18, 2015 Not a bunch of progress but I did manage to get the side walls cut to size. Mine won't be quite as short and the car I am using as a guide.
cobraman Posted April 19, 2015 Author Posted April 19, 2015 Got the body in primer today. Still more to do until paint. I also cut a piece of Bass wood that will be stained and placed in the bed. The fact that the wood will cover up the cut that is in the bed has no bearing on why I am doing the wood. You say you don't believe that ? You got me. That is 100 % why I am doing it. : )
jacoballardtattoo Posted April 19, 2015 Posted April 19, 2015 I don't blame you on the wood with the texture of the bed hiding the cut would be pretty difficult.
Nitrozilla Posted April 19, 2015 Posted April 19, 2015 Ray, I love the bizarre and off the wall stuff. This is gonna' rock. I had a visual of you sanding between and over those ribs. You were not smiling. Now you are and so am I. Good call.
cobraman Posted April 19, 2015 Author Posted April 19, 2015 Thanks. No way was I going to try and get that ribbing right. On second thought maybe it would not be that hard as they do provide strips that fit in the channels. I would just need to get the tops smooth. Still, not going to do it.
FASTBACK340 Posted April 19, 2015 Posted April 19, 2015 Reminds me of Dr. Cranky's drag car, but different enough to make it unique. Love the idea! More!
