Smart-Resins Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 While in my local hobby shop today after glue, I saw that he had a new rack of the Testors one coat laquers. I had to laugh some when I read the instructions as it said use multiple thin coats, but it states one coat laquer on the front? Anyways they had a nice red and a nice yellow and even a very different green I might contemplate using on something.I usually use duplicolor paints as they are so easy to use with such good results.Wondering if any one has used these yet and how they are? I am currently unemployed, so couldnt get a can to try, but I am very interested in them.
Raul_Perez Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 Great stuff!! I won't use anything else. I think that they call it "one coat" becuase unlike their other line of spray lacquer paint that is a two part system, (base coat and a clear coat), this new stuff does not require a clearcoat over top of it. Good luck,
my80malibu Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 I used the Blue on my Merc, I thought the Flake used in it was a little large. I just sprayed the clear on it today, it looks great. I am very pleased with it and would recommend it, Its a good alternative to some of the other paints I have tried.
mademan Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 Its great stuff. So far ive used the Green and the White, both I really like.
Smart-Resins Posted March 2, 2008 Author Posted March 2, 2008 Does anyone have close up shots of thier bodies in wich they used this paint? I know those wheels look good?
chriscoffey Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 i have dabbled with it. It actually does go on in 1 coat, but i prefer a few light coats. This stuff does need clear, as both test subjects i tried came out semi-gloss at best.
chriscoffey Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 atleast my test subject needed clear coats. i might try another can to see if it needs clear.
Tonioseven Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 (edited) Inca Gold... Fiery Orange... Revving Red... Edited March 2, 2008 by Tonioseven
samdiego Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 (edited) I shot the Revell '66 El Camino with the Mythical Maroon. The first coats seemed to mildly attack the plastic so I loaded on a heavy third coat after about 15 minutes. The whole thing flowed out really nice. The flake might be a little large, but the marooniness is excellent. I've rubbed it out instead of clearcoating and am pretty stoked by the end result. I've been squirting paint a long time * and this was one of my best spray bomb moments ever. * Mom's front yard rose bush, silver, 1965. I just fogged some on the edges. I don't think she "got it" but I'm sayin' they were bitchin'. Boy, did I get it. Edited March 4, 2008 by samdiego
Smart-Resins Posted March 4, 2008 Author Posted March 4, 2008 Thank you all for the replies. Especially thank you for the photos. Looks like a very good thing for me to try out. I am liking the fiery orange color. I am thinking this and a white mixed paint job for a old school rod. Now this does bring me to another question. Can you spray other paints over it for two tone paint jobs?
MR BIGGS Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 TESTORS CAME TO ME LAST YEAR AND ASKED ME WHAT WOULD IT TAKE TO MAKE A THEIR PAINT BETTER AND I TOLD THEM TO MAKE THE PAINT'S IN LACQUER AND TO PUT THE COLOR OF PAINT ON THE CAP. SO THEY DID I HAVE TRIED THEM AND THEY WORK GREAT. TO BAD THEY WHERE ONLY TEST CAR'S IM NOT REALY A CAN MAN BUT THEY DO WORK REAL GOOD. THEY WILL BE COMING OUT SOON WITH TRANSPERENT CANDY COLOR'S NEXT. HERE WAS THE FIRST BATCH THEY SENT ME TO TRY OUT.
Smart-Resins Posted March 5, 2008 Author Posted March 5, 2008 Transparent candy colors. Oh Oh Oh Oh........ Yes!! Sorry, I think my screen just got wet. ...... Now that is good news. I hate paying the price for such a small can when I can pay the same price for a full size can od Dupli-color. But these new product lines just might be worht while for me ! Thanks for the heads up!
MR BIGGS Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 I think the metallic flakes are way out of scale!!!! Yes they are, but all that will be changing soon.
Raul_Perez Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 Yes they are, but all that will be changing soon. That's good news. That's why I haven't bought any of their new colors. I still use and really like their first generation of lacquer spray paint. Due to my time constraints, to me there's nothing better that being able to get a good paint job without having to deal with setting up and cleaning my airbrush. For that benefit, I'll pay the extra $$ for aerosol cans. Thanks Testors for finally offering great paint in a simple to use spray can!
Zoom Zoom Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 I'm glad they'll revisit the size of the metallic/pearl flakes. They are out of scale, also in the earlier line of factory-stock lacquer colors. I used "Artesian Turquoise" on a model and the metallic flakes were terribly out of scale. Nice to hear they're doing candy colors.

Nice to hear they're doing candy colors. Maybe it's all of the metallics in the Testor's lacquer line, because I've used the Hemi Orange and the metal flake in that was also too big. What's everyone's experiences with the other metallics in the line?
Mike Chernecki Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 What are the chances that Testor's releases all the lacquer colors in bottles for airbrush use, like the old model master enamels.
