W-409 Posted October 5, 2015 Posted October 5, 2015 This will be very interesting to follow as I've missed your builds. That engine looks very good already, super nice work scratchbuilding those parts. You make it look so easy but I know it definitely is not. I can't wait to see more.
comp1839 Posted October 5, 2015 Author Posted October 5, 2015 micheal, thanks, we'll see what happens in the future.ray, i kinda have the same problem.....hehe.chris, always love your phone calls and when that mill arrives.....i can help you over the phone, i'm sure!!bob, thanks much.tyrone, glad to be back, even if it only only to fill in the gaps on the 1:1.joe, that's it.........blame tim. it's ALL his fault. hehe.niko, always good to get your input. thanks.did a little machining tonight on the rear mounting plates. i'll finish tomorrow and gets some pics. thanks!
Codi Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 Dave & Joe, "fault"......man o' man.......I'm taking CREDIT. Cheers to you both. Tim
iBorg Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 Looks very sweet! Can you share what tools you have such as milling machine and lathe?Clayton Harris ran a narrow rear end dragster in the mid 70's. I don't remember how well it ran.
Mooneyzs Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 Dave... You know I will be keeping you posted on my Mill situation and when I get it. I enjoy talking with you too. I will have to give you buzz this weekend So we can catch up. Mike... Dave Has a really nice full size machine he does his machining on. He does some kick A$$ work for sure.
Nytrozilla Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 Kewl Tim, take credit for making me insane. I'll just have a hard time proving it's your fault. You know, with my history and such........
comp1839 Posted October 11, 2015 Author Posted October 11, 2015 (edited) tim, you're too much!!!!! hehe. mike i have afull size bridgeport and a small mill rite as far as knee mills go. i also have a grizzly (chinese) 36" lathe that's be perfect for 15 years. chris, you will be a master at machining. tim, has caught it like the flu and is just kicking butt with his equipment!!! joe, i think i'll wait for the verdict........hehe. had some time in between making headers for the big car. made the rear hubs and rotors. rear mounting plates and pinion support. Codi Posted October 11, 2015 Posted October 11, 2015 Dave, I know what your work table looks like so I didn't have to do the typical double take to know that your hubs are for the new model dragster you're making. BUT....I am certain there will be many others that won't be able to tell the difference. They're outstanding. I did visit your photobucket site again and recommend others do the same to see some really amazing things. The headers on your 1:1 37' Chevy are just sexy. More curves than any kardashian. I've asked before and bears repeating.....is there anything you CAN'T do? (I already know the answer) Cheers!
Red rocket 10 Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 Hey Dave long time no hear my friend , as always what a beautiful piece of work. Leonard
aurfalien Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 Wow and I mean wow! This is another one of those insane builds!
gasser59 Posted October 13, 2015 Posted October 13, 2015 (edited) Wow doesn't even cover it. Dave - you are the machining master and I'm really stoked you're back to the bench. You certainly haven't lost your touch. I sit here in the front row with my popcorn and note pad. BTW - your 1:1 is a real beauty. Have you built a scale model of that yet? Edited October 13, 2015 by gasser59

Codi Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 Wow....and I get the pleasure to actually see them this week. Oh yeah! I do have questions (of course) on how you do those rotors and hubs. Sure are purty and thanks for posting Dave. Cheers, Tim
Mooneyzs Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 Tim... Ok I am jealous... lol wish I could join both of youDave... You sure are doing an awesome job on this build. These parts are looking fantastic. You have me super impressed that's for sure. I will be waiting for your next update.
Nytrozilla Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 You two have a great time and try not to show off. Oh, wait, we're model builders. Never mind..........Dave, that looks as real as real can be, assembled or not.
GoatGuy Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 Dave, you never disappoint. Awesome work. I didn't have a chance to go to the Gilbertsville show. I assume you were there?
jeff f Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 Just incredible Dave . You have that vision to see whats not there yet . Not many have it .Can't wait to see those wheels . Jeff.
comp1839 Posted October 18, 2015 Author Posted October 18, 2015 (edited) one step forward...two back. pretty much describes my model building since last time. made some drawings of my wheels. since i had no real wheels to copy i did the best i could with photos. the first wheel i realized what i drew was off. so i revised the drawing and started #2. i managed to reverse a dimension and take the center out of the wheel. so. i finished anyway and i think with some new aluminum slugs i'll have what i want. not everything goes like clock work. holes , radius in the wheel and the scallops at the beadlock are wrong. geez, is there anything right? redid some dimensions and then took the center out. duh!!! BUT, i am happier with the wheel in general. i decided to make the cover on the top loader a carbon cover.....only to find out i made the rotors the wrong diameter. 10" instead of 11". will nothing go right this weekend? last but not least. tim thought i should take a shot of the carbs from the top to show the venturi booster detail. so.....here ya go. blame tim if you don't like them. hehe. tyrone Posted October 18, 2015 Posted October 18, 2015 looks Awesome to me bro..... mistakes or not....
Skypower Posted October 18, 2015 Posted October 18, 2015 Great work as allways your mistakes are so much better than most of our best work.
futurattraction Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 looks Awesome to me bro..... mistakes or not.... X3
Nytrozilla Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 Mistakes, smishtakes. It's all good from my point of view Dave. And Tim was right. You needed to show us those venturi's in the carb because we would have had a hard time believing him otherwise.Sheesh, even on a bad day you have great results. Now go bang your head against a wall to recalibrate your cerebral cortex and get back to it.Don't ya' just wanna kiss the folks that came up with carbon fiber?
