Full coverage of the NNL Nats #36

Use the "Roll" feature to easily review all images along with their associated captions.  Also included are images of new some new Moebius and AMT kit announcements revealed at the show.

As a taste of the coverage at the link directly above...Tom Woodruff revealed his in-process 1/25th scale diorama of knocked-down Ford Model T's enroute to a dealership...DSC 0236.

Thanks for looking, and thanks to all who participated along with the Cleveland Auto Modelers Society, for making this yet another successful NNL Nats event.   Cheers...TIM

Wow! Looks like another great show.

Unfortunitly I ended up working and missed being there, but thanks to Tim I almost feel like I was.

Neato. Do you know what hull was used for the Allison V-12 powered boat?

Lee...I do not know.  It may have been two AMT "Hull Raiser" kit hulls joined together.  Or the PT-109 as Stephen suggests.  In any case, the boat deck was derived from the old Revell Monogram Mustang Mach III showcar kit.  The engine, of course, was the AMT Allison V12.  The paint work by Frank LaQue on this model, as well as the overall workmanship, is outstanding.  I hope that comes through, at least a little bit, in the photos.

Thanks for asking...TIM

Thanks for the coverage of the show, Tim!  I had to leave a little early yesterday, can anyone tell me who won People's Choice?  TIA.

I talked to the builder when he was setting up, The hull was PT 109, deck was a mustang convertible and some kind of transmission for the propulsion unit.

Tim, thank you for the excellent photos and commentary!   This was my first Toledo NNL and it was a bit of a whirlwind, the hours just flew by and was over way too soon. I missed meeting and talking with a few people I had only met on these interwebs.

Truly an amazing event with great people. The work on the tables was top notch and very inspiring. the conversations were even more so.

Already looking forward to next year.

Excellent Eric.  One of the things I like best about the NNL Nats is that there always seem to be a few new first time attendees who "burst upon the scene there" with some truly outstanding model car projects.  Your work certainly fits that description and we thank you for making the effort to attend.  We too will be looking forward to seeing you next year, and by all means, please say "hello" if you see me there next fall

Cheers...TIM.

Great Photos and coverage Tim, Thanks for sharing.  I do miss that show and seeing you guys.

In the background of photo 47 is a shot of "Larry Read's Wartime Dodge".  Is this a kit on Moebius' future list?

Tom....no....it's the cover of the next issue of Model Cars Magazine.  I too did a double take when I looked at my photo...but it become clear that it is the magazine when I studied it closely.  Sorry for the false alarm!  TIM

Tim, I really enjoyed that you took the time to put a caption with the picture. I usually just pick and choose what pictures interest me but I looked at all your pictures of this event, it was the next best thing to being there in person. Thanks.   Ed

Thanks Ed.  This approach goes back to and mimics my years of covering NNL's and other events for the various magazines that I wrote for back then (primarily Street Rodder and Scale Auto Enthusiast magazine, but also sometimes in other titles such as Popular Cars, Custom Rodder, and a UK-based model car magazine that is no longer published).

The photography used in today's coverage is technically far superior to my preferred "table shots" format, but I do think that a sense of loss occurs as those who were not able to attend the event in person do not get a sense of the event atmosphere from this type of somewhat sterile "studio" photography. (There's a reason 1.1 scale magazines use "event shot" instead of "studio shots" for their automotive event coverage....).

I also prefer more in-depth captions that explain how a model was built, or that relate the model or builder to other events in the hobby, or explain why this particular model stood out from the hundreds other fine models at an event, as opposed to today's accepted approach of short captions that often focus primarily on the builder's motivation.

Plus, I think that the builders whose work is seen online really deserve credit by having their names associated with their models.

So this on-line posting of NNL Nats events with detailed captions crediting the builder is my own way of addressing how I would personally prefer to see model event coverage handled, both on line and in the magazines that cover our hobby.  Or maybe I'm just stuck in the past....?

Thanks again for your comment.  Cheers...TIM
