That's funny...I always thought the animal on the Impala badge was an IMPALA!!!

Yeah, I know, but it depends on who you ask I guess.

WoW, some of those answers went a bit wild!

Well I now know what a DONK is, they are not my style eitherr, fact is I had not actually seen any of those extreem examples so thanks for showing.

I now take it, it is a high rider as to a lowrider and also anything with those huge wheels.

The Donk refrence to the Impala/donkey that Harry mentions seems similar to something in the UK. We have a soccer team named Tottenham Hotspur who's badge is a fighting cock with spurs attatched standing on a soccer ball. Some people, usually opposing supporters refer to this as a chicken in a derogatory way.

Thanks for the posts and links, John

Take a breath and please re-read my post. I acknowledged that I don't like them but I admire the workmanship. I also cited that I'd read the origin of the name elsewhere. And my reference, though exaggerated, to the wheels being out of scale to the car is not all that inaccurate, now is it?

Instead of jumping up and down and throwing a rammy, please give us your explanation of what a donk is and the origin of the name. I don't presume to know it all, and I sure DON'T know ###### about them. Maybe that's where you can step in and help me understand it a bit better.

I obviously rubbed your fur the wrong way with my post, and apologize.

Can you rub my fur the right way??????

sorry, it's late, I'm tired, only worked 114.7 hours this week......

 OK, now that I know what they are,HOW do they get them up there so high? I mean dont it play hell with the drivetrain? do they use blocks to modify the rear suspension? How about the front? We got a lo-rider shop down road from me so Ive seen plenty of those but we dont have any thing that comes close to those donk things .(exept a few trucks, and the cops will mess with them if theyre too high!)

What's goin' on...

Couple questions about these things. If I remember right back in tech school (diesel/trucks) if the pitch of the drive line between the U-Joints was more than 3-5 degrees it would lead to premature U-joint failure. But it has been close to 18 years since I was in college and my MCM user name let's ya'll know how many drivelines I've worked on lately.

Looking at that yellow taxi's driveshaft I can't see how the driveline lasts? Back in the day I've had friends who build 4x4's and had U-joints bust because of the extream pitch angles (we were in high school back then couldn't afford to do it right). I understand raising up a 4x4 truck for ground/water/mud clearance purposes being "OFF ROAD" So what's the purpose of doing this to a car?

Like them or hate them, you probably won't be seeing Donks, bubbles, boxes or those jacked up monster trucks much longer except in plastic.

I took an auto extrication class last November (again, they keep changing the way they build cars, which changes how we rip them apart) and according to the instructor getting rid of these altered ride height vehicles is a high priority for the Department of Transportation and many State police agencies. They cause damage and injuries way out of proportion to their size and speed, normal cars are not built to be hit by a car 3 feet off the ground. His belief is they will not be street legal in most states within the next 3-5 years. At the least they will probably be required to have a stock height bumper which will make them look even stranger, almost Picaso like.

So enjoy them or hate them while you can, they might become an endangered species.

I can't believe they're street legal at all! What about laws regarding headlight to ground distance, bumper to ground distance, etc. How are these things street legal NOW???

im not really the one you should be apologizing to but a lot of people at the ECR forum took it as a slap to the face

if thats the case theyll go after lifted trucks of any height and outlaw bull bars

I have yet to figure out how people get in and out of these things.

tried it not that hard at all grab the wheel and up you go most cars have grab handles by the door hinge

One more CPMCC banquet like the last one, and I could make a Donk ride that low! On one side at least...

Dan, I don't even need airbags then! :o

This particular car is done how I assume most are

HPIM0389.jpg

He has managed to lift the rear and front suspension some. Front control arms are scary looking now. Hope the dude that cut em up and welded em is good if ya know what I mean. Then to lift it even higher he has the frame seperated from the body with 4 inch spacers. The cars frame is actually a bit lower than that white panel he added under the car. As for some of yalls assumptions of drivablity. Its true these things drive bad. I have driven that car in the TLE I work in. He used to bring it in for oil changes ( we think he quit cause we laughed our butts off the last time it came in lol ). This thing has the worse turning radius I have seen I bet a school bus could bust a turn faster and easier. Its ride was rough too and this was at the mighty 10 MPH I was doing in our parking lot lol I was scared to go any faster. almost didn't get it in the parking spot lol.

Couple other shots I took of it when I saw it on my way home one day actually haven't seen that thing in a while

Which brings me back to my question:

WHY???

Got me. That Monte was actually a nice car the first time I seen it. then that blue junk on the side appeared. Looks like they tried to mask it but failed overspray and orange peel galore. and If I remember right the interior got messed up, which I assume came from them lifting the body off the frame

and this is coming from someone with the screen name DUB

You did read my signature, right?

I ask because I went out of my way to state that is the ONLY meaning that does not apply to my user name.
