Oh.  My, my, my.  One hit wonders?

Really.

None EVER better than 'Gayle McCormick and A Group Called Smith.'

"Baby, It's You."

Whoa!  OMG!

Crank it up and give a closed-eyes listen to this.

Then open eyes and play it again.  Visually devour the fabulous Ms. McCormick.  Who needs Viagra?

She was from St. Louis.  My luck, Agent G dated her.          There goes a 46 year fantasy, right down the BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH tubes.

Another:   The Jerry Hahn Brotherhood's "Captain Bobby Stout."  (I can't find it on YouTube . . . it used to be there, but apparently has been removed.)

Some local guys from my Wichita Top40 DJ days;  Lane Tietgen, Mike Finnigan, Jerry Hahn, and company.  Captain Bobby Stout was big regionally, then Mannfred Mann covered it and made it big internationally.

Here's Mannfred Mann's version (JHB did it better):

FYI - I knew Bobby Stout.  Real person.

One hit wonders? Was that first one you posted Harry, or the Hazel O Conner song above ever hits? I've heard the rest of them and would agree. But, those two I just referred to?

I'm in the UK, so I don't know much about US "One Hit Wonders", which rarely cross the pond (maybe "Camouflage" by Stan Ridgway... it made the top 5 over here). "Will You" was Top 10 here, and came from an album which spent over 6 months in the Top 100 and went double platinum. i'm surprised it never surfaced in the US -- you'd have thought the slightly alt take on big power power ballad would have had a natural home on college radio and even MOR stations...

bestest,

M.

For my money, French/Canadian/Belgian Lara Fabian is still the best female singer on earth, but "I Will Love Again" was her #1 hit (58 weeks on Billboard charts) from her only English album, issued in the US in 1999. Only one other song on the album charted here, peaking at #28, and she hasn't been on US charts since. This was written with the same team that did Cher's "Believe." She pulled out of US distribution but has become a superstar around the world in many languages. She writes most of her songs and is a terrific poet.

Sugar Loaf , Don't call us, we'll call you...

That was their second hit. Their first was Green Eyed Lady, a couple years before.

Another huge hit from back in the day, one and done. Can we get more cowbell?

Definitely not! Their first two albums went gold, and at least five or six of their songs were on the radio in my area. I'm pretty sure I still have their first three albums on vinyl somewhere.

"Mississippi Queen" was the only Mountain song I ever heard on the radio back i the day. And I live in a major market!

Here's some favorites.

The Call -Let the Day Begin. I think was used in a couple elections.

Faith No More - Epic

Sweet - Ballroom Blitz. It's been covered a dozen times at least.

[506] 867 5309 is the current phone # of the used car department of the Ford dealer in Moncton NB.

I couldn't believe it the first time I heard it, had to hear it a couple more times until I accepted that I heard it right.

The Wallflowers were not one-hit wonders... they had multiple hits. One Headlight, Three Marlenas, Sixth Avenue Heartache, The Difference... just to name a few. All of them got heavy airplay here.

I believe you Harry, I pulled that one off a website for one hit wonders. It's still a favorite though.

EDIT: yep I remember 6th Avenue Heartache. I'll remove the Wallflowers if I can figure out how.
