cobraman Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 Next up will be this Corvair. Not 100% where I will be going with this but I am thinking mild custom.
Crazy Ed Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 You're just a building Machine ain't ya?! Well if you're in the Phoenix area it sure beats going outside this time of the year........
cobraman Posted June 16, 2015 Author Posted June 16, 2015 You got that right ! I think it hit 109 today. At least the paint dries quick ! : )
slusher Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 Glad your building a Corvair. i have one in silver being rebuild and need to get back on it. 93 here today Ray and with humidity feels like 100 very sticky. Want to trade
hjracing Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 Mild custom! Mild custom! I'll keep an eye on this one!
cobraman Posted June 16, 2015 Author Posted June 16, 2015 Got my feet wet on this build. I want to run larger tires all around and some a tad larger on the rear. I found these flairs in my parts box and modified them a bit to fit. I used the Dremel to enlarge the wheel wells before adding the flairs. Slung a coat of putty on them to mold them to the body. More to do. I also made a little spoiler for the front end out of sheet plastic. I am thinking maybe a Targa roof but not sure. Yes, no ? What do you guys think ?
Sixties Sam Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 The flares will be nice! I've always liked the Fitch Sprint roof that comes with those Corvair kits, and the rear deck lid with spoiler and air vents. Just a couple thoughts. Sam
Pim Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 cool ray flairs look great should fit a porsche engine in it
cobraman Posted June 17, 2015 Author Posted June 17, 2015 Thanks guys. Carl, you may be right about the flares but I think when I mold them better and shoot the paint and stuff a tire in there I am hoping it will look ok. We shall see. : )
carl63_99 Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 Looking forward to watching this build. I don't have time to work on my models these days, but here's mine in progress. I've got six single-barrel carb setup, redone belt and pulley's and late Camaro rims set up in addition to drilled out headlights and shaved handles. Mild custom. Carl
cobraman Posted June 17, 2015 Author Posted June 17, 2015 That's a nice looking "Vair". I had a real 67 years ago that got totaled. It was a pretty cool little car.
slusher Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 Thanks guys. Carl, you may be right about the flares but I think when I mold them better and shoot the paint and stuff a tire in there I am hoping it will look ok. We shall see. : ) Ray, first picture looks good, i am wrong the second is a close up. i like the idea..
cobraman Posted June 19, 2015 Author Posted June 19, 2015 Managed to get the flairs molded pretty good so I shot some primer and wet sanded it. Then I put on 3 coats of Lime Ice. Still needs to be cleared and BMF'd.
PatW Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 Good looking Corvair. I also have one on the shelf and looking at a circuit racing version, with turbo if I can find enough engine pics to use for the installation. I see some of you have hot weather, it's just 50F here in the UK with snow forecast in Scotland, a little later than normal!
cobraman Posted June 21, 2015 Author Posted June 21, 2015 Here is a mock up with the chassis almost done. Not sure about the stripes I put on but wanted to break up all that green. Stripes are from the 70 Torino kit.
DumpyDan Posted June 21, 2015 Posted June 21, 2015 I like, Steve is a big Corvair fan. He has lots, maybe this will inspire him to start building one
bonehead23 Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 (edited) Corvairs! I LOVE 'Em! This is why I have the Chezoom "set", tow car, trailer and race car (Thanks to Rouns 2 for sending me extra decal sheets!), an altered using the Mustang chassis, and a convertible..plus at least a dozen Corvair-powered rods and a blown dragster....and i await delivery of yet another '69 so I can attempt a white-with-blue-stripes Yenko Stinger, inspired by a Jay Leno's garage episode on them posted here...but now, just look at that green goddess! Nice work and very inspiring. Go 'Vair! or go Nowhere Edited June 22, 2015 by bonehead23
