restoman Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 I started this 10 or 12 years ago. Originally it was painted Bahama Yellow (Butterscotch) but it got damaged somehow and I didn't have any paint left over, so Charcoal it was! I was looking for something lighter, like Chrysler A4 Charcoal... this was the closest on the Duplicolor rack. I've changed the headlight area and bezels to make them look a little more realistic and tunneled out the rear license holder instead of the chunky thing the kit came with. Since this kit has a flat hood, I took the "Cuda" script off the tail panel. Still undecided on using the factory side stripes or not. Going for a bit of a sleeper look: a flat hood 360 4bbl Barracuda, instead of the more popular "Cuda. I sprayed some five spoke road wheels with Alclad to use instead of the rally wheels it came with, and primed the chassis with grey and tried to duplicate the factory overspray patterns. Hard to notice with this colour, but it's there. Comments always welcome.
louie Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 Now this I really, really like. I have seen a lot of these done up really nice. Taking a Snap Kit and tuning it into gold. I have a few of these just for the body. I've got big plans for em ( someday ) yep always someday. So until then I'm going to watch you build your ' s. Keep up the good work and Thank you. Jeff
dragcarz Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 Looks great Mike. I never paid much attention to this kit, probably because it's a snap kit, I wonder how the Revell Cuda kit would fit under this body? Hmmm
louie Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 Looks great Mike. I never paid much attention to this kit, probably because it's a snap kit, I wonder how the Revell Cuda kit would fit under this body? Hmmmfrom what I've seen and heard it works really good with just a little work. That's been on my mind too. Thanks. Jeff
restoman Posted November 19, 2015 Author Posted November 19, 2015 The body in this kit seems to be well proportioned, so it would probably look killer on a chassis with some detail.
MGL Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 Looks like a great start, I like what your doing with the headlights. I may have to like for one of these for myself.
426-Hemi Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 LOVE IT!!!!! I myself, would LOVE to find one of these, and hack that hood right open and dump a B 400 block under the hood (big block Mopar made/offered starting in '72) and then keeping it a somewhat "sleeper" too.........I got to say the headlight work you did was MUCH better then what it shows to be on the box! BUT that too, I'd have to open the engine compartment on the frame, OR fit it to another frame. BUT I know something MORE would happen to it.NIICE job so far!
Tom Geiger Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 This curbside was simplified from earlier versions which were a glue kit. I believe this started out as the 1973 - 4 annual kit. As a former owner of a 1973 Barracuda I can say that overall the body is well proportioned and represents the car. The only thing I don't like about it is that the door handles are way too large. My car had a body side molding that ran from front to back, and when I tried to duplicate it on this body, I ran smack into that handle!I haven't tried the body on the new Revell 'cuda chassis, but I plan on doing so... and using that kit's door handles too!
mod3l Lover Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 (edited) I built one a couple years ago, I had a lot of fun doing this kit. I had bought it to use just the body and stick a chassis from a revell 71 Cuda, but never did do that! David S. Edited December 9, 2015 by mod3l Lover
disabled modeler Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 Nice...! I have a 74 Cuda promo in red. Some people shy away from snaps and curbside kits...not me I like most of them they build into great models too.
charlie8575 Posted November 21, 2015 Posted November 21, 2015 Nice color pick. Try the medium blue interior. Testors Gloss Bright Blue is in the ballpark. Semi-gloos/Dullcote as needed for best results. Charlie Larkin
Dominik Posted November 21, 2015 Posted November 21, 2015 looking forward, what your making with that Cuda. Didn't know, that there are Snapkits from it?
disabled modeler Posted November 21, 2015 Posted November 21, 2015 looking forward, what your making with that Cuda. Didn't know, that there are Snapkits from it?Years back maybe 1994? AMT had a series of kits called(snapfast plus)...good kits they were curbside like a promo and molded in colors I tried some of them and love them. They build into very nice models...still like them love to have some more myself they had the Cuda,Fairlane,pickups,53? Corvette, and some others Dominik...there worth having.
tim boyd Posted November 22, 2015 Posted November 22, 2015 The new-for-'74 Mopar code E58 360 high-performance small block in the '74 'cuda was a super-sleeper....and yes, reportedly the E58 engine was also available in the non-'cuda base Barracuda model (which omits the dual scoop hood, as reflected on the promo-style body in this kit). In some ways I preferred the non-cuda version back then, as I was never a fan of the "gee how big can we make a [tasteless] flat black tape stripe across the side of the car" 'cuda graphics during the '71-'74 model years. I showed a buildup of the '74 E58 in the other model magazine in a summer 2014 article on Mopar Muscle V8's. I used the excellent 360 four barrel in the AMT-Ertl '71 Duster 340 kit (the 340 and E58 360 appeared essentially identical on the outside). The correct engine block color is Chrysler Engine Blue. Air Cleaners were painted in both Orange and Gloss Black, with Orange being the more prevalent color (my own factory-ordered E58 installed in a '74 Road Runner, built in November 1973 at the Windsor plant, had the less-seen Gloss Black air cleaner, so that is the way built my scale E58 engine). This MPC body, with the Revell '70 'cuda chassis/suspension, and the Duster-based E58 engine conversion, would be a simply killer model car project. But Mike, however you decide to proceed, good luck with the build and i will be watching your progress along with many others here! Cheers...TIM ,
Dominik Posted November 22, 2015 Posted November 22, 2015 thanks Mark for the info! i must keep my eyes open, while i surfing for "new" kits. i have the Cuda from Revell. But it is 1/24 and for me off scale - vis-a-vis 1/25. I know about little inches...but some models looking so big near the 1/25er...my own view.

I agree with you Mike...I fell in love with these things as a kid and now restore and collect them...neat little time pieces. Cant figure out which I like better...kits or promos and promo like stuff...
louie Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 I'm very happy to see this one again. Looks great. The color looks excellent on this car. Keep up the good work and thank you for sharing. Jeff
Snake45 Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 I like your headlight mod ideas, this kit's biggest weakness. Can't wait to see what it looks like finished! Model on!
