martinfan5
Tamiya is releasing curved masking tape, will come in three sizes, 2mm,3mm,5mm, release is set for this month, and if ordered direct from Japan, expect to pay around $3 per roll, so its just a tad bit more than the normal tape. cobraman
That's different. Could be handy in some applications.

TooOld
Is it really shaped like that , or is it designed to be able to "stretch" around curves and maintain it's shape ?

Monty
Thanks for the info, Jonathan. If it's that flexible and still works as well as their regular masking tape, I'll definitely be buying some.
martinfan5
Here is some info on it from Hobby Search , I missed pre ordering at HLJ, so I have to wait tell they take orders again, or find another place to order from. - Can be put on a smooth curve without any wrinkle, it is PVC masking tape with flexibility. - And available in three types of 2,3,5mm. - Use a 5mm If you divide coating a gentle curve. Because there is a width less likely According curve. The tighter parts of the Earl and then use them to distinguish 2mm width, the 3mm width. - None of the length of the tape is 20m. ( This is a machine translation. Please allow for possible misinterpretations in the text. ) And this is from Tamiya USA A soft resin material is used, allowing the tape to adhere in a curved line while preventing paint from seeping into masked off areas. Use of narrower tape is recommended for sharper curves. Edited June 26, 2015 by martinfan5
Quick GMC
It's like pinstriping tape. It's not curved, but you can contour it to shapes. The Model Master stuff is terrible, so hopefully this will be better.
Darren B
Sounds good will have to try it out but I have had great experience using the regular tamiya tape using an exacto with two blades in it and can curve pretty hard, but maybe this will be even better.......... horsepower
Or you can go to your local auto body supply store and get 3M fine line tape that is available down to 1/16" width and it is excellent for making a very sharp curve and comes in 60 yard rolls for less than $20. I wish it was that cheap! There's 2-3 sellers on eBay right now asking for between $20-31us per roll! Yes just 1 roll! The cheapest seller wants nearly $30au to ship it!! The other 2 want $30-40us to ship to Australia??!! WTF!?

All the way to Norway is 8 or 9 dollars for an entire model kit size box.
Hemified71
So why not order straight from HLJ. All the way to Norway is 8 or 9 dollars for an entire model kit size box. I didn't say I wouldn't but Martinfan has already mentioned HLJ has none in stock. I'm not worried about the actual price of the tape more so the price they want to charge to ship/post or Internationally!!
crazyjim
I'd like to get some of that tape.
mrknowetall
Stevens has it listed on their site, with a $6.50 MSRP (for all sizes).TAM- 87177 Masking Tape for Curves 2mmTAM- 87178 Masking Tape for Curves 3mmTAM- 87179 Masking Tape for Curves 5mm
crazyjim
I don't think Stevens sells to individuals. Their website shows the tape as TBA, so they don't have it in stock. Hobbylinc appears to have it in stock for $4.81. Edited June 26, 2015 by crazyjim
Hemified71
I managed to find an on-line store that had all 3 sizes for $3.50us each... I purchased all 3 sizes + shipping for $25au... About $18.80us. Happy days! ???
