Ramfins59 Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 (edited) I've started working on the new Galaxie '47 Chevy Coupe kit. I want to make a Custom / Rod along the lines of this... My planned color is Duplicolor Inferno Red Metallic. I'm not sure if I'll use Caddy Sombrero hubcaps, or single bar flipper caps, on wide whites of course. It will also have ribbed bumpers. So far I removed the drip rails, smoothed the hood, frenched head and taillights, installed resin teardrop skirts, and filled in the rear side windows with Bondo. When I sanded off the drip rails I was a bit too aggressive with the sanding stick and obliterated the upper door lines, causing me to have to recut / rescribe them. It was a pain in the butt and very tedious but I managed OK. I got smarter when I filled in the rear side windows and masked off the door post lines so I wouldn't ruin them too. Here's what it looks like so far with a couple of coats of primer/sealer. Now I'm working on the kit's engine...... painting parts and drilling holes... More progress to come as it happens. Thanks for looking in on this, and any and all comments are welcomed. Edited November 4, 2015 by Ramfins59
Foxer Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 Is the grill on the 1:1 similar to one in the kit?
Ramfins59 Posted November 4, 2015 Author Posted November 4, 2015 Thank you all very much guys.Mike, yes one of the grilles in the kit is exactly the same as the one on the 1:1 car.
ChrisBcritter Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 (edited) Is the grill on the 1:1 similar to one in the kit? You had to push that button of mine, didn't you? ... Edited November 5, 2015 by ChrisBcritter
kevjoh Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 Maybe the grill is not "quite right" but it's the best you're going to get. I'm extremely pleased to finally have the coupe kit, it's been a long wait.

Jairus Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 Those poor Korean's did the best they could having never seen a real one. Could be a lot worse!
misterNNL Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 The closed off rear side window reminds me of a Westergard custom treatment I saw somewhere.
Ramfins59 Posted November 13, 2015 Author Posted November 13, 2015 Thanks again guys. I'm still working on the engine. I haven't been putting in as much time on this as I should have been doing. I'll have to "knuckle down" a bit more on it. My original plan was to sort of replicate one of the cars customized by Barris in the movie High School Confidential...... Maybe I'll do that to another kit.
