BIGTRUCK Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 With all the great box art that has been posted, sometimes its odd to see wrong art work. I only had 2 but Im sure there are more. Hasagawa did a series of 1966 kits a Cadillac, Thunderbird, Buick, Pontiac and a Chevy. The Chevy is a 1965 on the box and contents. AMT 1937 Chevy modified Buyers Choice was released with 1936 Plymouth artwork then corrected the same year. Contents with 36 Plymouth on box is 37 Chevy. 1965 last year for 409.
Badluck 13 Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 I had a Revell one many years ago of the '69 Vette 427 where on the box was listed "429" I kept the box but somehow it got misplaced or lost in the move or more than likely trashed when my garage collapsed .
Art Anderson Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 The MPC/Ertl 1989 Chevrolet C-1500 Pickup Truck "Produced Under License From Ford Motor Company". Art
unclescott58 Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 (edited) The MPC/Ertl 1989 Chevrolet C-1500 Pickup Truck "Produced Under License From Ford Motor Company". Art Under license from Ford? That's great! I wonder if Ford had MPC sabotage the kits, and then leave notes in each kit encouraging the kid to buy only Fords? Scott Edited July 14, 2015 by unclescott58

chunkypeanutbutter Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 These boxes strangely show cars. However, what is inside is in fact garbage. Curious.
Badluck 13 Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 THATS IT!!!!!! Mr. Myers!!!!! you always come through!!!!
Greg Myers Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 More on topic , http://www.boxartden.com/gallery/index.php

Scott More than likely someone at Ertl (before they took on Racing Champions, and well before RC2 bought them out) just let their skimmer leak. Art
Tom Geiger Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 AMT released the '66 Hemi Under Glass in the '67 car's box. This was their issue following the Model King release of that kit. This was before the Round 2 involvement.
Longbox55 Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 1965 last year for 409. That is correct for Passenger cars. It was dropped mid year. However, the 409 and the 348 were still available in '66 in medium and heavy duty Chevrolet trucks.
1972coronet Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 This one irritated me to no end when it was new : Why ? Look at the upper-left of the box art : a stock two-wheel-drive with steelies and hubcaps is shown ... ... but none of that is available in the kit's contents !!!!!!!!!!! That was my first encounter with disappointment in advertising
AC Norton Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 (edited) ....last years Round2 AMT 66 mustang awb super boss funny car kit spells---fuel injectd on the box ends,,,, instead of the proper spelling of--fuel injected...the ace... Edited July 15, 2015 by AC Norton

That was my first encounter with disappointment in advertising MPC did that with the '76 Dodge pickup also...none of the long-bed annual kits '76 through '78 had two-wheel drive parts.
Snake45 Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 And I have no idea WHAT kit this box art model was built from, but I know for certain it wasn't built from the one in the box!
1972coronet Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 My nominee: If only they did a 1968 , 375hp 396 / TH-400 ; the only COPO Nova !
Snake45 Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 If only they did a 1968 , 375hp 396 / TH-400 ; the only COPO Nova ! Well, actually, there were '70 COPO Novas--the Yenko Deuces with the LT1s were COPO. But there were never any '69 427 COPO Novas.
BIGTRUCK Posted July 15, 2015 Author Posted July 15, 2015 And I have no idea WHAT kit this box art model was built from, but I know for certain it wasn't built from the one in the box! I never seen this kit, I have a Porsche 928 1/24th flat box with flag in the upper right.from 1988 , simple basic give it away takes up space kit.
THarrison351 Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 (edited) What about the AMT (MPC) 1976 Plymouth Duster er Dodge Dart. You can even read Dodge on the front of the display model. Edited July 15, 2015 by THarrison351
Atmobil Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 (edited) I had an AMT Chevy Nova (1976?) that was releases in 2004 or something like that. Showed a stock looking car on the box but was a streetlegal drag car in the box. EDIT: I belive it was this one: Sold it not very long after I bought it because I was dissapointed that I could not build a stock version. Edited July 15, 2015 by Atmobil
Atmobil Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 Here's an obscure one. No spell check then. A similar one is found on the Pyro 1:32 1952 Chevrolet
1972coronet Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 Well, actually, there were '70 COPO Novas--the Yenko Deuces with the LT1s were COPO. But there were never any '69 427 COPO Novas. I'm embarrassed to admit that I'd forgotten about the '70 Deuce at the time that I replied to your candidate . I guess that my thinking was , The 350 is an RPO offering ... but not the LT-1 !
