Long a grail of mine. I finally saved up enough lunch money to get one unbuilt. Was a little disappointed that the roof was slightly warped but not a show stopper, it will straighten out with careful gluing in of the glass. Here's what's in the box for anyone interested.

Anyone know why the five wheels?

My understanding is the extra wheel was for when they did the promos at the factory. In case one was dropped, the assembler had an extra handy instead of having to go get one elsewhere and holding up production.

The "Motor City" kits were unassembled promos, that's why no engine or extra parts.

Interesting. Never would have thought it to be something like that. Thanks!

I wonder why they chose to mold 5 hubcaps on that chrome tree!

Don't know... I just checked the police car tree and there are four dog dish caps.

I have the LTD set aside since it was the first one in a long line of LTDs and Crown Vics owned by my grandfather!  Starting in 1970, every few years he'd buy a new gold one.

The '70 Torino Was done as a Motor City Stocker promo and as a regular kit using some of the same parts.

The "70 Chevelle had 2 different body chassis and chrome and both were separate as Motor City Stocker and what remains to be the current Jack Reacher kit.

The '70 Buick was a modified '69 with only promo parts.

The '70 LTD shares nothing with the '69 kit and is the basis for the '70 Galaxie police car.

The '70 TBird became a '71 kit. Not sure how accurate it is as a '71.

Thanks Fordrodncustom. I appreciate you sharing this model. I have a couple of the police versions but I am very happy to get a close up look at this version. I love it. Thank you for sharing this with us.  Jeff

Thanks for posting this!  You aren't going to do anything crazy like sand off the emblems, are you?  If you are, I have a body and hood from the police kit that I could trade you!

Literally tonight I just finished building a '70 LTD hardtop, using Modlehaus parts and AMT's recent '70 Ford Police Car kit. I had the original kit back in 1970 and wanted another one. Since AMT did only minor changes when they converted their original '70 LTD to the Police Car. It was very easy to convert back. All you need are the correct hood, front bumper and grille, a rear bumper with the correct grille texture between the taillights, correct wheel covers, and whitewall tires. All of which Holthaus sells. Then you just cut out the sedan style window frames. The interior was not changed between the LTD and Police Car version. So nothing is needed there. And bingo. You've got a '70 Ford LTD four-door hardtop.

Thanks for sharing this one. I have one that I am working on. I started to add the stainless moldings on the fender and door edges, and I plan to correct the roof pillars, as they are awfully flimsy, as well as the side window profile, and adding a vinyl roof cover, as I would suspect that 85-90% of them had when they were new. Mine will be Triple Black. I may stick an engine and under-hood detailing under the hood.

Yup...they all had vinyl tops as I remember them. I added the moldings to mine as well.  The roof on mine was crushed in exactly the same way as Ron's ...didn't stop the original builder from slapping it together (with the window glass in backwards) and slapping a coat of paint on it though.  At least when they're this ugly they're really cheap.

1970 LTDs came with a steel roof unless an optional vinyl roof was ordered. I'm not 100% sure, but I think the LTD Broughams may have come with the vinyl roof as standard equipment. AMT's kit interior represents the non Brougham version. So the car can be correctly built without a vinyl roof.

Real hard to see but it looks to me that the Hardtop and post sedan have two different roof lines, with the sedan having more of a curve in it above the side windows. That's why to me the Interceptor kit's roof looks too flat.

Yes. I too think the Police Car kit's roof never looked quite right. I'm pretty sure the four-door hardtops and the four-door sedans on the real cars were slightly different. And I know that all AMT did back in the day to convert their LTD hardtop kit, body wise, into a Galaxie sedan was add door window frames. They did not mess with the roof on the kit beyond that. They didn't even change the glass to add the vent window glass. Only the frames. So yes, I've always thought the roof didn't look right in the Interceptor Police version. Still I was happy that they release a fairly accurate police car kit at the time. Even though it was a Galiaxie 500 with an LTD interior and no vent glass. When it really should have been a Custom or Custom 500 to be a true police car. But, back then we were happy to get something as close to the real thing as AMT was offering us.
