Nytrozilla Posted October 1, 2015 Author Posted October 1, 2015 (edited) Hopefully, this is the last sidetrack before I get back on the Nomad. I'm Jonesing hard. Funny how karma kicks in when you do the right thing. So, after the adventures in babysitting, I stopped at a local thrift store I like a lot. There was the most incredible buy I've made in my life. A china cabinet for only $60.00. It was too big to fit in my Journey, so I called on the mother of the kid I watched because she has a truck. She came to the store after work and between the 2 of us, we managed to wrestle it into the hobby room. That's karma payback. The intention was to put it in a display room with my built models and memorabilia. Too big. At least it looks good next to my kitchen cabinets. My finished models have been packed away for 3 months. Now they can breathe. The last thing I need to do is install a light under the build desk. If anyone wants info on one of the builds, pm me and I'll hook you up. They are all builds that have been on the forum. Edit: Pics were messed. I made fix. Edited October 15, 2015 by Nytrozilla
gasser59 Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 (edited) Awesome find brother. Looks great. Now get back to the bench. Playtime's over. Edited October 1, 2015 by gasser59
Nytrozilla Posted October 1, 2015 Author Posted October 1, 2015 I just finished playing Warcraft. NOW playtime's over. I sure coulda' used your help with that thing. The moving instructions specifically said, "May be moved by two guys with bad backs and a woman." I was one back short.
cobraman Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 Great looking cabinet. How much better would it look if you built a Cobra for it ? : )
bobthehobbyguy Posted October 11, 2015 Posted October 11, 2015 Ok Joe stop playing with the Millennium Falcon and get back to this. John's finishdd his coach and Chris is making great progress. Looking to see more of this bad boy.
Nytrozilla Posted October 12, 2015 Author Posted October 12, 2015 Danno, Ray and Bob, thanks for staying faithful. Well, to this build anyways. Aside from another rampaging bout of depression, here's what's been slowing me up. I wasn't happy with the body hinge point when I tried to add mounting holes for the front leaf springs. Suddenly the strength of the bracket came into question. I decided to go with individual frame mounted brackets. My first attempt was metal, but it was too thin and my supply of sheet metal is in drastic need of variety. I put one to good use as a template. Once I got the basic shape down, I bolted all four pieces together so that all of the parts would be the same during final sanding and drilling. If this works, I'll have the front springs done later today. Just feeling a little guilty about the absence. Sorry.
gasser59 Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 No apologies necessary brother. We need to talk about your sheet metal supply in the near future.
Art Laski Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 Nice work on this one, Joe! Glad to see you back at it.
Nytrozilla Posted October 13, 2015 Author Posted October 13, 2015 Bring it on Brad. What I have now is roof flashing. It's either .03 or .05. I'm thinking .03. Easily bent while being worked.Hi Buddy Bro Art. I'm glad to be back at it too. Feels REALLY good. As it should.I'm just checking in. I'm headed back to the hobby room now. Talk to y'all again real soon.
Codi Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 Happily, you've decided to fill the TROPHY cabinet instead of it just taking up space in your new home. More updates please!!! Cheers, tim
Nytrozilla Posted October 15, 2015 Author Posted October 15, 2015 Thanks everybody. Well, I did a stupid, then fixed it. My main problem was, I thought I was making brackets out of my thickest metal, but it was the thinnest. I forgot I had bought a cookie sheet and cut it up to add to my "metal file." Waaaay too thin for a bracket that size. Now I've made new ones from the roof flashing and they make me very happy. Tomorrow I'll drill out the leaf springs and get them assembled. After that, front and rear axles.
gasser59 Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 That looks more better. Hey Joe - PM me your email address so we can discuss sheet aluminum.
Nytrozilla Posted October 15, 2015 Author Posted October 15, 2015 Brad, I just tried and it said you can't receive messages. Call Chris and he can give you my email and cell phone. Tell him the authorisation password is BA NA NA.
gasser59 Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 OK try it again. I had no idea my PM folder was full and then it took some time how to delete some them to make more room.

10thumbs Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 LOL! Yeah, often the ladies aren't any fun anymore. So, up on the roof again eh? Joe, don't worry about the neighbors either. Christmas decoration will start soon, the kids will think Santa is up there on the roof.Good idea about the asphalt diorama.
Nytrozilla Posted October 18, 2015 Author Posted October 18, 2015 Let me start out with an apology for my inability to fix the pictures in the display case post. I know we're awaiting some long promised update, but this is getting old. Pictures are the main reason for posting builds and it should be the one thing that works right. Hopefully soon........... I got the leaf springs at 90% ready. Still need to do the leaf retainer clips, then figure out what I'm going to use for axles. I guess I've got some U-Bolts to make with some mounting plates too. I saw one that used wire for the U-Bolts, then the nuts self threaded themselves into the soft wire. See ya then. Enjoy the pics if they show up.......
10thumbs Posted October 18, 2015 Posted October 18, 2015 Hi Joe, your leaf spring setup looks great. Good stuff!
bobthehobbyguy Posted October 18, 2015 Posted October 18, 2015 Nice work on the springs . Looking forward to seeing more.
W-409 Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 Those springs look very good. They are not very easy to make, but once done they are done, they look very good. I like how it looks so far, keep it coming.
