I don't feel this is "Off Topic" so I'm posting it here.

Can anybody who has used Photobucket AND Fotki recommend one over the other?

For the last 10 days I've been having problems saving edited pictures on Photobucket and am thinking of switching.

I've written to Photobucket and they say this is a known problem with some users and that they are trying to solve it - thought I'd try Fotki in the meantime.

I've been a Fotki user forever. I have paid accounts. I manage two accounts, my own personal site, as well as the TSSMCC / NNL East site. I like their format and ease of use.

There was a rocky road a while back, when they had some issues but that seems to be solved once they moved their servers from New York to off shore. I haven't had any issues in more than a year since that occurred.

I don't like Photo Bucket at all. I've never been an account holder, but when someone posts a link to their albums, if it's Photo Bucket I won't even look. I don't like their interface at all. When I am looking at thumbnails and decide to click on a photo to see it closer, when I click back, it takes me to the beginning of the album, not where I left off. That alone makes me dislike it.

See our albums:

It's all a matter of personal preference. One is no better than the other, just as chocolate ice cream isn't any better than vanilla, or vice versa. It just depends what you like. Tom doesn't like PB; I'm just the opposite. I've used PB for many years, never had an issue, and never have paid a dime (it's free! :D ). They do offer a "premium" paid account, but in six or seven years of loading up my PB albums, after probably thousands of images, I'm still at only 20% of my allotted "free" capacity. Can't beat that.

BTW.. most people who have problems with their photo hosting site are actually having problems with their web browser, not with the photo hosting site itself, whether it's Fotki, Photobucket, Picassa, Pinterest or whatever. And I'd bet the majority of those people are using IE.

Fotki is what I use. Never used Photobucket however from what I have seen you can post lager images from Fotki.

I use Photobucket. Never a problem (though some images got shuffled when they did some site mods a year or 2 back), large images work fine, easy to use (from my perspective, anyway). Surprised I use more bandwidth than Harry, but my next-level-over-free account is only $2.99 / mo., and I'll probably NEVER exceed the available bandwidth for as long as I live.

There used to be annoying ads running during uploads, but since I've switched to Chrome with Ad-Block, they just don't interfere anymore.

I agree with Harry and Bill. I've been on photobucket since 2007 and I never had a problem with it. It's always been reliable and I never have to worry about it...

I use both.

I like Fotki more for saving my photos. I like the lay out better for certain applications.

Whenever I refer someone to my photo folders, I send them to my Fotki page.

I do however, like Photobucket for posting photos on forums such as this.

Just what I got used to I guess.

It depends on the use. I like looking at albums on Fotki. I think their layout makes for a better album to look at. However, I like Photobucket for saving pictures and posting them on forums such as this one. So the way I see it, Fotki is a much more polished site where you can present a collection of photos while photobucket is more of a tool.

Thanks for your input guys.

I guess I'll stick with Photobucket and hope they can sort the problem out. I don't think it's at my end - they don't seem to think so either.

The only reason I even have a photo hosting account is so that I can load up there and use PB as a "holding pen" and post the photos here. So seeing PB as a "tool" is exactly the way I use it. Good point, Alberto.

there is another alternative that has not been mentioned...

flickr.com is another hosting site that has a 1tb free account option.

I have photobucket and flickr accounts, I don't have any complaints with my accounts, haven't tried fotki because I haven't needed to.

I've always been a photobucket user. There was a time when they updated their format that I didn't like it and refused to log in. But it's became user friendly again. Funny though... I was only 15 percent full on my free storage before. I joined this forum.... now I'm 35 percent lol!!!!

Oh, and Fotki is blocked at work for some reason.... which is highly annoying.

I have a flickr account as well as the other 2.

Don't use it much, except for sharing photos with other flickr users.
