cobraman Posted September 16, 2015 Posted September 16, 2015 Next one up on the workbench is the Monogram wagon. Will be built mostly with parts from the box. I did rob some whitewalls from the parts box as I don't really like the whitewall decals that come in the kit. I also opted to turn it more into a sedan delivery but using some sheet plastic to fill the rear side windows. I have not yet decided on any colors except blue for the engine.
slusher Posted September 17, 2015 Posted September 17, 2015 Ray, i have been enjoying these builds your rolling out.
cobraman Posted September 18, 2015 Author Posted September 18, 2015 Been working on this kit for a little while and it's pretty nice. The only complaint or comment I can make is about the interior decals. They are printed in green. The green limits the colors for the balance of the interior or even the exterior. Sure they can be masked I guess but it would have been nice to have an additional color on the decal sheet.
espo Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 Ray, I'm also working on a Del Rio. What I have done for the interior decals is to make a copy on a copy machine. Then I can use these as a template on some interior decals from Scale Motorsport. You can also just cut up some paper in the pattern you want for the seats and then mask and paint as you want not using the kit's pattern at all. I like the "delivery" idea, I might try that next build.
cobraman Posted September 18, 2015 Author Posted September 18, 2015 Thanks for the idea David. Looking forward to your build.
10thumbs Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 Ray, I just found out Del Rio was a Ford car. I thought the name was a Chevy car. Yours is looking good!
cobraman Posted September 18, 2015 Author Posted September 18, 2015 Thanks Michael. Here is an update. I wanted this one to be done in a satin black. Normally I prefer shiny finishes and am not that fond of "rat" style rods myself. But I did think this one would look good with a satin finish. I painted it with what was said to be a satin finish but it is waaaaaaay to shiny for the look I wanted. I will decal it and shoot it with some dullcote and see how that turns out.
Atmobil Posted September 19, 2015 Posted September 19, 2015 I think it looks very nice in shiny black aswell. I bit like a hearse maybe (I think that is a good thing)
DumpyDan Posted September 19, 2015 Posted September 19, 2015 Looks good to me, but what ever you do am betting it will look great. Keep the pics coming

Ray, here is something to remember, you and i both shop at HL and if you buy a can of Krylon short cuts flat black it is a perfect satin and i use it on interiors and chassis without anything else. Try it.
cobraman Posted September 19, 2015 Author Posted September 19, 2015 Thanks Carl. I have a can of that around here someplace.
bobthehobbyguy Posted September 19, 2015 Posted September 19, 2015 Ray looks good. If you are going to use decals then you need the glass to avoid silvering. You could should fkat clear after the decals to get the satin finish.
cobraman Posted September 22, 2015 Author Posted September 22, 2015 Here is where I am as of today. Body has been sprayed with some dullcote and is drying in the garage.
Al Hoffman Posted September 23, 2015 Posted September 23, 2015 Looks great up to now. Keep it up. I shot my '57 sedan with a satin black and didn't seal it. Learned my lesson there. It shows any greasy finger that touches it. From now on I'll seal it as quick as I can.
cobraman Posted September 23, 2015 Author Posted September 23, 2015 Here is body all painted up. Next step will be to do the BMF on the trim. : (

Testors Dull Cote will seal it in and give you a tough surface you can handle.
